Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
kkx replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Been a Macross fan over the years and had been building model kits. But have not been into toys. The Yamato lines seem attractive but the price kept me away all these time. Then I found out about the DX-1J. Was really late so no luck with any PO. At the end when the review starts to coming in, I really wanted one. It looks so nice. So end up getting one from Mandrake. It arrived last week and it is fantastic. Since then I have these on the way: HMR max, 35th-Aniversary VF-1J I have also just finishing a deal for Max+Millia super 1/60 Arcadia with a nice member here. The flood gate seems to have been opened. Money and space will be a big concern. I am now officially a Macross toy collector. Getting into toys is mainly due to me getting zero time to build model kit for the past decade. I need to get my Macross fix somewhere and the toy is one of the obvious routes. Can't wait for all of my orders to arrive. -
I agree that the Hasegawa 1/72 are very good kits and value for money. Does not harm to start with the Wave 1/100 kit (I have only built the VF-1A, and had a lot of fun producing result that I like), even though if you go slow, jumping directly to the Hasegawa kit is not impossible. You can always get support and advise from the good people here (or find how to instruction and video from the web). One extra benefit if you choose to start with the Wave kit, you will be impressed with the jump in quality and potential result offered by the Hasegawa kits. That will provide additional motivation to work through the challenges they offer. Whatever you choose, having fun is the key. Don't worry about building a perfect project from the get-go.

Second that. Anytime this year will be great, but earlier is better. Been waiting for that since forever. It is one of the first/second Arii models that I build when I was a kid.
-
@jenius Nice collection. I always enjoy your review video on YT. BTW, which one of these is your favorite?
-
Haha, good trick. Safer and avoid a lot of hard work. That is what I am thinking too. I build models and that seam line just scream at me to sand it down and buff up again. Have to resist like seti88, but I know eventually I will break down and do it.
-
Is anyone bothered by the prominent mold line on the canopy?
-
Thank you for the photos, this is very useful.
-
Thanks for sharing and clarifying. It is weird that the part that you sand away will cause it to not attach to the original yamato wing. Seems like the horizontal tab should be the one holding it in place rather than the vertical face. Anyway, I don't have the original yamato missile anyway, so I am more interested in 3d printing a pylon that will take Hasegawa's 1/48 missile set and attach them to the DX. Can I trouble you with more photo from a few more angle so that I can use that to design my fusion 360 model? Thanks.

Finally, it is here. This is my first Valk and I have never transformed one before, so a bit nervous about it. It doesn't help that the tab and joints seem to be very stiff. I know it will get better once I start (more exp and joints will start to loosen up a bit), but still hesitant to start. Will watch example video a few more time just to be sure I am doing every step correctly.

I am super curious about how the inside looks like. It will be nice if you have some photo to share once you get it open. Thanks.

Amazon is showing new availability for some seller. Saying new release in Jan 26th. More stock (many no the version with the extra base) coming, maybe.
-
My resin kits. Have not build any resin kit before, not sure which one will be the first. Will continue with plastic injection kit until I have more experience to tackle one of these. I also have the 1/72 monster and UD VF-1j 1/48 G-system recast. Those two are my Mount Everest.

Mine was charged a day after my order confirmation. Placed order on 31st Dec, and see the item on my online credit card statement on the 1st.
-
I have more than 5 of these hanging around in my stash. Will get round to build some of them for fun. Post some progress photo, if you have any. Will be a nice encouragement for me.

I have been messing with Fusion 360 this week and manage to build a model for a missing missile pod for my Bandai RG banshee. Maybe I can build a model for the pylon if someone shares some detailed picture of Yamato's missile pylon, that will allow mounting the Hasegawa missile on this. From the picture I can find, it looks reasonable for a 3D print.

Bandai does choose a bad time for this release. Most shops will be affected by staff going on holiday. Maybe this is not as prominent in Japan hence Bandai's choice of timing.
-
4900 yen for two is not a bad price for DHL. Hope you will get yours soon. Amazon estimated early next week for mine. Can't wait.
-
I see. Missed the PO and got mine for $243 shipped from Amazon. Can't wait to get mine.
-
Under USD180 shipped? That is a great price. Where did you PO?
-
Good idea. I have some small rare earth magnet hanging around. Worth a try. Will buy a set of those Hasegawa weapons.
-
A quick question for those that have this at hand, do you think the Hasegawa 1/48 missile set will work with some minor mod? From the photos that I can find of the missile set, it seems to be possible to add a small peg of the right size to the pylon.
-
Ok, thanks. Same here, my new year gift to myself. My first and only Macross toy.
-
Is this the best price to get this now? Out of interest, how much does it cost for it to be shipped to US for those that manage to get the PO on HLJ or other site?
-
was on notice list on Hobby Search, didn't see the email for 5 hours, not it is gone. Will I get notice again or I need to join the list again? Been searching high and low for a decent price chance to buy one.

Do you mind sharing where I can get still order one with "good price"? Edit: never mind, just found "From Japan".
