The computer and electronics super geek thread
Chewie replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's actually one of the ones I was talking about, shiroikaze. BeyondTheGrave, the biggest issue you're going to run into if you try to buy your own is finding that kind modem/gateway that's wireless N and DOCSIS 3 compliant. Those things are still in the stoneage when it comes to both hardware and firmware. -

You can get a good DSL/Cable modem for $70-$100. $130-$170 if you want a router built in. Be wary of getting a replacement though, I've gotten a lot of stories from customers recently about their units not being new in box but something, similar to what you said, the install guy had to dig around for or like mine: My Comcast installer had to leave to go back to the main office when I ordered a new HD DVR receiver and a new modem that supported DOCSIS 3. He spent the better part of an hour trying to get the receiver to talk to the office because they were all locked or broken. The modem he brought back with him was tore up. It looked like someone ran it through a dryer with a bunch of rocks and nails. They wanted to charge me $150 for a "brand new" modem if I didn't like the one they gave me. I ended up buying one from work and telling them to stuff it. -

I loved it and plan on seeing it like 30 more times over the weekend. It took the second one out and put a bullet in the back of its head. -

If it were in my area, I'd say word of mouth. We get a lot of people who come to us to fix what the local Staples' have done to their computers. Being in a smaller community where everything is busy body or word of mouth, it's not hard to lose a customer base for things like that. Geek Squad is by no means the best on the block in a lot of areas, but ours is pretty top notch. -
Bear with me on this, it's been a long time since I(think I) read it, but I'm pretty sure it's stated somewhere that hyperspace travel was the last technological jump in the Star Wars universe. Once they got that, they were done as far as anymore advancements. As far as I can tell from any of the post OT EU is they just got things to be smaller, not "better." Jwasko hit it on the head with Jedi and Sith being more powerful. With as many times as they've all but wiped each other out, something has to be lost in translation. Look at he differences in power/skill between Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, Palapatine and Yoda compared to Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade, Corran Horn, the twins and even Anakin Solo. I also seem to recall even the 7 forms being lost for until Luke discovered them on some Holocron somewhere 20 some odd years ABY.

Though, with what I've read on it, in the Halo universe time travel wouldn't be a stretch at all. All of that said, Halo 3s ending was left gaping by Bungie. There's no reason another installment couldn't/shouldn't have come about.

It wouldn't be a spoiler at all. It's not that type of game.

While I don't doubt the validity of any of that, it seems too bleh even for Bay standards. -
Terminator 5/Terminator: Genisys, opening July 1, 2015
Chewie replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was going to say the same thing. None of the movies ever had Skynet existing as anything more than a computer that came online and nuked most of humanity. That was the one thing 3 did right. Skynet came online and did it's thing. The only thing that really changed from the original is that Skynet basically forced humans to turn it on with a virus brought back with the TX. I don't recall anyone in the original movie mistrusting machines except for those informed about what was going to happen. Reese and eventually Sarah. Personally, I attribute the look and feel of T1 to the time in which it was made. It was the 80s and it looked like a gritty 80s film. Regardless of what the content was.- 508 replies

After watching a few of the other trailers, I see a lot of inconsistencies with the animation and the CG, but the above trailer is a lot better than the others and it doesn't look like a flash animation at all. It looks like sloppily integrated CG in an animated show, much like Transformers Cybertron was. There were plenty of parts of Frontier and Aquarion that didn't mesh well either.
-
Eh. When you integrate CG into hand drawn animation it always comes off looking like this does. Transformers, Aquarion, Frontier, this. It doesn't flow exactly right. The level of cleanliness for the animation between them may be a lot different, but it's the same thing.
-
Going to be the major minority here but that gave me goosebumps in waves. Also, and yeah tear me apart for it, while the overall background/character animation is very kiddy, the CG looked and moved JUST like Frontier.

I fully agree, but the fact that I saw flaws doesn't cause me to think that the rest of the free thinking world hated it. Nor does it cause me to start posting about how those who hated it were some kind of majority. They aren't and won't be in the future. Timing wise, it's perfectly set this summer after X-Men, Green Lantern, Cars 2 and if you really stretched it, Super 8. It's also 2 weeks before Harry Potter. It's going to absorb money like a sponge. -

Who? It didn't make almost a billion dollars in a single night or even in a short enough time span that could account for people having seen it by mistake before having heard it sucked or was terrible. For every original TF fan out there who pisses themselves every time something goes outside of canon, there are <pick a number> people who couldn't care less but enjoyed it. "The 30 or so of us who actually contribute to the TF threads hated it, <insert random reviewer or site that> hated it, that MUST mean the rest of the world did too!" Am I missing something? -
This was pretty cool. Repost from Gizmodo. At 1:38, is that an Airbus? A320?
-
I saw the huge (leader class?) Sentinel Prime at WalMart last night. Would have picked it up if not for it being $50. They had a bunch of the smaller carded figures too. Was a TON of Bumblebees and Starscreams. One thing I noticed that WalMart around here has never really been good at, all of the non DotM figures were gone. Every toy they had related to TF was that or Star Wars. I wonder if they finally got/did a proper pull order?

I've never had 7 bug me about UAC or defender. You can "change how windows notifies me" in the settings without deleting any registry values. Edit: Are you running any kind of anti-virus? Action Center stops bugging you if you are because it knows there's something taking the place of Defender.
