Unless there is some sort of special key set on the unit like on some of the Asus or Toshiba models for quick boot or power boost, no. A clean install will work just fine. Otherwise, you need to find those drivers from the manufacturer and reinstall them later anyway. -
Star Trek Into Darkness, in theaters May 17, 2013

I'm not defending anything either, I'm just pointing out sources and things I've read here or there. I do agree that a bunch of stuff that would have made the movie a little easier to swallow for the hard core fan shouldn't have been on the special features of the bluray or a comic only a "handful" of people who saw the movie would read. That being said, even as a pretty big fan I enjoyed the movie because it put a fresh face on Star Trek and gave it the kick start it needed. I personally chalk the Enterprise looking different up to reboot magic and it doesn't bother me at all. Chiming in on the comment about Titanic and Avatar too. You have to realize that Titanic wasn't about a ships tragic end because stupidity, arrogance and the loss of life associated with that. It was a chick flick with Leonardo Decaprio that every (and I say this with as much love as I can muster for my own girlfriend) sniveling, cheese loving, love story absorbing girly girl made their man take them to see. It's that simple. Twilight isn't as stupidly popular as it is because it's a phenomenal story. Avatar, yes, was a rehash of 35 other stories and was predictable and really, as far as the story was concerned, nothing new. However, it was visually striking, beautiful and as movies goes another step in the right direction with the technologies used to make them. I recall an interview with James Cameron stating that the story wasn't his focus anyway. I didn't watch that movie up to a 10th time for the story. I watched it because it's really great to look at. I have a lot of other friends who have done the same thing. Hell, I saw it theaters 4 times. That said, it too was a love story and even as thinly veiled as it was, you have to accept that it was another movie that had boyfriends being dragged along kicking and screaming to see, possibly more than once. Not to mention kids. I never think it's as cut and dry as "America" when it comes to movies that make a billion dollars and Hollywood thus thinking they can pull one over on us time and time again, it's just tweens, and the silly boys who pay for them.- 1020 replies

According to Memory Alpha there was a bunch of information on the bluray about those upgrades. One of the writers says that the reason the technology of the Federation is better is because of reversed engineered scans of the Narada taken from the Kelvin. "The scans the Kelvin took of the Narada's 24th century technology (that went with the survivors on the shuttles) were used by 23rd century Starfleet to reverse engineer the more "advanced" technology seen in the alternate timeline, according to a post by Star Trek screenwriter Roberto Orci on Ain't It Cool News. Director J.J. Abrams also said in an interview with MTV that readings from the Narada "inspired ideas and technology that wouldn't have advanced otherwise." 'In the Star Trek prequel comic book miniseries Star Trek: Countdown, the Narada's advanced weaponry and appearance are explained as being the result of the ship being retrofitted with salvaged and reverse-engineered Borg technology. The Tal Shiar in the 24th century had been experimenting with Borg technology, and Nero's ship was the experimental vessel used. The Borg nanoprobes allowed the ship to grow and repair itself, and also take on a much larger and more menacing appearance. This information also appeared on the Blu-ray release of the film in the supplement section "Starships."- 1020 replies

Isn't it mentioned somewhere that until Wolf 359 the Federation wasn't super worried about having a large "militarized" force? I could be wrong, but even without it being said, it's a pretty plausible reason for them to start pumping out ships at a much larger rate. All of that said, you have to realize that Nero's ship was the most advanced ship in the galaxy in the 24th century. He laid would have laid waste to any number of ships set upon him in the 23rd.- 1020 replies

Shop around for that model a bit more if you already haven't. There are a few G74 configurations out there for different vendors including Asus directly. One of them comes with a SSD and generally doesn't cost a lot more from what I've seen. If space is an issue, it has a second hard drive bay either way. Great system otherwise. A buddy of mine has last years model with the ATI chipset and it's a very solid machine. -

So's like, I posted in the Christmas thread about it but I actually got what I wanted! An Nvidia brand GTX 560 Ti. =D -
I have a whole slew of Nerf weapons I no longer use and am looking to possibly get rid of. Any of you guys maybe interested in taking them off my hands? I have the gatling gun, the little folding one with the flashlight, the blue longshot, and a sub machine style one I forget the name of. They're all in a box from when I moved but I can crack it open and get the names of the vague ones. Just curious. ^^

Days late, but Best Buy Mobile and most mobile stores have a device called a genie that should be able to get most/all of her data off the old phone. Never hurts to try. -
Is there any other place besides Latino Review talking about the Skrull? They were also talking about Thanos because of the Infinity Gauntlet being at CC but it was in Thor.

Haha, hehe, hoho. =P I'm sure you knew what I meant.

There was a full timeline picture and explanation of the current timeline and where the new movie fit in. For whatever reason I can't find it now, it was on the STO website. According to that it's an alternate timeline like Dragonball Z.

I don't get the fps "feel" you guys keep referring to. I don't think that some oil splatter is even remotely catering to a different genre of gamer. That's on the top of the list of dumbest things I've ever heard. Back to the DFM being required, I'll have to go back in and play it a few more times. The last few times I played, I was shooting down all planes at distance with special weapons and only had issue when the demo/tutorial phase specifically pointed someone out or when my wingmen were chattering about a certain entry on the battlefield. Short of that, it was AC business as usual. I also felt the reaction commands were cool and again, different in a good way. FPS' aren't the only games to feature those either. My biggest complaint, which is something already pointed out, is that compared to other games and for being a Namco game it is very flat feeling and looks only "so-so" when it comes to the environment.
-
You didn't HAVE to do any of that unless it was part of the tutorial. Switching the controls to original made it fly just like any other AC game. DFM is unique and I like it. You're not required to use it, but it makes it a lot harder to kill "aces" if you don't. As for the escape maneuvers, again, not something that was required and that part certainly wasn't any harder if you didn't use it. The only thing I could do without as you said before is the camera splatter. However I'm not sure if that's what you're thinking is going to cater to blood/gore/splatter gamers? It all looked like oil to me.

It was actually the last movie I've seen in IMAX as sad as that sounds. Was really good though. You're definitely right about the editing too. All that worthless, mushy, and like you said, forced Naboo love stuff was perfectly removed/reduced.
-
Guess I played a different demo. I enjoyed it. Then again, I'm a gamer at heart and from time to time, changing the old formula from just updates in graphics is a good thing. I'll be picking it up once I can.

I cannot wait to watch the chase in the asteroid field from AotC. =O

I wasn't asking a question. It was part of my statement about the awesomeness. Thanks, though. =) Also, isn't that kind of a spoiler?

I just finished the demo and had a blast. The helicopters aiming/lock on system took a bit to get used to but after I did I was flying circles around rpgs and machine gun fire.
