You mean testors flat coat? Never used it, but Krylon make a flat coat I've never had problems with. It's like 3.50 for a big ass can in the hardware store.

Ironic you suggeted that. Since the pilot of it also has blond roy-ish hair and plays an instrument like Roy. I'm almost expecting the kid to be some kind of Roy clone.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
Excillon replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
After really looking at the pictures, I think (call it a slightly-educated guess), that these aren't really like MG's or HG's. I'm guessing maybe a partial inner frame at best. Looking really closely at it though, I'm thinking they're going to be a hybrid between HG and MG. Any of you who have built anything out of the Kotobukiya Armored Core line know what I mean. Not that that's a bad thing at all, the AC kits are really well done. Kind of a stripped down MG kit. Sure you lose some features, but you also loose a lot of pointless crap as well. -
Just when you think things go wrong with your model...

Hmmmm, what keeps me modeling, that's tough. It was a gradual process for me. I went from low end toys like TF's to Gundam FIZ/MSIA, to Macross. Then I realized how boring toy collecting is. I mean, what do you really do it? So, I sold off my toys, save for a few favorites, and bought all the Endless waltz HG kits. Built em, decided to try MG. Bought about 40 kits over a year, built them, detailed them, bought some PG's, and did the same. Then I got bored with Gundam's, realizing they were basically unassembled action figures (not to mention they're all almost the same damn robot) and I wanted to REALLY create something. So I started doing Macross kits. Maybe a valk's a valk, but I can do any scheme I want, customize it any way I want, I like the freedom. That and the fact I love learning other peoples techniques and seeing other's work. My biggest hurdle to overcome is my anal retentiveness. It totally stagnates my building. I'm a machinist for a living, and I'm used to tight tolerances, I just wish I could let go of that a little, because I carry it into my building. I guess the biggest part of why I keep going is learning from the masters here like HWR, Drunkenmaster, WM cheng (the god of valkyries), and others. Keep it up Rockhound, you're making your way up into their ranks pretty quickly. -
I take back what I said about Nora's valk being ugly as sin. What colors/mix did you use? I really like your choice, similar enough to be Nora, but darker. Very, very cool!

Ok, out of respect for my friends here that like the talking robots, I'm not going to bad mouth Transformers. Besides, I still have couple from my TF collecting days and childhood (although the only ones displayed are my AFA Hound which my mom got me a couple years ago for X-mas, and an MIB Matsushiro Jetfire I pieced together over years of ebay hunting). However, I will bad mouth the fact that you obviously don't have a clue about the state of Macross right now or how exciting it is. Here's why you're ignorant: 1/48's are seemingly more affordable and available now than ever. Yamato is scaling all their line to 1/60, which is very cool to truly see the difference in the size of valks. Bandai is re-releasing 1/55's and old model kits Hasegawa is re-releasing kits like the 1D and Minmay guard Battroid Toynami is actually making a semi-good, affordable product with the 1/100's, and they're Macross not Robotech. Toynami is also re-releasing 1/55's, including some new stuff like DYRL Max with FP's, and possibly going to re-release the Strike 1S, and god willing the ELiNT and Ostrich. And finally, Bandai has returned to the Macross market with the upcoming Macross Frontier models and DX toys. And so far from what we've seen in the show and prototypes, they're back with a vengence and actually trying to give us great stuff that rivals Yamato. So if you can't see this is easily the most exciting time in Macross collecting probably since the show's beginning back in the days of Takatoku, you're blind, retarded, or ignorant. I hope it's merely the latter. And after seeing the Transformers Animated line, I wouldn't be parading around with a picture of Ratchet talking about Macross being lame. If you don't like Macross anymore and just came here to start an arguement, then do us all a favor and just go play with with your talking robots and go back to seibertron.com where I'm sure you'll find excellent, more interesting subject matter to discuss with the other 14 year olds on there. And while you're there, tell Ryan I said he's still a little crybaby punk.

You do realize you've built a Reactive armored VF-0S, a VF-0D, an Sv-51 booster kit, and god only knows what else in the time I've assembled and primed ONE VF-1J Super Battroid!!!!!! You're making me look really bad across the board here!
-
Frontier is cool and all, shame you can't get more help. I'd love to see all the Macross series in dub, even Mac7. I'm with RichyX though, I'd kill for a dub of zero. I'm surprised you can't find enough VA's on here for the male roles. I'd love to be a part of something like that.
-
Oh well, if you mess them up you've got more on the way, right?
-
Yes, my FAVORITE macross fighter of all time. ugly battroid mode though...
-
I say get the ultimate iconic Macross toy. A 1/55 bandai super VF-1S. Some will say "ewwwww chunky monkey", but it's a great piece of nostalgia, still floors most of todays stuff in terms of craftsmanship, and the 2002 reissue box kicks ass and looks great displayed. Wish I had the 02 reissue.

Question for People who do good work from scratch
Excillon replied to VFTF1's topic in The Workshop!
I say look at the Takara Cy girls line, RAH or sideshow, find the closest one to her appearance and mod it. Plus, using a 12 inch figure you could get multiple outfits, weapons/accessories, etc. -
Looking for screenshot for model custom idea...
Excillon replied to Rockhound's topic in The Workshop!
Might be able to help out, if no one else gets the pics up sooner. BTW, I've actually heard the Hase gerwalk bash isn't too hard, I was actually thinking of trying it by ripping up some of my earlier "learning" kits (Although I'm still learning), maybe it'd be cool if I kind of follow along. -
All in all, it still came out nice. Good job!
-
That looks really awesome rockhound. I think you've persuaded me to add one more to my backlog!
-
I see what you mean about the blue. That's nice!
-
Is that the same copter as blackout from Transformers? Looks like it. Awesome work. Blackout and Barricade were the only two worth a crap in that movie anyhow design wise.

Double post, sorry!

I don't know...seems like reaching to me. But hey, you can't argue with logic in a world of make believe, can you? Anyway, I don't want to derail rockhound's thread anymore. I feel like we're being rude to him. So rockhound, curious about what kind of blue you're going to use. IMO the blue it's supposed to be is ugly. I'd recommend doing a darker blue, maybe even Max blue. Of course, an angel birds scheme would totally kick ass. That's my opinion though.

So then we could expect the vf-25 to be smaller than the 19 and 21?
-
But then, why did valks get bigger again in M plus, like the 21 and 19 vs. the vf-1? Anyhow, back on topic, I've been eyeing this kit for a while, great to see one being built! Maybe it'll help me decide if I really want it or not.
