The most feared (and sarcastic) droid squad in all of the Rebellion: . . . unless they wind up killing each other:
-
I think part of it is that the show is stuck on Tattooine. Mando had the advantage of having him move around to wildly different locations. The other issue is what I mentioned earlier: half-baked ideas that weren’t completely mulled over and thoroughly spot-checked. There’s nothing wrong with the idea of the Vespa gang, but acknowledge that they blow what little money they have on clothes and parts for themselves and their bikes. Like I said: have the characters call crap out and incongruities out.

Isn’t there a bit of a time-jump for the Laconia book arc? Based on interviews I’ve read and heard, they figured it was best to end the TV series at the Free Navy arc. There’s been some good moments here and there this season. Drummer’s still freakin’ awesome. No one can cuss like Avasarala. And the space fights have been ramped up some. So, I’m excited to see how they end this. One thing they added for this season is some extra scenes that you can only watch on your mobile device or desktop/laptop (the X-Ray stuff). Unfortunately, you can’t access these scenes from your smart TV though. One other thing that’s been kinda fun to watch has been the aftershows with Ty Franck and Wes Chatham (Amos). Fun interviews with the cast and crew, and it’s a trip to see the cast out of character.

When I watched it, I didn’t mind the ep that much. But based on everyone’s observations here, the powers that be should have given more thought to a lot of their ideas and plot moves. Someone should have been the critical eye and asking the whys and the “Does this make sense?” questions. Like either make that Vespa crew look drabbier, or have Boba or Fennec verbally call it out (“You can’t find work, and yet you can afford cybernetics and nice bikes?”). I’m sure they can come up with a viable excuse/justification to say in response. Toss in a few more throwaway lines like that. Have Boba ask how the hell the Wookiee got all the way to his bacta tank. Have Fennec comment that for all those years hanging around Jabba, Boba didn’t learn how to run the business? Or have Boba say he wasn’t around when Jabba consolidated his power; he only saw when it was already up and running. I’d rather have those lines tossed in there, rather than an extra few seconds of sweeping vista scenes or the fast-forwardable chase scene. Back to the actual story, it looks like the Pykes are the main bad guys for both stories.

Marvel Studios TV Shows and Animation on Disney+
Mog replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The only issue is that Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird) was already introduced in Agents of SHIELD. And Mrs. Barton’s name is Laura. Given how the MCU has treated SHIELD in the past, who knows what they’ll do? BUT, Adrianne Palicki was pretty kick ass as Bobbi Morse. Regarding the watch, I thought there was some tracking coordinates to the Barton home. Honestly, I’m too lazy to double-check or rewatch those scenes again.- 1403 replies

Finished up Season 4 today. Not bad, kinda made some surprising choices storywise, and had some amusing bits. Looks like they're trying to make it where no one is really truly the "bad guy," per se. They're clearly going for a Season 5, but not sure how much more story they can go with. Hopefully, they end the series on the high note, and just don't drag out the show season after season.

I wonder if Disney's contract with Ming-Na Wen requires that any character she portrays must scowl or display RBF. 😅

No-No Boy by John Okada. I may be an American-born Filipino, but this novel about a Japanese American and his friends, dealing with issues in post-WWII America, still resonates with me. A young guy and his family gets forcibly sent to a "camp," and one day, someone asks if he's willing to fight for the US. He says, "No," is sent to prison, gets released after the war, and now has to deal with the repercussions of that decision. The novel starts from there and hits this situation from many different angles. One of the earliest Asian American novels written, it's a beautifully written story. I did read this when I was relatively young. But now that I'm older with more life experiences, I picked up on more things I didn't notice during previous readings. Animal Farm and 1984 by George Orwell. My personal favorite dystopian writer. Are animals are equal. . . A satire and fable, Animal Farm is a relatively quick read that has an ending that will stick with you for a long time. Ignorance is Strength I love the fact that 1984 can be used against either side of the political spectrum. But it saddens me that a lot of the stuff in 1984 can easily be found in our current world, even though it's been almost 75 years since it was first published.

The Matrix Resurrections (What is The Matrix 4?)
Mog replied to TangledThorns's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I’m sure that came into play, but I know Wachowski also wrote this film while dealing with one or two parents’ death. This seems to come through with all the nostalgia berries and sentimentality in Resurrection. EDIT:- 287 replies

Kinda snickered a bit through most of the ep. But I will admit: it left me wanting to see more. And Jawas truly are the car-jackers of the galaxy! 🤣

The Matrix Resurrections (What is The Matrix 4?)
Mog replied to TangledThorns's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Watched it finally after some technical difficulties. Found it better than the two sequels. The action sequences felt kinda bland, and the ending action sequence felt like a knock-off zombie battle. There is some winking, nodding, and breaking of the fourth wall which was fine. But something in the story and characters resonated. Right under all the nostalgia-berries and the love story, there seems to be this snuck-in, recurring theme that all this binary, yes-or-no thinking limits us far too much. EDIT:- 287 replies

Marvel Studios TV Shows and Animation on Disney+
Mog replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well. . . that ending sucked. Played it too safe. The comedy felt out of place. . . Considering how there were these dark undertones throughout the whole series, this ending just doesn’t fit right. I wouldn’t mind more of Kate and Yelena bantering. But Marvel needs to stop leaning on the worn out formulas and tropes with these Disney+ series. The only one I really liked start to finish has been Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Loki was good right until the whole good guy/mirror image bad guy fight and the “This was all set up for NEXT season!” ending. Ugh, such a disappointment.- 1403 replies

If you say it with a Russian accent, that would be a negative. Especially if the “big guy” doesn’t like the phrase. He’s already showed a tendency to. . . umm. . . slam on some Russians.- 1403 replies

Watched the first two eps of Expanse Season 6. First ep definitely felt very disjointed, as they’re trying to show us what everyone’s been up to and resetting the proverbial table. Second ep was better. A little more focused and better story payoff. Still don’t see the point with the little girl though. Yeah, I know the planet is Laconia and I know its significance to the book series. But with 6 eps only for this season, I thought the show would focus more on the whole Free Navy situation.

And here I thought Jet had a passing resemblance to Jigen from Lupin III. I thought the live action actor did a solid job with the character. I’d seen him previously in Luke Cage with a very different accent, so it was a trip to see him as Jet and sound almost exactly like the English version voice actor. The only real change they made was giving him a daughter, which didn’t really mess up the essence of his character. Again, despite the obvious flaws, there was potential with the show.
