  1. ^^ . . . . . .Why? Why doesn't Hollywood just remake Casablanca or freakin' Citizen Kane and be done with it?
  2. ^^That's the same one I heard too. P.S.--That horror movie director, Eli Roth, is one of the Basterds. Also,
  3. So, why'd he make her dye her hair black (or wear a black wig) for Pulp Fiction? Also, just wanted to mention that the main baddie in Basterds was generally pretty f'ng good and engaging. Other than the drawn-out strudel scene, he's one of the more interesting characters in the film.
  4. Regarding anime52k8's post: Although I don't agree with Vic's points, I gotta say he has stated his case and his reasons for disliking the film clearly and quite logically. One of the things I was personally worried about before watching District 9 was whether the story would live up to the buzz and hype we were generating. So, I personally went in hoping for something thought-provoking but nothing genre-breaking ala Dark Knight or the first Matrix movie. I could see if people's expectations were set really, really high why they'd be disappointed with the film. Personally, I liked the movie and consider it thought-provoking enough. But I can understand some of the criticisms being made. Again, Vic's done a bang-up job of stating his case. You and I may not agree with his position, but you gotta respect that he argues his point well.
  5. Just got back from watching the film. And I can give it a mild recommendation (Don't go in expecting a "historically accurate" story though). If you're a fan of Tarantino's well-known style (dialogue-heavy scenes with the occasional flourish of gleefully over-the-top violence), you'll enjoy it enough. If you get annoyed with Tarantino's techniques or are just plain bored now by his style, you'll probably wanna skip the Basterds. I hate to say it, but I'm starting to see the seams in Quentin's style, especially with Basterds. On more than a few occasions I found myself saying, "Hey, isn't that musical cue from Kill Bill?" or "Isn't she from Kill Bill too?" Also, a few of the scenes seemed to scream, "I'm a cool little cinematic or pacing technique! LOOK AT ME!!" And at 2 1/2 hours long, the film definitely could use some editing. Understand, I'm a fan of Tarantino's stuff. But I think having a stronger editor (to reign Quentin in just a bit) would have made the film a lot tighter. When the film is focusin' on "killin' NAT-Sees!!" , you can just see the energy ooze on-screen. But the middle part of the film (with a certain cameo) just really killed the film's pace. All in all, don't go in expecting to see the greatest Tarantino film. It's okay, but it has its flaws. P.S.--Is it just me, or did you get the sense that Quentin wrote one of the two female roles for Uma Thurman?
  6. . . .And all Vipers had just three buttons on the control stick: FIRE, TURBO, and REVERSE.
  7. I'm sure some of them are okay. But I can think of a massive number of other figures most folks would rather get before getting ROC-themed Joes and Cobras: * Low-Light * Techno-Viper * Covergirl * Jinx * Footloose * Dial-Tone (both the old school one and the Resolute one) * Lifeline * Airtight * Zandar * Zarana * Female version of the Strato-Viper * Crazylegs * Fast Draw * Law and Order * Spearhead and Max * Gung-Ho (in Marine Dress Blues) * Hydro-Viper * Ghostrider * Road Pig * Astro-Viper * SAW Viper * Kwinn And I'm sure there's a whole heap of others I haven't even mentioned yet. Of course, they can also do the later release versions of Snake Eyes, Stalker, Rock n' Roll, Storm Shadow (second Joe version), and a mess of others. I'd just like Hasbro to show a little more "love" towards the old-school collectors. And the recent news coming out of the latest conventions isn't exactly promising on that front.
  8. To get the full comedic/tragic effect, have playing in the background:
  9. Yeah, I agree with you there. Sometimes things are better left to the imagination. Besides if Hollywood really likes these guys' work, how about we clear up all those annoying issues and get 'em working on that Halo movie again?
  10. My first "Macross" toy would be this little Convertor Maladroid bad boy: I remember getting really bummed as a kid when I broke the handle on the gunpod (was trying to twist it around so the gunpod would be facing front in fighter mode). However, my first official Macross toy wouldn't come until much, much later: (Bandai Re-Release)
  11. No, that would clearly be left for the eventual sequel. Again, I still think the treatments from chowyunskinny's links would be better served as a television series. Plus if it's a movie, I'm worried we'll wind up with some derivative of the following ending: Apollo: "Boxey, tell your daggit, you were RIGHT. You were right about me." Boxey: "But I have to save you!" Apollo: "You already have, Lu. . .erm, Boxey. You already have. . ."
  12. Hmm , the Green Beta's underbelly parts are grey, instead of white. That's a little different.
  13. Interesting reads. It sounds like a fairly interesting concept. . . . . .for a television series. But I'm not so sure about it as a single movie or triology of movies. P.S.--Despite coming out during the late 70's, I actually dig the original series' dark-brown-jacket-over-a-tan-uniform look. Wasn't very functional, but it was stylish as hell!
  14. I actually like this idea! Considering it's Bryan Singer though, I'll give him a little benefit of the doubt. He did some great work with The Usual Suspects and X2. However, I really didn't like how over-faithfully he stuck to the original Superman movie mythology in Superman Returns. . . .Now that I'm thinking about it though, don't we already have a general outline of how this movie's plot will pan out? * The 12 colonies are at peace or are signing a peace treaty with the Cylons. * The Cylons sneak-attack and destroy almost all of the colonies and the Battlestars. * Galactica somehow survives all this. * Galactica picks up its rag-tag, fugitive fleet. * The fleet has a minor battle against the Cylons (maybe only one or two basestars). * Galactica is victorious and plots a path towards Earth. * BUT the Cylons are in hot pursuit!!!! (And we have GUARANTEED SEQUELS$$$$ if the movie opens up as the No. 1 film for the week! ) Did I miss anything?
  15. ^^Regarding wolfx's question: One thing that was also left up in the air was
  16. FINALLY!! A summer movie flick that entertained my brain! Great action and a fairly solid plot. See Hollywood: you don't necessarily have to dumb down your action flicks. Thankfully, the film also isn't too heavy-handed with its social message either. Gotta say District 9 and Up have been the two real stand-outs this summer. Just wish they had given us a bit more info. (like how much time had passed) with District 9's epilogue.
  17. Was the default number of posts per topic page changed from 20 to 15 posts?
  18. . . . . Never thought I'd be envious of a clarinet. Was that Henry Rollins as Duke?! Flint's gonna get f*&ked! Season 1 of the Wonder Years DVD's? Did hell freeze over and someone forgot to tell me?
  19. Let me just say that, despite watching the cartoon as a kid, I was always a bigger fan of the comic book series. So if I come off as a "hater" , it's because I have a much stronger preference and love for the old comic books. For me, given all the interesting backstories and potential, I think they could have made this film so much more than just a mindlessly fun, summer action flick. Look, I don't mind eye-candy. But sometimes my brain wants to be entertained too! I mean, hell, the comic book Cobra Commander was able to get a bunch of dissatisfied, disillusioned Americans and whip them up into a home-grown, highly organized terrorist group! You mean to tell me they couldn't come up with an thought-provoking, yet action packed, movie and plot based on that premise? Or how about focusing on the insidious, enemy-within-our-midst aspect of the Crimson Guard? Or making Destro into a pragmatic arms dealer ("War is my business, and it profits me to sell to both sides of a conflict. The war lasts longer, and my company earns more.")? Or could Cobra Commander sway a few of the Joes to his side, asking them why they're risking their lives constantly for a meager wage? As a big, big fan of the comic book series, it's frustrating as hell to see a live-action movie utterly drop the ball on all these potential ideas, especially when Resolute showed how awesome GI Joe could be if it stays close to its roots. I just think the film could have been so much more. To go back to the Big Mac analogy: it's like taking a nice juicy slab of prime rib and just grinding it up to make the ground-beef patties of a Big Mac. The Big Mac might taste good, but the prime rib would have been so much more awesome and delicious.
  20. Regarding the Alphas, don't forget: * The arms that can't hold a gun and stay parallel to the ground. * The torso that plops down in battroid mode. * The landing gear that barely makes the Alpha's ground clearance less than 1mm. * And praying that all the parts get assembled just well enough that your Alpha will NOT have its nose slope upward in fighter mode. Just to name a few. ......Dang it eugi, where's my DOVES!!?
  21. From my strictly unbiased opinion, you should definitely buy the Beta. It is one solid, solid piece (and about $50 less than the ride armors). Granted, there are some unsightly gaps in the undercarriage and between the missile rack and the legs/boosters. They could have added a weapon and some shoulder-mounted missiles to pop up like the CMs version. And yes, the cockpit just folds down rather noticeably in battloid mode. But, the Beta has: * Solid-as-hell ratchet joints all over the place; * Die-cast metal in the right places (all in the legs, none in the arms); * None of the floppiness or ridculously small design tolerances that plagued the Alphas; * Awesome stickers with none of that ugly, murky haze; * Fairly good posing options (including the ability to do an A stance); and * A much better, flush looking fighter combo mode. I love the big blue bastard!! @Eugimon: If you're going M:I2, you need to add some flying doves in those pics!
  22. No Synchro-Cannon on the Shadow Beta? I thought they were gonna add that to this release.
  23. With all those connecting vehicle parts being major articulation joints, I'd just be scared as hell of this thing becoming a floppy mess. Plus, how good will the posing options be? Are they gonna compromise the look of the vehicles for the sake of articulation? Or will the articulation suffer for the sake of solid looking vehicles?
  24. No, no, no. We need them to focus on making KOTOR figures. With The Old Republic game coming out in the near future, it makes sense for Hasbro to revisit the characters from the old KOTOR games. Bastila, Sith Troopers, and improved re-releases of Revan, Malak, and HK-47. . .am I asking for too much?
  25. It's about time Hasbro gets the headsculpt for Farmboy Luke right (seeing as they've botched him up with each new release these past few years). We'll have to see though how the final product turns out before we can scratch another definitive Luke off the list. Now, all Hasbro has to do is deliver a definitive Hoth Luke, Bespin Luke, and DSII Luke. Yeesh, with all the Luke variants they've made over the years, you'd think Hasbro would have a few go-to headsculpts/molds for Mark Hamill by now. Do not mock the Ice Cream Maker Guy; many a hard-core SW geek will get mad at you! Plus, he may become your next pegwarmer for the upcoming year.
