Could one of you fine gentlemen who have acquired this please post a comparison pic of this beast in Attacker mode next to a 1/48 VF-1 in battroid mode? Moggy's curious to see how these two look next to one another.
-
Hopefully, this is a good sign and will give Yamato more incentive to make a genuine TV-style Macross. <fingers crossed> Also, are there any comparison pics out there now of this DYRL Macross next to a 1/48 VF-1?

Thanks for the thorough review, complete with pics and vids no less!! As our own "thank you," do you want us to send you some stong sedatives or a few tranqulizers to shut the yappers on those dogs? Definitely love how solid the figure and transformation look. Hopefully, this does well enough to warrant a genuine TV-style release!

What are you hoping to get for Christmas (or a holiday gift)?
Mog replied to ultimateone's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'll keep it small scale. I just want a nice nap and some honest to goodness relaxation. No running around to multiple family or friend's parties. No having to stress out over some stupid tasks or unnecessary projects. Just give me one whole day to be selfish. And let me stay at home and chill. Let ME do whatever I want or feel needs to be taken care of for the whole day. And let me get to do those things without interruptions. . . . On second thought, how about world peace instead? It'll be easier to accomplish than my above request! -
Can't believe it's taken me this many years to make the connection. But I just realized that the hair on the Comic Pack Mara Jade looks very similar to Misa's cinnamon-bun hairstyle. Also, will I lose my Macross World street cred' for admitting that I'm absolutely digging this head chest shin-kicking figure?:

What do you think is the most innovative VF design?
Mog replied to Xx-SKULL-ONE-xX's topic in Movies and TV Series
Surprised no one touched upon this yet concerning the YF-21. But I find it pretty "innovative" that they were able to take the best features of the VF-1 Valkyrie and the Q-Rau and blend them together to come up with a beautiful, separately distinct design. Seriously, someone looked at the big, burly form of the Q-Rau (with its spindly legs, the cannons on its arms, and those huge hulking backpack thrusters) and figured out a way to get that general battroid form to fit into the sleek, "skinny-bitch" fighter profile of the YF-21. That perfect mixing human and Zent design traditions? THAT'S what I consider innovative. -
Ya know, that "VF-**" Graham was referring to could also be the VF-0D. In all likelihood, it probably is the -17. But you never know.

I realize we may have to go through the whole "expensive, larger-scale exclusive to make the smaller 1/3000 version" thing again. But I'd rather have a 100% accurate TV version. I've always been a bigger fan of the TV-style SDF-1 (Big nostalgia factor bonus there). So, I'd rather wait for a proper TV-style SDF-1 to mount the Daedalus and Prometheus to. Besides, I'm a patient man; I can wait (and save money) until someone does the TV version right.

1/48+fp's, 1/60, And 1/72 Picture Gallery Pt 4
Mog replied to VF-18S Hornet's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Considering how Dallas and Houston are doing this season though, he doesn't have to live in fear. And as much as it pains me to say this, there's that whole six to five thing. -
I should have known Matt and Trey would do something like that. Unlike most comic books though, at least they stayed consistent with past episodes and didn't try to pull off some way-out-there, crazy retcon. Also, I absolutely love Mysterion's pissed-fueled, angry rants. After experiencing all those incidents over the years, I think the character deserved his moment to bitch, moan, and complain about his life.

Years from now, my daughter is either gonna say, "Dad, that is freakin' AWESOME!!" Or more likely, "Seriously, Dad? You made me dress up as THAT? "
-
I thought the first part of Coon and Friends was a little meh (loved the continuity though with the Killer Whale and Tom Cruise still lying on the moon). But they definitely made up for it with the second part. Somehow, having be Mysterion just seems to make sense. PULL THE DAMN TRIGGER, YOU P*SSY!!

Iron Man 2 (Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow!)
Mog replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Okay, who here would love to have this Iron Man costume? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ASE_mRXXH8 -
Just to chime in, let's not forget that the Beta was engineered/designed by Aoshima(sp?). I still give Toynami major props for finally releasing the Beta, but we still have to give credit to where credit is due. Getting back on topic, I recall a number of people on the boards (maybe even Graham himself) saying that it would have been impossible to have the gunpods internally mounted and keep the fighter profile as sleek as it is on the VF-DoubleDeuce.

Strike A Pose! V.4 - The Macross Mech Pose Thread
Mog replied to JCSaves's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Thanks. It sucks that I had to box a bunch of the Valks and Alphas that used to occupy the space (Well, they were Toynami's though. ) But it's amazing how much nicer the shelf looks now that there's fewer items up on there. -
"Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle." ------------------------------------------ ""You are a very harsh master, Master. I like you." ------------------------------------------ "If I see one more idiot attacking a Jedi with a blaster pistol I'll kill them myself!" ------------------------------------------ "Mines are also effective, since many Jedi will run to meet you in hand to hand combat. Silly Jedi."

For a second there, I thought, "Wait, wait, wait, wait, WAIT!! He traded a Thunder Hummer for a Speeder bike?! " Glad to see I was wrong. Very nice custom camo scheme though.

Okay, so only half the mechas are Macross-related. Hope you still enjoy it: Side View: -

Yes, it's not all Macross in there. Yes, there's only one Yammy in there. Yes, the scales are all mixed up (with a 1/55, a 1/60, and a couple of 1/whatever-the-hell-scale-they-are Alphas). But I really don't care. I like how they all look together. -
No Beagle Blow Superior... that blows superior...
Mog replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Who you callin' a "floppy-ass mess"?!! I keep thinking the Beta should have more missiles and weapon hatches to it. It looks a little lacking when compared to the Alpha. It probably would have been tricky to pull off properly, but pop-out shoulder missile launchers would have been an awesome addition. Also, I forgot how beautiful the Red Alpha looks in fighter mode. Its solid color pattern really makes it stand out from the rest of the Alphas out there. -
^^Poor Zentradi, he must be awfully squished in there!

^^With the way I set up the question, that would actually fall under the "lack of ability" category. Whenever there's some sort of obstacle or limitation preventing you from buying more Valks (whether it's financial issues, lack of space issues, Yamato shifting towards more web exclusives, girlfriend/wife making an ultimatum , etc.), I'd qualify that more as a lack of ability. It's not an issue of you not wanting to buy more Valks. Rather, there's a tangible "something" (in your case, your industry's severe pay cuts) that prevents you from fulfilling that wish. I'm sure there's no question you'd like to purchase more Valks, but the financial issues prevent that from happenning. On the other hand, lack of desire comes into play when you could make that purchase (even if you would have to do some significant budgeting, planning, and saving), but your heart is just not in it anymore. Or less severely, you just don't have the same fire for collecting Valks like you once did. To put it another way, is it more external pressures or internal pressures that keep us from buying more Macross goodies? I'm not saying the two groupings are mutually exclusive. But to paraphase Michael Madsen's character in Kill Bill, Vol. 2, you've gotta feel one more than the other.
-
Very valid points. I do agree with you. I'd only argue that it probably peaked a few years later (say somewhere around 2007 or 2008?). I'm curious though, for our community as a whole, is it more an issue of lack of ability (don't have as much discretionary income to purchase toys) or more an issue of lack of desire (changing priorities as we get older)? I'm sure it's a combination of the two. But which of the two is the bigger factor? As I posted earlier, personally, I know I have the ability to purchase a few of the high-end Valks. But the desire's not exactly all there. On the other hand, if Yamato was to announce a TV-style SDF-1 priced at US$500, I'd be lying if I said that price wouldn't give me pause and make me think hard about a potential purchase.
