Poll: Yamato 1/60 Legioss/TREAD Combo
Mog replied to Lonely Soldier Boy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
There's definitely room for improvement for both the Legioss and Tread. I think I've talked ad nauseum in other posts about the improvements needed for Toynami's basic Alpha. But on the Tread, despite me seriously loving the Toynami Beta, there's some things that can be improved: Bigger, removeable chest missiles; Adding the shoulder, pop-up missile launchers (present on the CM Tread); A twisting cockpit piece to improve the look of the soldier/battroid mode; Stronger and additional locking points for the fighter combo (the Alpha's arm boosters and the Beta's chest intakes don't really connect on the Toynami version); More details and rivets to panel-line (ala the CM Tread); Less of a gap between the two leg boosters and the yellow missile rack in bomber mode; Integrating the landing gears into the body without compromising the bomber's bottom clearance space. Reducing the unsightly gaps on the solo bomber's underside (where the torso, hips, and upper legs are). If Yamato could address these issues and seriously knock it out of the park with both the Tread and Legioss (definitely needs to match or exceed the size of the current combo offerings - meaning 1/60 scale is out of the question), then I'd be hard pressed and tempted to get one. But if it's just a marginal improvement in some aspects but a step back in other areas, then it'd be an easy pass for me. Just my 2 cents. -
The Stampede? Yes. It's a bit much too. As for the Armored VF-25, I just look at it as a natural evolution of the Reactive and GBP-1S armor. You gotta figure someone at Spacy probably said, "S*&t!! Why don't we just integrate the armor with the transformation process? Enough of this sacrificing-fighter-and-GERWALK-modes-for-the-extra-armor-and-missiles crap!" Makes sense from an extended storyline standpoint (much like the YF-21 being the result of further human and Zent' collaborations). I'll admit there's some "kewl kibble" on the Armored VF-25 too. But that nice little aspect of evolving a GBP-like accessory into a versatile, multi-mode armor mitigates that kibble factor. In any case, if there's one good thing that can come out of this poll, it's that more people are probably checking out the M3 website more in-depth.

Sorry repost. (Site was acting fidgety for me a little earlier.)

C'mon eugi, that orange and green thing is clearly a "variant" of the VF-4! Doesn't this just SCREAM VF-4?!!!!!

But how many of them are official/canon? Like I said before, the VF-4 in fighter mode is drop-dead gorgeous. It is a beautiful, beautiful looking fighter. If only some of the shoulder kibble was used instead to make some semblance of a back or backpack, I would probably like the battroid mode a hell of a lot more. And if we're going off the model kit above, the VF-4 really needs something of a better defined back. ------------------------- As for the VF-2SS, I really don't mind the stand-alone version. But the SAP version is beyond excessive for my tastes. Seriously, is the 2SS "compensating" for somethin' with its railgun and kibble?

If you've got a white or light-colored background, you could cheat with those do-it-yourself sticker/decal sheets. But that's only if the decal or sticker has some color in it. However, whether it's a colorful or all-white decal, it's a PITA if you're trying to put any kind of sticker or decal on a dark-colored spot. Even something as simple as a red NO STEP sticker needs white under it to really pop out and become legible. I've cheated a little bit with using a white-out/correction tape strip and then printing over it to make white decals (think a pilot's name on a black background). But it's tricky to get the sticker's printed color to match the background (unless the background's black). And it doesn't look all that great the larger the sticker size becomes.

Looking good. How'd the paint hold up after the transformation? Any issues with chipping or paint rubbing off anywhere? -
We got a different tradition here on the MW boards. If you really want something damn near impossible to get made, you have to make it your avatar and keep it there until the pooch finally gets released. Through hell or high water, though months or years may pass, you keep that Fuke prototype as your avatar no matter what. It may take a long, LONG time. But it eventually works. * It worked for UN Spacy and the FP'ed version of the YF-19. * And it worked for me and the Toynami Beta (Hell, I kept the ol' "Build It." avatar even after the initial CM Tread release). I'm surprised after all these months and all these complaints that no one's picked up the Fuke prototype "cross" and made it their personal avatar.

The only "BOMBA" I'll ever acknowledge comes from Betamax tapes!

Let's look at this from Yamato's perspective: * Multiple canon variants and color-schemes. * Design and transformation style that's very much in line with the rest of the Macross birds. * BUT still unique enough in its look and style to be differentiated from the rest of the pack. * Sufficient amount of accesories. * Looks reminiscent of a modern, real life fighter plane. VF-17 NIGHTMARE Besides, if Yamato can pull off this bird (Link), a few more tweaks and modifications to that basic design and mold can lead them to this bad boy (and that ADDITIONAL set of official variants and accesories) (Evolved Link). Plus, we'd get the added bonus of making Darth Maharg, most pleased. EDIT: Thanks, M. Frost. Late-night brain-fart with the links on my part.

^^Love how you completely ignore the -17s.

Absolutely love the look of the VF-4 in fighter mode. But I just can't stand the battroid mode. For something so sleek and beautiful in fighter, it just seems to lack that same sleekness and design asthetic in battroid. Oh, and in case anyone's wondering what the hell I was talking about in my earlier post, here's a link to that "non-canon" VF-17 I was mentioning. . . (Pic Link).

After releasing the M7 versions, what would be the chances of getting a "non-canon" version of the VF-17 slightly souped-up and painted with a gold canopy and a cobalt blue color-scheme?

NO! I WILL NOT PURCHASE HIS FIRE VALKYRIE!!!!! Glad to see the M&M Double-Deuces getting made though. EDIT: Ooh! Just noticed the little bit of gold on the wingroots(? ) too. Nice touch.

What are you scheming, you little tease? Keep us posted (especially with pics). Are you gonna add some additional custom touches with the stickers and such? -
^^I forget if it was the left or the right one, but the same piece broke on my Shadow Alpha too. Would a drop (or two or three) of superglue work in your situation? On my Shadow, I was able to superglue the part back into place with no real ill effects. The transformation process wasn't really hampered by it either (though I do treat the repaired part with kid gloves).

In case someone at Yamato is reading this thread: Just because a few of us may NOT purchase this DYRL version of the Macross doesn't mean we won't buy a TV version later on down the road. Assuming it's reasonably priced, let me just say, I WILL PURCHASE A TV-VERSION SDF-1 IF YOU RELEASE ONE. With that said, DYRL Attacker mode looks good so far. With something this size, I really hope all of those joints have beautiful click-click ratchet joints. Hopefully, the fully painted version will look intricately detailed too.
