  1. Understand, I'm a HUGE fan of Nolan's Batman series. Other than short-changing his detective aspects (which practically every version save the DC Animated Universe has done ), it's been simply the best version of Batman to ever hit the silver screen. It fills your action quota AND occasionally taps into those higher thinking/high concept areas of your brain. HOWEVER, I've never really expected that from any of the recent Marvel Avenger-related movies. After all the crap comic movies we had to endure in the 80's and 90's, the main things I wanted from your "typical" comic-book movie are the following: Stay respectful towards the source material; Make sure your tone matches the comic's tone (Batman = dark; X-Men = experiences and reactions of those labeled "others"/"outsiders" by society; Any potential Deadpool film = Sarcastic, quippy, and constantly breaking the fourth wall); Don't constantly pander to the lowest common denominator; and Either have a good story or be entertaining as hell (if you have both, even better). The Avengers hit all those keys with me. I wasn't looking for Inception, the first (and best) Matrix movie, or The Dark Knight. I just wanted an entertaining film that stayed true to who those comic book heroes are. Much like the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man and Batman Begins, The Avengers did just that. The jokes/one-liners were generally the type that would tickle the fan-boys' fancy (and not induce massive eye-rolling). And the film had me entertained and giddy pretty much the whole time. With Avengers, I never went in expecting a bunch of brooding, massively flawed, ultra-conflicted heroes. These particular heroes are generally portrayed as larger than life. Hell, each of them can take on a small army all by their lonesome selves. Want to show off their tragic flaws more for the sequel? I'm fine with that. (I just hope the sequel doesn't go back to square one with these heroes fighting one another again.) As I said earlier, I wasn't looking for a high-concept, thinking-man's movie. I just wanted an entertaining, but just smart enough, summer flick. Ain't nothing wrong with that.
  2. No, this is the. . . . umm. . . . "best":
  3. Just got back from watching it. Wifey was awesome enough to watch the toddler and baby, while I spent 2 hours and 43 minutes enjoying a movie (first movie I've watched in an actual theater since District 9 ). That was a fun, FUN romp! Hulk was a pleasant surprise for me. His response to Loki's "speech" was absolutely pitch perfect. Also, I'm not certain about all my Marvel history/lore, but Yeah, make sure you stay until the VERY END of the credits
  4. Damn, BV. We need to get you the updated Bespin Han.
  5. My current set-up: Never thought I'd get all those Phantom Menace figures. But the Palpatine figure was just too well-made, and I kept hearing a lot of good things about the Maul figure. Unless they finally give us some KOTOR Sith Troopers (or I get a bigger place), I'm probably done with my collection.
  6. English subs for episode 3 are out. Glad to see that this series is continuing with the original's beautiful use of orchestral background music. I especially liked the strings playing in the background during the photograph/flashback scene.
  7. Just PM me, Scream. Thanks for the update, Marzan. Didn't realize the eps get released later in the week. Not too shabby of an ep. . . Though, I'm waiting for someone to point out that the power of screaming defeats an enemy!
  8. We've been yapping about the sequel series and the related manga over here (at the tail end of the thread): http://www.macrosswo...ic=14632&st=560 Finally got a chance to watch the first ep. last night. The overall plot seems to be following the manga consistently, but there are some significant differences. My first impressions of the anime (after being spoiled by the manga that's only three issues in)?: I definitely preferred the way they introduced Ao in manga: lying in the beach water completely at peace, having an internal monologue that provided us insight into his character. It just works so much better on so many levels, tying back to the series' surfer undertones and kinda tying back to Ao's overall loneliness. I never imagined Ao's voice sounding that deep, but I'm cool with it. I thought the kid's hair is supposed to green? Guess, some part of him has to resemble Also, even though the year is listed as 2025, that year could in actuality be 102025. Not sure how that would mesh with the years/dates shown in the original TV series. But it wouldn't surprise me if they are AFTER the events of the first TV series. There's a couple of reliable sites I use to find the anime and the manga. Just shoot me a PM.
  9. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this summer's movies.
  10. So if one were to summarize this season in a few words, it would be: water fights, Droids "Gump"ing it, Krell, and torture Obi-Wan.
  11. ^^LOL Guess the reason he didn't off Obi so quickly was because he wanted to talk to Obi about his FEELINGS.
  12. Not too shabby of an ep. Looking back at the whole season, it kinda sucks that we only got one arc really centered on the clones.
  13. She has the power of "DAT ASS!!!!â„¢"
  14. Getting back to this week's ep, I didn't mind the minor bait-and-switch (with the story focusing solely on Asajj and not the red-faced, horned dude). If this is how she bows out of the series, I don't mind the ending they gave Asajj.
  15. The beginning and ending are a little abrupt, but the hook is solid: Sometimes hip-hop can be deeper than just booty and bling. Absolutely LOVE this one:
  16. To which I say, "DO THE EVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!"
  17. Since it's already Feb. 26th in Japan, figure it's an appropriate day to post these (in memoriam): Really dig the song that starts around the 5:00 minute mark, but the first one is rather chill:
  18. Definitely a solid ep. Asajj should have remembered that you gotta use Force powers to beat Greivous. Actually like how the Nightsisters ain't exactly allied with the Sith. As much as I hope they continue to focus on Asajj's path, I have a sneaking suspicion the focus will continue to move towards a certain horned, tattooed, red fella.
  19. Don't worry you ain't the only one. The reboot was lacking that underlying theme/allegory on the human condition that's usually found in all of the good (read: even-numbered, except for ST Nemesis) Trek movies. I'll give JJ credit: he can write and film a tight plot. But there's something about his style of story-telling or the substance/content of his stories that I personally find lacking.
  20. ^^Yeah, I think I've seen practically all of his works. The level of detail he pulls off at such a small scale is nothing short of amazing. He's easily the best Star Wars figure customizer out there.
  21. Now all we need is a VF-4, a VF-17, a YF/VF-19, and a YF-21/VF-22 in the white/yellow/black color-scheme, and the Skull Squadron will be complete! Heck, you're already half way there.
  22. Nah, that's gonna be for the new daddy. Congrats, man! They're a LOT of work, but they'll bring you a TON of joy, especially during the small unexpected moments.
  23. Sorry but after seeing this custom first (Link), Sith Fire 30's custom Darth Malgus puts Hasbro's version to shame. Correction: It Force-chokes the Hasbro version, hits it with a bit of Force lightning, slaps it around a bit, slices and dices it up with a few choice lightsaber cuts, then Force hurls it into a million little bloody parts, chunks, and bits. It's that freakin' good.
  24. Were you able to get it before or after the new Treads/Betas started getting released? If it was before, I'm almost scared to ask what "relatively cheap" means!
  25. I don't care if it's lacking in articulation; I so WANT this figure : http://rebelscum.com...es/image124.asp More pics of upcoming figs (that I'll never see at retail) here: http://rebelscum.com...r_Wars_Figures/
