  1. Got to watch the film today. It's solid and has its moments. But I can see where it can be meh or disappoint some folks. The whole but whatever. And after reading the posts here, I now understand why a bunch of Kryptonians going at it would result in a buttload of destruction. But after awhile, the massive wanton destruction became a bit repetitive and too desensitizing for me personally. I mean if Supes cares so much about humans why didn't he Minor nit on my part. However, the dad parts worked for me (freakin' Kevin Costner, Americana, and father-son relationships ). And I liked how they tried to make Superman more relatable, showing how his super-senses and him having to constantly hold back wasn't exactly the easiest thing growing up. His "I grew up in Kansas" line also put a sh*t-eating grin on my face. Lastly,
  2. ^^Distribution's been pretty horrid for the Star Wars lines. Just check your local brick and mortar stores. Chances are you'll only see a bunch of figures from the Phantom Menace wave. . . . . which originally came out well over a YEAR ago. I'd happily purchase figures from the Vintage line, but it's absolutely impossible to find them anywhere, unless you wanna pay a premium through eBay. We're already halfway through 2013, and they haven't released ANY new figures for their main/collector-friendly line. They also killed off the Clone Wars line prematurely without making figures from the later seasons of that series. Generally speaking, unless there's a movie involved, Hasbro's distribution has been atrocious/insulting when it comes to Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformer lines.
  3. ^^Yeah, I'm kicking myself that I never saw it, especially since the Order of the Triad is in it.
  4. ^^If they did, they wouldn't be screwing the pooch so royally with their original Star Wars line.
  5. I know I don't really post on this thread (though I do love to gawk at the pics posted here), but what if TFC had gone with a different transformation process for Uranos' F-16 limb? I've been wondering if a transformation process similar to (but not exactly like) the Go-Bot figure Heatseeker would have been feasible. It might have helped to streamline the fighter mode's fuselage a little bit and reduced the whole "wing with robot kibble hanging from the bottom" look. But then again, there'd be massive seamline running through the middle of almost all of the fighter mode.
  6. Apparently, there's was a 30-minute Venture Bros. Halloween episode that's supposed to happen in the middle of this episode. . Can't seem to find the damn thing online for free though. Back to the season premiere:
  7. Wow, it's taken them this long to give us Season 5?! Anyone catch the 1 hour season premiere last Sunday? "YER A BUM, ROCK!"
  8. ^^Nah, this is the message that should be given to Will Smith (pointing out that he's finally become the alien in this scene): Wow. . . . .he passed up Django for THIS.
  9. To paraphrase a Jack Nicholson movie: Forget it, Jenius. It's Lindelof.
  10. A really good friend of mine, who's as big of a Trek fan as me, got to watch a sneak preview of the film last week. He said that as a casual film-goer, he really enjoyed the film. However, he could definitely see how the film would turn off or upset long-time Trek fans. I gave him a link to the spoilers, and he pretty much confirmed that they were accurate. Yeah . . . after getting confirmation that the spoilers are accurate, I ain't paying to see The plot contrivances would just piss me off too much.
  11. So, this is only "tangently" related to Dark Knight Rises. But I found it freakin' hilarious: Kinda wished they had somehow animated the "money=>bear=>bunny" scene at the end of this though.
  12. Okay, I just googled those spoilers. If what they're saying is accurate, I just got one thing to say: LINDELOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Yeah, that'll work. Much more interested in the film now. And CLEARLY, Lois is trying to ask Supes out on a date ("How about. . . soup?").
  14. I wouldn't mind a follow-up animation series to either Resolute or Renegades. And I'm calling it now: the third GI Joe live-action movie is gonna be called GI Joe: Reloaded. It seems like all the recent Joe stuff's been subtitled with words starting with R.
  15. I hate to admit this, but after hundreds upon hundreds of episodes spread across five series and 10 full-length movies over almost 40 years, it would have been hard for someone to make the long-lived Star Trek universe seem fresh. I'm sure folks could come up with stories or ideas to continue the timeline. But if they tried to do another episodic television series, I don't know how the powers-that-be would have been able to sustain it without falling into the same trappings that a lot of the later series fell into. I swear I have almost a Pavlovian RAGE response to the phrase "Shields down to X percent" (or worse, "Hull plating down to 3 percent!!" ). As soon as a post-Enterprise series used that phrase or gave us episodes that felt like stories we've already seen in previous series, I would have walked away from the franchise completely. Voyager annoyed me for constantly pissing away any potential it had and never taking any sort of risks storywise. And Enterprise eventually became a chore to watch, so I just stopped following it somewhere around the Xindi arc. My point is that after Enterprise got cancelled, I wouldn't have minded if they let the franchise lay fallow for 10 years or so. Simply put, I got burned out with all the meh Star Trek being spewed out then and wasn't in any rush to see anything new out of the franchise. However, Paramount saw things differently, allowed JJ to the reboot the franchise, and the reboot has become quite popular. As I've been saying, the reboot ain't something I personally like. But I just don't understand why some fans feel so threatened by the reboot.
  16. After over-doing it in the last wanna-be Joe film, I didn't mind that they pared it down and made the action a little more nitty and gritty in Retaliation. Joe's shooting ish, getting up close and personal with the enemies, and doing coordinated military attacks: I can live with this stuff. Granted, it'd be nice to see an all-out battle between Cobra and the Joes with their signature vehicles, but I don't want them to go overboard with a CGI glutton-fest. BTW, is Hasbro gonna releash a Lady Jaye three-pack (covert workout get-up, red dress, post-red dress outfit)?
  17. ^^Holy crap! He's dead?! Didn't he put Bischoff in a Figure Four in another Nitro episode? Kid died way too soon.
  18. In fairness, they did have three HiSS tanks in that vehicle battle. And there were a couple of small boats/hovercrafts going at it too. Also, there was the Rattler-looking dropships the Joes used near the beginning and the Cobra-sponsored helicopters (Apaches? ) that proved the importance of air superiority in an attack. And if all else fails, just remember myk: Ninja vs. Ninja/Commando throw-down.
  19. Maybe it was the fact that B5 moved to TNT (and I was usually not home around the time it aired), but I never really got into Season 5 of B5. I got a little tired of Delenn's constant "Oh John"s, and I don't think we ever got a scene where Sheridan got knocked down a peg or two or was proven wrong about anything. Don't get me wrong: B5 had some jaw-droppingly good moments. But DS9 was pretty stinkin' good too. Those were some good science fiction years when those two shows were on the air.
  20. Just got back from watching the movie. Understand, I'm a HUGE fan of GI Joe, more so the Larry Hama comic run than anything else. While the film definitely has some good moments, it was just a little too cheesy for my tastes. I think the background music choices were a little too over-the-top (way too over-dramatic) and some of the "serious" dialogue comes off as really hokey. As a fan, the film gets certain things right about the Joe "mythos," but it somehow still feels "off." You see Jinx and Snake Eyes training together, but the exposition spoken during those scenes was seriously eye-roll inducing. A few other comments: * I hate to admit it, but it's a good thing this film was held back until now. It would have gotten killed when compared to Dark Knight Rises and Avengers. * Cobra Commander's sporting the traditional faceplate, but we get the hokey moustache-twirling villian of the 80's cartoons, not the dangerous and worthy adversary of the comics. * Storm Shadow steals most of the scenes he's in. * You get to gawk at Adrianne Palicki more than a few times. * The action sequences are alright and solid (the military teamwork scenes come to mind and Ninja Throwing Stars vs. Uzi FTW!! ) and nothing so annoying as the accelerator suits or nano-crap. * Surprisingly, some of the best scenes are when Channing Tatum and the Rock are totally sh*t-talking one another. As much as I wanted this film to kick ass, I can only give it a half-hearted "Meh, it's okay." The Resolute and Renegades cartoons are still a better representation of what I like about GI Joe. Retaliation is definitely better than the first so-called GI Joe film, but I kinda wish it was more than that. I can see the effort put into it, but it just didn't come together as well as I had hoped.
  21. We've been seeing shades of why the clones were so brutal with Order 66 (Pong Krell wiped the floor with a bunch of 'em. Ahsoka was able to elude them, making it almost damn impossible to capture her alive. And there was a teaser scene for Season 6 on starwars.com that showed a clone getting faulty/glitchy and shooting a random Jedi from behind.). I'd still like to see what happened to Rex (as Appo is running the 501st clones when Anakin/Vader marches into the temple). Hell, like Graham is always harping about, I'd like to see more Clone-centric stories. And more signs to Anakin's downfall or more episodes showing the toll the war is taking on the Jedi's psyche would be fine with me too. Believe me, I'm a bigger fan of the Genndy Tartakovsky clone wars series. And there were definitely moments that royally pissed me off with this version. But there have been stand-out moments with this series too, and I believe it deserved another season to tie up most of its loose ends. Again, it's not like this series was struggling or unpopular. Why not transfer it over to a Disney channel and milk it for one more season?
  22. Duke, my comments were aimed at JetJockey's post. Anytime someone says that they stopped watching DS9 after "In the Pale Moonlight," I feel compelled to respond. But it seems that you want to bring DS9 into this JJ Trek movie argument (which wasn't the point of my post). If that's the case, let me just make one quick point regarding your "No one has heard of Deep Space Nine" comment: Popularity does not necessarily equal Quality. Believe me, most DS9 fans know the series isn't consider anywhere close to being the most popular. But as you can see from the posts in this thread, it was a damn good, quality show. I'll concede that the Star Trek franchise was already run ragged by the time JJ took over. And he has renewed popular interest in the Star Trek franchise. But the point of my original post was that just because someone doesn't like the new rebooted movies doesn't mean they can no longer enjoy the many various Trek TV series out there already. And vice versa, if someone doesn't care for the various Trek TV series, that shouldn't take away from whatever enjoyment they get from the rebooted movies. And if someone comes away enjoying the rebooted movies and is curious to check out some of the previous TV series, even better.
