  1. Just got back from watching it. Best way to describe the film: Stupid Fun !! Half the time I'm just staring at the screen in disbelief. . . but in a good way. There's a nice balance of cheese, snark, and coolness throughout. That first off-Earth scene really sets the tone for the rest of the film. Kudos to Marvel for pulling this one off. . . . . . . And I SO want Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 and 2! Lotta fun scenes I could reference, but I absolutely loved the "No Raccoons or Tree Creatures were harmed in the making of this film." tag at the end of the credits!
  2. Though, I never understood why the Stealth Valk would be sporting honkin' loud, yellow-tipped nukes.
  3. Just one, huh? I guess I'll go with the bastard on the right, pulling off an Immelmann turn:
  4. I seriously doubt that last part above. That beech color is probably just some veneer Ikea slaps on as a finishing touch. There can't be that much of a price difference between putting a black/brown veneer on the Detolf versus putting the beech colored one. Regardless, I'm still pissed off about Ikea's decision. But if I ever decide to expand the displays, I'll give Duymon's mix-and-match look a try.
  5. ^^I've been checking the Ikea-US website since probably early February. Bastards haven't once offered the beech effect Detolf at all. The wifey wanted a Detolf for her collectible stuff, but she wanted one that matched mine. I originally got the beech Detolf since it matched the color of my desk and the other furniture here in the office/nursery. Needless to say, Ikea's decision on this still pisses me off.
  6. Just got back from watching the film. It was pretty solid and enjoyable. There's things you can definitely nitpick, but I liked it enough. A few spoilery observations: Unfortunately, it's at the absolute bloody end of the credits. For the curious, most comic-book fans can figure out who's in the after-credit scenes. But here's a hint (and something you might miss if you're not paying attention): it involves. . . Lastly, I've always considered X2 to be the best of the X-Men films. That awesome opening scene, Wolvie truly cutting loose at the X-mansion (first time in any film where they showed Wolverine to be a hard-ass killer), all the little "burning bird" references. It's easily one of the rare films where the sequel exceeds in all ways the original film. I liked First Class, but I still consider X2 to be the better film.
  7. The (almost all) Good: The Bad: And the Family:
  8. More like: I also liked: "Look at me. I'm dressed like I live under a bridge!" And for some silly reason: "Stupid, stupid, stupid!! And very cruel! And very STUPID!!" If there's one word to describe this season finale, it was FUN. Between the silly banter, it was just a fun ep. Silly theory: The next time we see Ward, if he still has that facial scar running down his cheek, he's a bad guy. If it's gone? Good guy again. Long-shot gamble: Between all the talk of evolution that Raina mentions in this episode and the "miracles" that will be showing up in Age of Ultron (around the time Agents of Shield is winding up Season 2), I'm guessing Skye ain't a Kree or Kree hybrid, but rather a MUTANT (or the Marvel-verse's equivalent of mutants/"miracles"/"those born with special powers").
  9. Getting back to the show, one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet: that was some cold-blooded, gangsta-type sh*t Fitz pulled off
  10. I know it's got its flaws, but I'm still quite happy with the Big Burly Beta. Yeah, the hips easily slide outward. Yes, it's a bit gappy in solo bomber mode. And I would have loved for them to have added the pop-out shoulder missiles. But it's got ratchet joints galore. It's got a decent A-stance in battloid mode. And it's a fun piece to pose. If we're talking about a wider, splayed out A-stance in gerwalk mode, I could understand the benefit of having twisting knee joints. But as is, it's got a decent enough amount of articulation to get some fun poses out of it. And. . . . dogs are far superior to cats.
  11. ^^Given the limited options around Los Angeles, I'd guess he landed the plane near Long Beach Municipal Airport, (got a few dozen cans of black spraypaint to hide the SHIELD logo), and prayed to God that no one would notice an over-customized C-17. (In reality, Boeing manufactures the C-17 out of Long Beach, CA, though production of the birds is starting to wind down). When we saw I too liked that ending reaction from Coulson. They're definitely paying off with all the character moments too. Even the little bits with were fun. Glad to see everyone's competence on the team getting shown off. One bit that bothered me though:
  12. At this point, it doesn't surprise me. I'll wait and see how the movie turns out, but the net cumulative effect of all these announcements have been to set my expectations extremely low. It just annoys me that this announcement pretty much confirms that certain figures will NEVER get made in the Hasbro line now.
  13. Gerwalk's alright. It's just that you need to bust out an A-stance and preferably a display stand to make it really pop in its poses. Curious though, how many people prefer the "Gerwalk without the arms swung out" look?
  14. ^^Regardless, it's gonna be fun to see how this story unfolds for the rest of the season. I think I'm in denial too. Especially,
  15. One observation that I didn't pick up on (until I thought more about it this morning): So, the billion dollar questions: On a related tangent, I like the theory someone [RedWolf] posted in the Winter Soldier thread about the possible identity of the Clairvoyant. Makes a hell of a lot of sense. Lastly, at least in we found one Hydra operative that isn't a complete and utter douche-bag tool.
  16. ^^Which one? That ending just shook EVERYTHING up! And
  17. I had read some of the negative criticisms/reviews of the movie (and I can agree that the early action sequences could've have been filmed a bit better), but damn did this movie kick ass!! They definitely upped the ante and delivered in this film. I absolutely enjoyed all the witty banter going about A few other comments from my late-night viewing: * I wonder if Tarantino got a kick out of seeing that gravestone? I think I was the only idiot in the theater that laughed his ass off when he saw it. * Can't wait to watch the fall-out from all this on Agents of SHIELD. * Lastly, there's two post-credit end scenes: one in the middle of the credits and one at the very end.
  18. Thanks for the tips and pointers, guys. I'll hold off on giving him the chunky-monkey for now. With the limited display space I have nowadays, I just wanted to find a way (excuse) to utilize the toy. . . . . Guess I'll find some other ways to start indoctrinating the boy in the ways of Macross!
  19. Bill Paxton's Agent Garrett is definitely a fun recurring character to have around. ("Nah, we're gonna knock." BOOM!!) A few other misc. items from this week's ep: * The inner comic book nerd in me got a kick out of the Canadian Department H reference. * One minor nit: I get it. Ward <HEART> Skye. You think the umpteen scenes that implied it could have made it any more obivious?
  20. Nice to see some of the storylines starting to pay off. Even that no-name agent that got pwn'ed by Deathlok got a few moments to shine.
  21. I have a question for all you proud Macross parents out there. I have a son who will be turning 3 in a couple of months, and I have a Bandai Re-release Roy that I won't be displaying any time soon. What would be the earliest/most appropriate age to let my son have claim the 1/55 Chunky-Monkey as his own? I'm pretty sure that, if I give it to him now, the boy will be constantly ask ME to transform it, saying, "Robot? Robot?" and then, "Plane? Plane?" (And yes, I know I'll have to correct him: "No, not robot. BATTROID" ). But I'm almost certain that if I give it to him now, that Chunky-Monkey is gonna suffer some significant damage at his hands (missing arm, lost heatshield, broken parts, etc.). Any advice or personal anecdotes you all can share?
  22. It's fun to see the episodes again (even if it is dubbed). There's definitely some standout moments in the first season that I'm itchin' to see again (the defiant middle finger, Revy's soliloquy over a skull, Episode 7, "Your shoelaces are untied."). But I'm secretly hoping Toonami/Adult Swim airs Second Barrage too. That took the series to a whole new level of greatness.
  23. ^^Yeah, I had to pause my DVR for that one too. I think they also sneaked in some bits of Ant-Man in action too.
