There are plenty of anime mecha that use pistons. Look at the designs from Patlabor and Gasaraki, the cutaways of the Scopedog and even the Studio Nue version of the Starship Troopers powered suit. And you don't think mecha in anime have an "industrial" look to them? Maybe if you're judging by Mazinger-Z. The troopers in the Starship Troopers movies still use bullets. I don't see a problem with them using hydraulics.

Where have you been? http://www.playboy.com/girls/celebrities/f...cia-helfer.html -
I believe Heinlein refers to it as looking like an "armored gorilla." That image of the design from the movie looks a little better, but still not great. If it's powered suit-sized, I can't see how somebody's legs would fit into it. Maybe it's much bigger and the pilot sits in the chest.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III

D'anna was boxed long after the exodus from New Caprica, when all of the survivors from the human race were consolidated into one group again. Also, she would have no way of knowing if any of the final five cylons that were revealed to her were killed during the time she was boxed. As shown by her concern during the standoff with Lee, I think this was too important to her to lie about. When she said that there were only four in the fleet, she meant it, which means that either 1) she was aware that the fifth was on the base star with her, or 2) there's something extra-special about the fifth (like they're being kept in some other storage facility that's never been mentioned or they exist as something non-corporeal or something else). Option #2 is much less satisfying. I don't like it when writers keep dumping in additional backstory to delay revelations that they've been promising. "Oh, yeah, what we didn't tell you is that there's something even _more_ different about that final cylon, because they can exist in vacuum and it's just been walking around on Galactica's hull for three years." So, my top three candidates as of now: - Baltar - Roslyn (D'anna never really recanted what she said about her being a cylon.) - The base star's Hybrid (this one would really be out of left field) -

How? If that was the case, D'anna would have said that there were five in the fleet, not four. -

I posted this on another board, where we were trying to figure out what the "Robotech Blueprint" was: Plot/Story: - The "big picture" involves a war between aliens and humans. - Inter-character and individuals' internal conflicts come from having to deal with the personal consequences of the war. - Even though the humans and aliens use robotic military vehicles, the plot must not revolve around this aspect or highlight it too strongly. The genre of original shows that Robotech was based on was about de-romanticizing giant robots and the story must stay true to that spirit. - The plot should, however, involve "Protoculture" (however the movie chooses to define what this is). - During the course of events, at least one human and one alien must fall in love with one another, showing that we really aren't that different after all. Theme: - War is a bad thing, but in situations like this, a necessary thing, and something that humans are quick (and some of us perhaps even eager) to adapt to. Setting: - Where: The story must start on Earth or in our Solar System. - When: The future, not more than 100 years or so from now. Characters: - There should be a mix of military and non-military types. - One character must be a singer. I ran all five segments of animated Robotech (Macross Saga, Southern Cross, New Generation, Sentinels, and Shadow Chronicles) through the rules and they all seem to pass. Anything I missed? -

I'll have to look again for the cross. Judging from the ruins, and what we already saw on Kobol, I thought it was the building that Apollo was looking at in their holy book at the beginning of the episode. She could have also been apologizing to Anders. She did try to kill him, after all. She even made a game of it. If that was the case, then D'anna would have said that there were five in the fleet, because there's no way she could have known that Cally was dead. -

Okay, I'm running with this. Ladies and gentlemen, here it is, my epic Battlestar Galactica/Terminator Fanfic Setting: America, in present day time. A killer is about to be executed. As he's being walked to the gas chamber, he signs a paper allowing his body to be donated to science. SCIENCE! FLASH FORWARD TO... THE FUTURE. Anti-Skynet forces are attacking a Terminator bunker. The Terminators bug out just as the humans are about to overrun them, and when the humans get inside, BOOM. The thing blows up. All of the humans are killed, but a lone figure crawls out of the wreckage, and it's... THE GUY WHO WE SAW IN THE INTRO, THE DUDE WHO WAS EXECUTED. You see, apparently when he signed over his body to science, a company took his brain, put it in a Terminator-type body, then put his old skin over the Terminator body. Makes sense, right? (Seriously, keep reading, this gets better.) Anyway, some stuff happens. The death row guy hooks up with the reistance, and John Connor, and then in a freak accident, JOHN CONNOR DIES. Only a couple of people know this, though, so in order to keep the legend alive, they strip off Death Row Dude's skin and put John Connor's on him. Dun dun DUN!!! Oh, yeah, and Baltar turns out to be the last of the final five. And there are cylons and a space battle, and then everybody weeps over Kat's photograph in the hallway. The end. Oh, I mean, uh, TO BE CONTINUED... -

The only characters that aren't dead and that were on the base star that I can come up with are Hot Dog and Seelix, and that would be pretty unsatisfying. Having it be a dead character like Cally or Billy would be problematic in other ways, too. -

I'm really not considering comments from the producer about a photo shoot for an entertainment magazine. If he was talking about the symbolism of Tricia Helfer's Playboy pictorial would you assign as much importance to it? And even if the photo shoot meant something, can you come up with a list of people that 1) aren't in that picture, and 2) weren't in the colonial fleet at the time D'anna said that four of the five were in the fleet? -

Who do you think would be a candidate? The only time when anyone could have been separated from the fleet was during the exodus from New Caprica, and the producers have always ensured that every major and minor character, right down to Laird (who appeared in the mid-season finale) has been accounted for somehow or killed off. I think the arrow still points strongly to Baltar, D'anna is just being capricious about revealing it. -

D'anna made it a point to say that there were four in the fleet. She could have been implying that the fifth was on the base star. Which means that Roslyn, Baltar, or Helo could be candidates (although my money's on Hot Dog). Nuclear weapons normally have a half-life of decades, not centuries or millenia, right? If so, the destruction of Earth may not have happened that long ago. -
Did you know that there was a Starship Troopers 3 movie coming? Did you know that there are going to be powered suits in it? Did you know that there are going to be toys of them? Would you like to know more? http://starship3.jp/news.html (Yuck.)

You're sad because they don't get to go home and enjoy things that they've bought? How about feeling bad because they're never going to share another meal with their families, or walk on a beach, or celebrate a birthday? Yours is a classic otaku response if I ever saw one.

Ah, according to Battlestar Wiki, it is the wedding ring from his previous marriage and apparently the character has always worn it. Interesting. -

Yeah, I'm not clear on that, either. Maybe the hub has additional computers or equipment that make it essential to have all of the resurrection ships rely on it. Some machinery that was too complex or costly to build into each individual resurrection ship. So what's with the ring that Adama put on Roslyn's finger after she died? Have they demonstrated before that he wears the wedding band from his previous marriage? -

I'm glad I got an answer about the Athena/Boomer mind transfer. They can do it when they download. Cool. Have the centurions always had that spinning thing in their chest, or was this one just lighted differently this time around? -

The Matchbox Scout is just a smaller version of the Shock Trooper, and it's the wrong color (red). If only they did it in purple. ;p -
Yeah, I don't know if "strong-armed" fits the case at all. Revell figured out that the models they planned on selling had corresponding shows that were being licensed by Harmony Gold, and vice-versa. IIRC, Carl Macek was asked about it last year on the Space Station Liberty talk show and said that it was an idea that both companies came up with simultaneously. Harmony Gold definitely got the better end of that deal, because they ended up getting the Robotech trademark from Revell. Also, I don't believe any of the toys Revell imported (like the Robolinks, etc.) came from Takatoku, did they? I know that the models they brought over were sold in Japan by Arii, Imai, L&S, and Takara, and I believe Revell didn't even make deals with those parent companies or the owners of the intellectual properties those models were based on. I thought that they were just purchasing the kits straight from the manufacturing companies (which was the same thing that got FASA in trouble with the Battletech designs).
