Spider-Man: Homecoming, in theaters July 7, 2017
Kanedas Bike replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The comics weren't selling well before the changes. Either way, the change in question was a very small part of this Spider-Man movie. We'll just have to see how it plays out in future films - but if it's not for you then it's not for you. All good. -b.- 266 replies

Spider-Man: Homecoming, in theaters July 7, 2017
Kanedas Bike replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Marvel has made a concerted efforts in comics to diversify their heroes and/or shake the status quo. Spider-Man (Ultimate) Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Hawkeye, and probably more that I don't know of and I can see them extending those efforts to the MCU past Nick Fury. When those types of changes are made, to iconic characters no less, including the one I think we're talking about, it's bound to show. There's no hiding it. IMHO I don't see Marvel tooting its horn about it, just a change to an icon in the Spider-Man mythos - one that you can't help but see - whether that be in the beginning, middle or end of the movie. Not trying to argue or anything, and I don't fault you or anyone else for not liking the change(s) but I give credit for Marvel/Sony Spider-Man for trying to differentiate themselves from Sony Spider-Man and 5 other movies. -b.- 266 replies

That's not necessarily a bad thing. What the F - the whole audience broke out into laughter. But yes, to your point everyone in the MCU might as well wear name badges when they go into battle. -b.- 266 replies

Just came back from seeing it, I thought it was fun. I enjoyed it a lot more than Spider-Man 1 through 3 which I thought were way too campy, for my tastes anyway. And It wasn't as tragic as the Amazing Spider-Man films. While I didn't mind, I would agree with some of the criticism leveled at the 'surprise' supporting character. Guess we just have to wait and see how that character evolves in future movies. The movie was fun without being campy and it had enough bits of emotion without being tragic and it made it an incredibly enjoyable Spider-Man movie. Of course YMMV, as evidenced by the differing points of view already offered. -b.- 266 replies

Artists or designers you follow on Twitter or Instagram?
Kanedas Bike replied to hachi's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
^No Twitter for me, I'm very afraid that I wouldn't have anything witty or clever enough to share with the masses. lol Instagram beats all social media (besides this forum) because generally speaking I don't have much to say to people that I don't know personally and Facebook I only use for Messenger. Just let me look at the very nice pics, hit a like button, and move on. -b.- 33 replies

Hey, sorry for the very late reply. It's allowed, I know you can link at least two Instagram accounts or user names and just toggle between the two. It's pretty easy to set up and switch between the two and completely okay within the rules. -b.- 33 replies

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017 film)
Kanedas Bike replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Never saw/wanted to see the first one, but the trailer for this one does look like a pretty fun of popcorn-flick. Not likely to see it in the theatre but really positive word of mouth could convince me to buy it on Blu Ray. If not then I'll catch it on cable or Netflix. -b.- 16 replies

It all comes down to personal preference, like everything else. As a kid I loved The Transformers: The Movie and I mostly enjoy it as an adult. And I am able to glean some enjoyment from the live action movies, it's hard because IMO the scripts have been pretty bad and while I can wholeheartedly accept these are interpretations of characters that I know from the 80's cartoon some of those interpretations are bad against historical representations (looking at Murderoptimus Prime). One would argue that the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies are much better, even Into Darkness, when compared against Bay's Transformers, but it's all personal preference and bias towards what we loved as kids or young adults. I bring up Star Trek because I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) you've been a pretty strong critic against those movies, which is perfectly fine. I love the original series, most of the Next Generation-era shows and movies AND the Abrams films. Just personal preference. The key phrase here is "none of us" - which I interpret as those of us that grew up with 80's Transformers. I would recommend chatting with the kids and teens or those that have grown up with Bay's Transformers and I would be willing to bet that they will hold these movies in much higher regard because this is what they know. Not the 80's cartoons - and if we're really honest with ourselves weren't very good. At least not to me when I've tried to watch an episode or two as a 20, 30 and now 40-something adult. My post isn't intended to defend Transformers, it's just to try to add some perspective to the conversation. -b.

Max VF-1S Yes, I know Arcadia hasn't released one, nor have they announced it. But I'm a rebel and I'm putting it into the universe so that Arcadia does. -b.

Well...I paid. lol/sigh And 10,000% agreed that The Transformers:The Movie is still better than all of the live action films. Might have to do that. I find myself after watching this and being mildly annoyed at the 'nods' to the 86 movie in The Last Knight, but I can say that this wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Likely the result of very low expectations. Don't get me wrong, if you didn't like any of the others you will NOT in any way like this. It's the just more of the same and despite 3 or 4 cool sequences the movie overall was very much what every negative review has said. I'm still not in favor of a reboot, I'd just love to see these exact characters handled by people that actually like Transformers and care about the movie that they're making. The fact that this it the first live action Transformers movie that I've gone to where the theatre was not packed bodes well for Bay not wanting to make any more since this one is not likely to have the same US box office as the other releases. My fingers crossed that he does not return to the franchise. Ever. -b.

Re: V as in Victory...okay. I'm only familiar with 80's and 90's US Transformer cartoons. And re-write away sir. lol I'm with you on reboots, I'm not a huge fan. I think they are an 'easy' button to try and rectify movies that have gone off the rails. A la Fantastic Four which I hear is in line for yet another one. *bangs head on desk* I don't want them to stop making TF movies, I just want someone who cares about the property to handle the movies. As you've said and we've all seen creative teams that genuinely like and or respect what they're working on turn out some really good, really fun movies. -b.

Not ashamed to admit that I bought 'Light of the Seven' on iTunes when I heard it during the opening scenes of The Winds of Winter. It's an awesome song and it fits perfectly with the second trailer for S7. -b.- 316 replies

Didn't know that Tenjin had Instagram to be honest. I have two accounts, one for friends/family and to follow photographers that I like (either by name or that I stumble across) and the other is my 'toy' account for all of my collectibles and true nerdery. -b.- 33 replies

Solo: A Star Wars Story, in theaters May 25, 2018
Kanedas Bike replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Dunno about that, I honestly thought The Force Awakens was a good movie. Yeah there were some cringe-y dialogue moments but other than John Boyega who was very guilty of over-acting all of the actors did well. I also thought it was heads and tails better than every single Prequel and better than a New Hope (derivative or not) and Return of the Jedi, I won't touch comparisons to Empire because that's sacrilege to SW fans. IMO Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were the only strong actors in the OT. 'Creative differences' usually spells disaster and I think we got lucky with Rogue One. Hopefully things work out for Solo because he's one of my favorite Star Wars characters too. ^And Ron Howard directing would be interesting...and yep, fingers crossed for sure. -b. -
For sure it'll make a lot, but I think with audiences coming off of Wonder Woman and how good/smart that movie was audiences might be a bit more discerning. Hopefully. If this was released around a time when there were no genuinely good action/sci-fi blockbusters then I suspect this would make tons more $$$ and Bay would absolutely come back for more. This is like the 3rd or 4th time Bay has said he'd stop directing and I hope and pray that's true. Too soon for a reboot and even though Hollywood has fallen head-over-heels-stupid-in-love with reboots. I think it'd be a bad idea to do it since they're pretty established with 5 films and an existing fanbase for them. There's enough cannon, such as it is, with the current TF live action movies that a new director with a fresh vision could do wonders with the franchise. -b.

This is the 5th one. Count em down boys...Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon, Age of Extinction and...The Last Knight. Wouldn't be surprised if this one doesn't make a gazillion dollars like the others. Which is a damn good thing, it'll force Bay out and get someone with new ideas into the franchise. We all know this is going to be bad, just a matter of if there is enough cool CGI action sprinkled to make you temporarily forget how bad. -b.

For the price point of around $ 100 I'd agree with the other members and go with the Hi Metal R. Although not a personal favorite of mine because of their small size and smaller parts I'll give credit where credit is due and agree that they're nice little figures. https://hlj.com/product/BANN11262 You should check out Spanner's current Sales Thread - he's got some used Yamato Valkyries that have been panel lined. A couple of items are a shade under $200 but when you factor shipping from Australia I think they're a good deal if you want something in a larger scale. -b.
