I'm excited, I think (read hope) Disney will do a good job managing the property and honestly some new creative blood injected in a new live-action Star Wars movie or movies wouldn't be a bad thing. Especially given that this was something Lucas wanted to do and wasn't some ham-fisted takeover of the property. -b.

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
Kanedas Bike replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You misunderstand the intent of me asking those questions, I wasn't asking how she got pregnant, why she didn't explain why she showed up bloody, etc. etc. as an audience member, I'm very capable of getting the "why's and how's" in the movie - and I "got it/paid attention" when I saw the movie in the theater. My point was only to ask why the characters didn't ask, and in them not asking made the characters, IMO, not very smart. That's all. And again, I'm not at all trying to dissect the movie, it's plot or intent, just that it's really, really hard to even care about the overall themes because other elements (characters) detract from the big picture. Also disappointed that the deleted and extended scenes didn't help the intellect level, and in many cases made characters like Holloway, seem even less intelligent (and like an insensitive drunken ass in one scene). But hey, those that like it - cool. Those that don't - cool. And those like me that are middle-of-the-road - cool. *edit for formatting issues -b. -
Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
Kanedas Bike replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's all good and well, but the observation remains that the characters acted in a way that was very counter-intuitive to the type of intellectual savants you'd think would be on the crew of a trillion dollar ship/expedition let alone to basic survival instincts (let's play with the ominous alien snake/worm thing while lost and separated from our only save haven, Prometheus) doesn't mean I, or others don't track the high-level concepts the movie put forth. My opinion remains that child/parent, god/creation relationships and motivations built around those assumptions aside, the characters and the way that they acted in the situations they were placed in were either DUMB or poorly written. I mean hell, Shaw just had an emergency alien c-section and she didn't even tell anyone! One could possibly assume that when she showed up in Weyland's quarters in only her Victoria Secrets covered in blood that a conversation occurred off-screen about why. But the way the characters continued to act by going straight to "converse" with the Engineer with not even a passing mention of the alien baby in the emergency medical pod or the events that led up to that is just asinine. How did she get pregnant? How did Baby Holloway get infected? How did Geologist guy turn into a mutant monster? Is this place a military installation? What is this places true purpose? What killed the Engineers? What were they running from? Etc., etc., etc. You had characters that either didn't ask those questions or any of the other thousand logical questions one would ask to try and determine if their own safety was in jeopardy or those that did just shrugged it off while everyone went on their merry way. Child-like motivations or emotional state or not, the lack of rational thought or reasoning was astounding. And I don't agree or disagree with your interpretations, I say again that the character's were so stupid that it made it very hard to concentrate on the ideas the filmmakers tried to present because said stupidity was so distracting. -b. -

You know, I had to give my F and S a second look. The tint definitely shows more in your pictures, but you (or speaking for myself, I) can barely see the tint in person. I don't have a VF-25G so I can't comment on how pronounced the canopy tint is in person vs. the pictures. So I guess I should say I wish the tint was more visible. -b. -

Very cool. I always think about customizing, but I'm waaaayyyy to nervous. And considering the availability of the VF-25 v2 there's no way I'm gonna risk messing one up. I wish that Bandai had used the purple canopy on the F and S, I think it looks much better than the clear canopies. -b. -

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
Kanedas Bike replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Pushed myself thru another couple of viewings of Prometheus on Blu-ray. It really was a beautifully shot movie but the characters, the characters were so stupid that they were distracting from the entirety of the movie. Someone mentioned screen-flare in Star Trek as distracting from the film, that's analogous to how I feel about the characters in this film. I couldn't even try to contemplate all of what Ridley was trying to do with the film because of how impossibly, incredibly, insanely stupid all of the characters were. Not even the deleted and extend scenes could redeem the asinine decisions the characters made time after time. I'm no film snob, I love all manner of D, C, B and "big-budget" flicks, but it's really hard to find much to enjoy about the script/story/characters in Prometheus. If a sequel does make it to theaters my one hope is that the characters are intelligently written. If that happens then on the strength of that alone I'd be satisfied. -b. -
Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
Kanedas Bike replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Agreed. VF1A-Fan, you should post more of your 1/6 collection, it looks like you have some other cool pieces in the background. -b. -
As way-too-early first impressions go, the suit I can deal with, the DPD cruiser is what I don't like. -b.

I must have had a double-shot of Haterade today ( / ) because all I can think about is how pissed I am my Macross Frontier collection (boxed) doesn't look like that. But yeah sucks about the damage/loss. -b.

Finished Leviathan, initial impression is the DLC was both too short and too easy (at least w a Level 60 Shepard and Level 10 weapons). Thought it added some interesting elements to the Mass Effect mythos but it could have used more content. I could see the combat being challenging for those with lower level characters and/or weapons, but all in all I finished it feeling kind of "meh". Hopefully more DLC's to come with this one being analogous to Firewalker or Overlord (the two weakest DLC's for ME2 IMHO) and the newer DLC comparable to Lair of the Shadow Broker and/or The Arrival. -b.

So...it sounds like if one is to use the Armor Parts, keep the 25 in fighter mode. Or is there risk (outside of paint chips or minor cosmetic damage) there as well? -b.

Yamato 1/60 Super/Strike parts + Option parts reissue
Kanedas Bike replied to Swoosh's topic in Toys
Lucky, all my purchases have come via internet. To this day I wish I had a close friend or family member, or better yet the means to travel and pick up all the cool stuff I want. And that first hunt, it's what led me to Macross World to begin with. -b.- 275 replies

Re: EDI, you'll be happy with the first parts of Leviathan. I've been taking my time only playing a little here and there so I don't know how much time she'll eventually have. I found her along with a few other ME Characters that didn't make it pretty interesting and thought it sucked that I couldn't reconcile them living or dieing with the ending I wanted. Hopefully with future waves we'll see a Liara and EDI, they'd also be must buys. -b.

So any first impressions of Leviathan? I keep comparing it to Shadow Broker, which I loved, mostly because I was instantly drawn into the story and content. So far I'm not as impressed, or engrossed, with this one. And on a cooler note I just got my payment notice from AmiAmi for Play Arts Kai Shepard, Ashley (mine lived, Kaiden sucked and deserved to be nuked ) and Garrus. -b.

Yamato 1/60 Super/Strike parts + Option parts reissue
Kanedas Bike replied to Swoosh's topic in Toys
It's the toy that got me into the Macross toy universe. I still remember seeing the Toycom ads in comic books back in the day, remember my disappointment in the constant delays and eventual cancellation and how I got my first Yamato off of Yahoo! Auctions (the US site) for around $ 75 shipped. On topic I'll probably skip these VF-1 Super/Strike part sets, again, never really saw the need. I prefer the bundles and not every VF-1 I buy needs additional armor or parts. -b.- 275 replies

Just got the shipping notice for a set of Alto Armor parts. Paid more than what I would have liked, but less than what I've seen on eBay. Still looking for Ozma's, which judging by after-market prices and general lack of availability, so is everyone else. With regard to display/play options I prefer Alto with Super Parts, followed by Tornado Parts (hope Bandai releases for the Renewal DX's) as a close second with the Armor Parts as third place. Ozma should only be seen in Armor. -b.

GOOD. -b. -
Saw it, enjoyed it for what it was, another late-summer popcorn flick and for that it delivered. Character development and plot/scripting issues aside what really nagged on me was the architecture, I kept wondering how the hell all those buildings were able to stand and/or be built on top of each other, seemingly suspended from nowhere. Eh. Matinee or rental for anyone on the fence, worth seeing if you like action, effects, Kate and/or Jessica. -b.

Then that makes two. I was 8 or so when GI Joe, Star Wars and Transformers first hit toy shelves and with the exception of the Joes I always hated how un-poseable or inaccurate the others were to their screen counterparts. I own only one, 1/55 scale Valkyrie, a Bandai Strike and I only got that because it was one my holy-grails. I was and am so happy with the Yamato releases and now Bandai that emphasize accuracy and perfect transformation. For me they've satisfied a "want" I've had since I was a kid and watched the show that shall not be named and I saw the VF-1 in action. Regarding the OP's question on what's best for a young child, the 1/55 by far. They are built like bricks and none of the newer Yamato or Bandai offerings will provide the type of pure playability for a young child, prone to drop the toy, hard transformations or fireworks. It's like a Lego Duplo set vs. a Lego Millennium Falcon set. -b.
