The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Kanedas Bike replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thank you both - I guess I didn't realize that I was asking such a loaded question, sorry for tossing that out there without more details. That said, I was thinking G1/ 86 Movie Hot Rod in the "style" of Masterpiece line. I've been impressed with the Flame Toys Optimus so I'll probably look to pick up their Kuro Kara Kuri iteration if/when that's available for preorder. -b.- 9240 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

Those Junkions do look good. I'm not at all into the 3P releases for Transformers (or even Takara for that matter), so can anyone make any recommendations on a really good 3P Hot Rod release - old, new or upcoming? -b.- 9240 replies

DX Chogokin YF-29 (Alto) Durandal Valkyrie - Reissue
Kanedas Bike replied to joppewo's topic in Toys
MWF is my reprieve from the real world and this weekend/past week leading up to it have been brutal. I'd actually forgotten about this, fell asleep with computers, lights, TV and PS4 on and woke up drooling and 1/2 way off of my bed at 3:04 AM EST. Just in time to have missed the initial window and then fail at getting one from HLJ. I'll try my luck again between now and release, with more effort being placed right at the release window. -b. -
Well, I know that interaction you're referring to. Preorder nights don't elicit the most positive emotions, especially if a person can't secure an order. When I read that it felt like there was some back history that I wasn't aware of, but my hope is that you two can find common ground and hug it out, or just avoid each other and live happily ever after. And for sure, even when I don't agree with a statement or two on the boards, I just chalk it up to different people with differing opinions and ways of looking at things. Live and let live. Especially within the context that we all pretty much enjoy the same things, toys, movies, books, etc. Essentially the things that bring us together should be stronger than those that would move us apart. -b.

Y'all are on one today! You have to POST about Nippon-Yasan three times, that's the summoning ritual. -b.

Oh man, you almost got me in trouble on a Teams meeting I was just having. Burst out laughing and thank GOD, my mic was muted. Say it louder for the collectors in the back! Personally I can't stand it, but once I'm able to move past my initial annoyance I put things in exactly that perspective. "I'll get my stuff eventually". But that said, I don't even look to N-Y for orders these days, not even for exclusives. I'm not cool with how they're running their store so I'm speaking with my wallet. Once I get my DX SSP, SH Figuarts Final Battle Iron Man, Rescue, Captain America, and my Premium 0D I'll not use them at all for pre-orders. Not even mad at you, I think if you're a patient person/collector then N-Y probably works out just fine. Especially since historically they've had the lowest prices. But in an "instant-ish gratification" hobby I've stopped looking to them. -b.

So I'm in for this, the Alto 29 was, in my opinion, second only to the VF-171 Nightmare Plus as the worst of the Frontier releases. If the hips are significantly improved that alone will be worth the dive. -b. -
Fingers crossed. -b.

Nice! Haven't seen a Re:EDIT Iron Man (Bleeding Edge or otherwise) around these parts in awhile. Kind of wish Sentinel (or 1000toys) would revisit the line, but I'm looking forward to Master Chief. -b.

Shipping via DHL (from Mandarake, Nagoya branch) is definitely a bit pricier. I literally just paid a shipping fee of 7950 JPY for a set of Bandai DX SSP and a Yamato Display Stand, that's the most I've ever paid for shipping from Mandarake. Will be extremely happy once commerce has stabilized, and prices along with it. -b.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Kanedas Bike replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hmmm, I'm going to check out a Bandai 1/72 kit. If nothing else it'll give me something else to do during my state's stay at home order. As far as everything else, completely agreed. I mention Bandai because 90% of what I buy these days is made by them, but I would be fine with any company making Star Wars ships as long as they did them justice. -b. -
STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Kanedas Bike replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Interesting perspective, I don't really pay much attention to the merchandising for any property I like outside of the things I want to buy. Meaning most blockbusters these days come with all sorts of items marketed for boys, girls, teens to young adults. I look for the things made for "high-end" collectors, Star Wars absolutely has the brand power to cater to all segments. But ships have always been under-served outside of those for the figures. Which leads us to this; And I should have been clear, I'm not looking for ships made to scale with any of the action figures, an X-Wing the size of a 1/60th scaled Valkyrie in Fighter would put me on cloud nine. Ha ha ha ha ha - fair! But some of us (me) aren't talented model builders. Plus toys lend themselves to being handled, even if I could manage a decent model build, I wouldn't be inclined to handle it like I would a toy. Until then I'll keep watching this thread hoping for an announcement. -b. -
STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Kanedas Bike replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Am I the only one desperate for someone like Bandai to do highly detailed vehicles? And don't mean their models, I mean toys that are on par with their Metal Build, Composite and Chogokin lines. The Hot Wheels Elite series kinda came close but were pretty meh. I really just want a kick ass Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, Ghost and other iconic ships from the universe to be made into high-end toys. Action Figures are cool for sure, but damn...gimmie some ships already. -b. -
Post Skywalker Saga Star Wars Movies and Projects
Kanedas Bike replied to jvmacross's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's an interesting discussion, if you or I were Kathleen Kennedy we'd like want, or have to, do the same thing. Movie making is by and large a commercial enterprise. Disney paid $4 Billion dollars for Star Wars. With that, there had better have been a return on investment - which there has been. Otherwise, guaranteed she would have been out. As long as Star Wars continues to make bank, she's in. They were a little too aggressive with plans on a Solo trilogy, Boba Fett films and other stuff that could have actually lost Disney money or not seen the type of returns they wanted, hence why the plug was pulled, quickly. That doesn't mean that the studio should put out creatively bankrupt movies (which is what I think that by and large the complaints are about). I mean, how do you mix making commercially viable movies while attempting new and creative things? That's rhetorical by the way, but something that the industry has always tried to balance. And for whatever reason it doesn't happen often. The Force Awakens - the complaint is that it was too much like "A New Hope", a vocal section of the fan base mumbles and groans, but is generally well received by critics, other fans and the casual audience The Last Jedi - too many creative liberties taken with legacy characters and established in-universe cannon, a vocal section of the fan base has an absolute sh!t fit because it goes too far afield, well received by critics, general audiences are like "okay, sure" The Rise of Skywalker - does it's* best with trying to reconcile a trilogies worth of disconnected plot points and ends up cementing the dislike of the sequel trilogy for said vocal section of the fan base, leaves critics generally disappointed, audiences again like "okay, sure". And the remainder of the SW fan base probably hoping new movies aren't so divisive. But Disney has had some products where the general consensus is positive; Rogue One, The Mandalorian, final season of The Clone Wars (I think). Personally I don't hate what Disney has done, and I'm not in love with everything either, IMO Disney has done what they've needed to. Continued or* expanded on the Star Wars legacy of space adventure popcorn movies. Missteps have been made for sure (certain movies, tossing out what I gather to be beloved expanded universe cannon, etc.), but these aren't the worst things to happen in the history of things happening. Sometimes I think a little perspective is missing when we talk about, well, just about anything, Star Wars included. -b. *edit for spelling and grammar waaaaayyyyy after the fact- 326 replies
