    I really didn't think Kawamori would (or even should) get involve in Sony's project but if we play the game of "What If" I don't see Big West telling him to go kick rocks if he decided to act like a mercenary. BW did do a Macross without his involvement and it was a utter failure. I'd be happy if Sony could grab a few Japanese designers for a new take on the mechanical designs..

    I think they put a trademark on Macross. It's like another company cannot use Macross on their products here in the states (merchandising) but it doesn't mean HG can create new animation using the Macross name or designs..

    However Kawamori doesn't own Macross. He gets a creator credit and the work he does is like work for hire for Big West. BW gets the bulk of the money for any international release of Macross. You offer up enough money could he be swayed to design for Sony? Maybe, he has a history with Sony..

    I think a Robotech movie can be made without using the Macross character or mecha designs.Maybe keep some superficial story elements like a giant alien spaceship giving Earth technology and of course an alien invasion. I'd rather see all new designs with a Japanese style..

    Well..How do you explain the SDF-3 in Sentinels being a Zentradi design while it appears the SDF-3 in Macross is Breetai's flag ship? I think it's plausible Macek cheery picked through certain production notes from Macross and used them for Sentinels.

    I always wondered why the SDF 3 in Sentinels used the Zentradi style and it wasn't able transform. I always accepted their Trojan horse theory or "Gun boat diplomacy" theory. Looks like Macek did a little research from whatever production notes he gained from Tatsunoko and since he couldn't use Breetai ship for Sentinels a new SDF-3 was designed. You'll notice the VF-1 WOLF PACK..

    I remember seeing the ad in Comico's Macross issue 1 on the very last page.. Not trying to steal your thunder Gubaba I just wanted to share this. I bought Elementals issue 2 back issue and I saw this on the final page..

    In some pre-production art for Robotech 2: The Sentinels Minmay is called Maria because producers didn't want Anime Friend (the animation team) thinking it was a Macross sequel..Another link in the chain?
