Harmony Gold & Toynami releasing DYRL? Toys
Apollo Leader replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hey Graham! Any news or developments yet on the Yamato/Big West end of things? -
I wasn't much into Voltron/Golion back in the day, but I think Toynami's redition is okay. Guess we'll have to see what the final price is...

The Floating Head floats again! -
Some of the major toy sites, like figures.com, will be covering the event so we should be set.

Kevin's been there at the show two years straight now. As for Macross stuff, the DYRL Super Poseables are suppose to be there...

God help us if DYRL MPC's become a reality. Unfortunately for Toynami, there was never a HCM Super Ostrich or Elintseeker. But if Toynami redid their VF-1's completely... -
I picked mine up at Target last night, too. Considering I'm so used to paying the big bucks for my Valkyries, $69.95 for a toy this large, heavy and detailed seems like a steal.

I think you hit it on the head, O Master Sniper. I'll bet that, after Robert Woodhead's jawdropping announcement a few months back (which was, IYEAPN, the catalyst to my going R2 to get DYRL) HG's lawyers went all out to try to discern if they could get the license themselves. If we're lucky these hideous Super Posables are just HG's attempt at a Sunwards in reverse. Which announcement was this???? Robert has stated many times during the last few years that DYRL would probably never see a US release due to all the complications involving who really has the rights to DYRL. -

Here are some of my thoughts: 1) This will probably end up like the Macross 7 Trash, unless the ruling back in the fall initimidates Big West from protecting their own property. This will only further ruin the chances that Macross fans will ever get to see Macross toys and merchandise from Japan released here in the US and at afforable prices. 2) Since it appears that HG and Toynami are working solo from Big West, that pretty much guarantees that no official artwork or animation scenes from DYRL will be utilized on the packaging. This will be Tommy Yune's "fan" work and not official character artwork by Haruhiko Mikimoto or mecha designs by Shoji Kawamori, Studio Nue, et al. 3) Unlike Big West licensed and approved Macross merchandise in Japan (which is what us Macross fans REALLY want), neither Harmony Gold or Toynami have access to Shoji Kawamori, Studio Nue, et al to get their approval on the accuracy of their take on the VF-1 Valkyrie's or any other Macross mecha. Toynami's versions of Macross mecha will continue to be inferior to what is available to Japanese fans. 4) I extremely doubt that Big West is just going to "hand over" its film reels of DYRL or other DYRL refernce materials to Harmony Gold. Harmony Gold did nothing to support or finance any of the Macross sequels and they are basically trying to profit off of other people's creations, investments, and hardwork. I will give credit to Harmony Gold and Toynami for trying to actually make an effort to support a real anime classic like Macross Do You Remember Love?, but the way they are doing it is wrong and only bound to cause more unhappiness for all parties. -

I'll be posting some thoughts of my own in a little bit, but I would like to suggest to the moderators that this thread be moved over to the Toys forum since this is a Macross release (whether its legit or not) and not a Robotech or "Other" release. -
BTW, where's a good place to download episode 3 of Macross Zero (I still have yet to see it!)? I'll have to check out Area 88 one of these days.

What part of the country do you live in? Now I got to decide whether I should go out and do some shopping this weekend.

One of the times I got to talk to Shawn over the phone back in 2002, I brought up the subject if it were ever stressful maintaining the site and forum. He told me that he enjoyed it (as in running Macross World and the forum) and that it was stress relief for him.

Looks like Graham's been busy. Congratulations! As for the VF-0, as long as we eventually get a much larger VF-0 down the road, I think I can live with the 1/100th VF-0 for now.

Preorder for the Alpha MPC is now open

It's not a missle, it's a sensor pod. It is not a tumah! Other then the seams and the painted canopy (I presume this will change on the final version), the MPC Alpha looks promising. -
I finally got my hands on three of these guys this evening. Some of the ones I saw had their "V" antennas slightly warped, but most of them were fairly straight (I went to two different Targets). It's great that Bandai gave THE original RX-78-2 the Arch Enemy treatment. I know that Char's Gelgoog is next, but I do hope that a Zaku II gets this treatment someday.

BTW, has anyone read RD Reynold's Wrestlecrap book? I bought it right before Christmas and got done with it a few weeks ago. Though it has a lot of stuff that has been brought up on the web site before, it was still an entertaining read. Can't wait for the Death of the WCW book. -
NEW Official MPC Thread!!!
Apollo Leader replied to FRED THE FRENCH's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Kevin told me a few days back that Toynami had received its preproduction model very recently and they are making the final tweaks to the toy. Looks like we should expect late April or later. My guess of when we'll first see it will be the New York Toyfare (again, me guess). -
Hopefully this 1/100th scale VF-0 will be a little bit cheaper then the 1/60th scale VF-1's. If these sell well enough, Yamato will have the profit to engineer and develop a much bigger version.
