Got To Sit In An SR-71 Blackbird
Apollo Leader replied to glane21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
On the boarding ladder right near the A-12, aviation writer and former Minnesota Air Guard member James Goodall (who has written many a book on Lockheed's aircraft) has himself as the crew chief! While he was still a part of the MANG during the early 1990's, Mr. Goodall was the man responsible for getting this A-12 for this museum's collection. At the time, this A-12 was the biggest item ever carried on a C-5! -

One of the other notable features of the A-12 was that the chines (otherwise the "hood") of the A-12 wasn't as flared out as on the later SR-71. -

http://www.sacmuseum.org/ Actually it now sits about 30 miles away from Offutt right inside the entrance to the Strategic Air and Space Museum these days. As for the A-12, here's some pics I took of the one that is at the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum in Minneapolis (took these almost two years ago). -
I meant to mention this a week or two ago, but since when is there "mountains" in Iowa?!?! Also, is the nuke still in Iowa? They're making it sound like a super powerful weapon, but based on it's size and since they are trying to fire it with a tactical battlefield size rocket, my guess is something like that would only be a few 100 kilotons at best (not to downplay that it would suck for whoever it hit!). Also, since that rocket would probably have a range of somewhere under a 100 miles, does anyone want to guess who the target is? If they are still on the west side of Iowa, they would be aiming towards Omaha or Kansas City.

Looks like the Super Hornet will finally be paying the Offutt air show a visit. Now if only the Raptor would show up... -

So who's got their tickets yet for the opening day? I picked up today four tickets for the midnight showing and one ticket so I could see it by myself at 4:00 in the afternoon that same day at the Cinema Center here in Omaha. -
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...&s=dvd&n=507846 I'm 99% sure Arnold's voice work is from when the movie was shot because his Austrian accent is a little stronger here, but considering he had hardly been in the US up to that point, I thought he did quite well.

Nope, its the honkey country club dub, or the OAK redub (which is hilarious)... Thats it. I bought theHercules in New York DVD over a year ago and it has BOTH dubs - the "Arnold Strong" voiceover and the track with Arnold's real voice.

He's been retired ever since that very horrific in-ring accident against Scott Steiner in WCW. It was in the middle of the match, and Sid Vicious went to the top rope and jumped off to land on one leg, to give Steiner a kick, when his entire lower leg buckled and he basically shattered every bone down there. I can still remember his entire foot just dangling in the opposite direction, and that bone sticking out of his jeans. Definitely the worst in ring accident I have ever seen. Keep in mind though, that Owen Hart's life ending accident was not shown on camera, although I did watch that PPV. After reading The Death of the WCW, I did a search on Sid to see what he was up to these days and apparently he has made some sort of appearance at one or more wrestling events during this past year, though I'm not sure if he wrestled or not. Considering the extent of his injury, it was a miracle they got he leg put back together! -
You should have mentioned Young Guns 1 and 2 especially since Lou Diamond Phillips was in season 1!

I read this article when the link and article was posted at Wrestlecrap.com. It is quite clear that the writer of the article is left of center and thus would be biased against Jim "Warrior" Helwig (how much can we believe in this article is true?). Reading some of the other articles posted on the college's website, it is quite clear that the college newspaper and the college itself is off on the left end of the political spectrum. But that should be expected from a large college/university on the east coast... -
I think "Phoenix" was maybe just a call sign, since the aircraft was properly identified as an F-117 this episode. Stealing an F/A-22 from Edwards would have been more believable, but they probably didn't have the right stock footage to use.

Because of everything I've seen in these posts, I probably won't have to bother in seeing the movie when it comes out next month! Even with all these spoilers, I plan on seeing it at midnight on the 19th and maybe a second time that day. -
Official Gundam Plamodel Thread

That's because it's super-old-news. This set was from the first wave of Gundam figures released in the US several years ago. So it took nearly four years for that MSIA set to come out Japan and we got it all the way back in 2001. -
Our former governor is #9 down the list.

Just finished the episode half an hour ago (central time). Just a few comments: 1)Why was an F-117 sitting around with live munitions at some airfield near LA? 2)When Mitch Anderson (I think that's his name) got into and took off with this aircraft, I think somebody preparing the aircraft would have realized that this was not the pilot who flew it there and was to take off with it. 3)What was Mitch Anderson's motivation? Was it the money and/or his discharge? 4)I wish these writers would do a little research and find out that the F-117 has NEVER used air-to-air weapons opperationally, so it would be virtually impossible that this F-117 would have any such weapons. Since the Nighthawk has no radar, it can only be configured for Sidewinders. 5)Which leads to that the F-117 can not track other aircraft or targets by radar. At best, it could use it's FLIR to try to detect air-to-air targets. 6)Since Air Force One had several fighters giving it coverage and since they were looking for an incoming threat, they would have detect the F-117 when it got in close enough (either radar or IR) combined with that there was no other air traffic and no ECM being done by jamming aircraft. 7)There was no specific lockon onto Air Force One... he just aimed at the cluster of aircraft and fired. Geek boy rant complete.

From what I remember from last week's preview, it looks like the F-117 will be used for a ground attack. So the target could be Air Force One or even something else all together. I don't recall Air Force One being mentioned as the specific target. As for who would replace the president in the event of an emergency, you would have the vice president. I am a little rusty on my civics, so in no particular order you would then have the majority leaders of the House and Senate, the Chiefs of Staff (either Defense or State would be first), the Supreme Court, and so on.

Any results to report yet? BTW, who saw the WWE hall of fame induction ceremony on Spike last night? It's been a few years since I've watched a WWE program all the way through, but since the main focus was on Hogan and Piper, I had to watch for the nostalgia value. I did notice that they were referring to Hogan throughout most of the program as Hulk Hogan, so did Vince and company resolve the copyrights issues with Marvel? -

..of course Anakin will have to wait around for quite a few months to take advantage of their "perfect" health care systems. -
Besides the limited availibility and the realistic paint job, I believe part of the collectability had to do with that the Low-Viz VF-1A was a tie-in to Macross Zero - the pilot wore a Macross Zero flight suit and helmet.

If Yamato had gone for a blunter looking nose cone, people would be moaning and bitching about that. I myself like the long realistic nose cone Yamato used. If the nose cone has to be removed for the sake of the armor, so be it. At least the nose can be easily removed.
