Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter gone gold! Looks like some of us should be playing the hottest upcoming 360 next week! Now to get back to finishing COD2 on Veteran!

Blu-Ray out on May 23rd. With the movie players and first set of movies coming out in May, I think all signs point to fall or later for the PS3. And it isn't just the PS3, but I just have a beef with all these new DVD formats hitting the scene already. I've been spending about 7 years building up my DVD collection and I have quite a few going back as far as 2000 I haven't even had the chance to watch yet! Now all of a sudden, I'm suppose to go out and rebuy my movies? I don't think so! With the exception of a PS3, I don't see getting any of these new players or discs for quite a few years. As an aside, I just recently got my first writeable DVD player (a Sony model) that's suppose to be able to record to "all" writeable/rewritable DVD's (+ or -). I had a pack of Imation DVD-R's and everyone I tried, my player kept saying the discs were "dirty"... the next day I got a pack of Sony brand DVD-RW's and they seem to be working just fine! Having all these many DVD formats out there is REALLY starting to become messy.

Haven't seen any scores yet, but I've been given the impression that it is at least a decent game. Glad it delves into who was involved in trying to assassinate David Palmer at the end of season 2, but I could never understand why they didn't go into that at all on the last 3 seasons of the show.

Darren Mcgavin Dies At Age 83....
Apollo Leader replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" Since he was in his early 80's, that means he was like about 60 years old playing Ralphie's dad! RIP -
I think the PS3 is the antithesis of the N64. In the case of the N64, Nintendo decided to hold on to a woefully obsolete format (cartridges). If Nintendo had decided to go the CD route, the games would have bee a lot better (CD's would have given developers far more room to put higher detailed graphics, computer rendered graphic cut scenes which were the big rage, CD sound, more content in general, etc.), cost less, and many more companies would still be heavily developing for them to this day. I'm pretty sure Nintendo would have a much bigger slice of the gaming market if it had gone the CD route for the N64. As for the PS3, the problem is they are trying to jump onto a technology bandwagon way too early resulting in developmental problems and high costs. IMHO, the use of either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD for a video game console should be held off for at least a year. The technology is too new. It's like if the PS2 was introduced in 1998 or 1999... Sony would have ran into higher costs and development issues if they had introduced such a system that soon.

It looks like Sony is admitting that the PS3 will probably be delayed until the fall or later: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6144963.html Hopefully Sony can get Blu-Ray perfected and get this system down in price.

Three words about last night's episode... ROBOCOP-ON-24! First we have Sam-wise from Lord of the Rings now this... in one of the upcoming episodes they need to have Peter Weller say, "Dead or alive, you're coming with me!" On Smallville, they've done lots of homage to the fact that John Schneider was on the Duke's of Hazard, so I say they should start doing the same thing with 24.

Robotech: Live Action Movie!?!?!?!?
Apollo Leader replied to valkyrie_cadman's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've thought about that idea for years... at one point in the live action Macross TV series, Hikaru would be standing with either Minmay or Misa at the front of the Macross with their arms extended out just like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet with Celine Deon's song playing in the background ("Near... far... where ever you are..."). Funny thing is every time I hear that song on the radio, I immediately think of Macross DYRL or my live action Macross movie! -
Robotech: Live Action Movie!?!?!?!?
Apollo Leader replied to valkyrie_cadman's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
From everything that's been going on with the Shadow Chronicles, I think they (Harmony Gold) are interested more in creating new materials using Mospeada/New Generation as the spring board. But right now we just have a very small bit of information to go by, so right now all we can do is speculate how any live action Robotech production may turn out. -

I think that artwork above was one of the other guys doing the Robotech comic books. When Tommy is doing the Macross characters, he tries to keep the stuff looking similar to how Mikimoto did the characters. Here's an example of Tommy's work (also look on the boxes of the MPC toys): -
Robotech: Live Action Movie!?!?!?!?

I've already started some digging and it seems like something is indeed in the works. Looks like this is the same situation with that company that's putting out those 12" Macross figures... they put the story up on their webpage before robotech.com could. Hopefully we'll find out what the real deal is in the hours and days ahead. Anyway, these guys need to consider Areaseven's list of suggested actors for a live action Robotech movie! Did anyone notice that it looks like they got a new Voltron series in the works, too? -
The WWE and Pro-Wrestling Thread
Apollo Leader replied to areaseven's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
For those interested, Wrestlecrap.com has just posted the second part of its interview with Vince Russo last night. http://www.wrestlecrap.com/wrestlecrapradio.html I've listened to both interviews and it was quite interesting to get Vince's view point of what he did while being in the WWF and WCW. Be warned, it will probably take a while to download both parts of the interview probably because of the increased traffic. Last night when I downloaded part 2, the download sppeeds crept along at about 30k a second even with high speed Internet! With my DSL connection at work, it's been varrying from 10k down to 3k! -

Are you sure that wasn't scripted? Sounds like something Vince McMahon would think up. -

Since SmackDown! is pre-recorded, you're not gonna see that on TV. Any in-crowd incident not related to the show will be edited out. In-ring mistakes will be either edited out or re-shot after the next match. 373456 Since Smackdown is shot a few days in advanced, is it the same with RAW? Up until a few years ago, I thought these shows were being broadcast almost live with just a few mintue time delay. Maybe this was the case during the WWF vs. WCW era. I can remember back in the late 80's/early 90's when a few episodes of Superstars of Wrestling and a few other WWF programs were shot here in Omaha. Some of these shows were shot several weeks in advance of their TV airing... it was real bizzare one time for a taping of Superstars of Wrestling when Hulk Hogan refered to an upcoming pay per view event as being "the next day" when in reality that PPV wasn't until a week or two from that upcoming Sunday (and this show was being taped on a Monday or Tuesday)! -
Aircraft VS super thread!
Apollo Leader replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I've heard some people whine about the military getting enough spare parts and replacements to cover it's aircraft, tanks, equipment, etc. for several decades or more, but what's going on with the B-1B shows why you need to have plenty of spare and replacement parts on hand especially when said piece of equipment will have to be used for several decades or more. If the car manufacturers were forced to make few replacement parts for the vehicles they manufacture, there would be nothing but broken down vehicles all over the place! -
Are you sure that isn't a teaser poster for the PS3? (You know how the PS3 uses the same font ). Looks like dark times for Peter Parker next year...

Bandai USA gave Gihren's Greed the shaft years ago because "Gundam RPG's/Stategy games won't sell here". Since they left a US release of Gihren's Greed high and dry, I'm not waisting my money on this SD stuff... still got to get around to beating Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam anyway!

Mike, looking at your list, it looks like you have a ways to go before you equal the collection of games and systems I used to have. I think my total collection now is only about 128 or so games for the SNES (21), PS1 (27), PS2 (24), Saturn (33 - funny that my Saturn has the most games and about 2/3 of them are imports!), Dreamcast (15), and Xbox 360 (4 - 360 games and 4 Xbox games). In my case, my PS2 has worked since launch day October 2000. I have put many hours of my life into that thing and it has stood the test of time. In late 2003, I personally took it apart to give it one of those flip doors so I could play imports. My first PS1 on the other hand (got int 9/9/95) started going goofy after about 6 months...

This is off topic from what some of you've been talking about recently, but I was just thinking about Halo 3 and how it may not be out until next year. I know a lot of people would like to see it come out sooner (including me ), but in light of the PS3 not seeing the light of day at least until later this year, it's expensive price tag (which looks to be at least $500 - I know it isn't going to be $900, but Sony better get some damage control going because this number is quickly sinking into people's psyches), and that the best quality games are way off on the horizon, I can definitely see why Microsoft is pretty content in keeping Halo 3 under wraps. Hey it's possible that Halo 3 could be ready to counter the PS3 after all! Tomorrow marks the 3 month anniversary of my 360 and it's still going strong. Hope to finish up Call of Duty 2 soon and get to work on one of my other three 360 games (PDZ, RR6, or DOA4). Looking forward to Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (why does that sound like a GBA game title? ) and possibly Blazing Angels.

Toynami's creation is as much a product of Japanese in-fighting over the rights as it is Harmony Gold's. Didn't I hear that HG actually did try to make an arrangement with Yamato only to have Bandai throw a fit? I think it was something like that..... 371645 Just to repeat what I said earlier, back in 2001, HG did try to negotiate with Yamato to release their Macross toys (at least classic Macross anyway), but Big West didn't want Yamato releasing their toys (which Big West, Studio Nue, and Shoji Kawamori had input on) under Harmony Gold's approval - at least while this whole legal mess is going on. I believe Bandai was also approached about their 1/55th rereleases, but again, Big West had issues.

Considering that Sony hasn't shown the "final" controller, all the PS3 cases on display have been empty units (don't be surprised if the PS3 looks different then what's been shown so far), a year after the E3 playable games haven't been made playable to the public, and that Blu-Ray is a brand new (and expensive) technology, fall is the earliest that we'll see this machine at least here in the US. I have a suspicion that when Sony made their PS3 unveiling last May, they were at a point further behind in development then when they unveiled the PS2 in September 1999 in order to deflate the US release of the Dreamcast. But I do hope the machine turns out to be a great piece of equipment. I'll probably get one next year or 2008

Though it's off topic, I was just looking at the figures.com pictures for Bandai's display at the Toy Fair... a small itty-bitty little part of me was dreaming that maybe, just maybe, Bandai was going to surprise eberyone and have some Gundam stuff on display, especially the Zeta stuff they promised 3 years ago (wonder why the 7.5" figures were never released in Japan?). I sure long toward the 2001-2003 period where hoards of UC Gundam stuff actually was sitting on department store shelves. Sigh.... It's funny how things have switched when it comes to Gundam and Macross and me. Now all my Gundam stuff is imports and now I got domestic Macross stuff to look forward to!

Toynami and Harmony Gold actually did try to reach an agreement with Yamato back in the fall of 2001, but Big West basically told Yamato if they did, Big West would have ended its Macross license with Yamato. Until the legal battle between Big West and Tatsunoko is completely squared away, things will remain the status quo.

Besides their Macross rights it makes business sense for them to start doing this while ADV ir releasing their DVD set over this upcoming year. As for Macross 7, I think you meant Macross Plus and II.

I was going to preorder with TMP, but it looks like they have outsold their preorder allotment. Though it's about $13 more then TMP, I went ahead and preordered through Big Bad Toy Store - http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/ - this morning. I'm very glad Yamato went with 1/60th though it's a bit pricy.
