Scratch Building/Model Modification Archive Thread

From RHL002, really great Tomahawk conversion. Somewhat like the Cheyenne with the wheeled feet of the Macross-II Tomahawk. Bought hard copy on Mandarake. $15 cheaper shipped than best price on Ebay. -
They combine shipping sort-of... backed my way into it for two of my transactions since last year by buying multiple items and then asking for a partial refund "after" payment. Took awhile but they finally came thtough. They aren't very public facing, as someone mentioned earlier. Not the most responsive, either... Didn't respond when I'd win all the auctions or had orbs on the cart, just after I'd paid... so whether they're super busy, or just a couple of "wise guys" (ba-dum-bump, tish!) Feels like they're doling it out slowly because there's never more than a handful listed at any one time, among their trains, planes, paints and other stuff for sale. Patience and persistent inquiry with these guys is key to getting value and fair dealing. No complaints on my end in delivered quality for several rare kits.

Scratch Building/Model Modification Archive Thread

Several intriguing kitbash and scratch mod examples in RHL002 Robot Hobby Life 002, several enhanced Valkyries, an insane new spin on the destroid Monster, and a variant on the Macross-2 Tomahawk. All on a flip-through YouTube review, but no comprehensive scans. Anyone got? -
https://macross.fandom.com/wiki/DX_Chogokin ...is an example of a catalog/guide for DX Chogokin, but had any other site attempted a more inclusive tally of the various, non-KO 1/55 through 1/72 Valkyrie, Destroid and Misc.Vehicle brands? The most elusive aspect of toy data "appears" to be final production figures (counts) for the purpose of knowing rarity. Any insights to why, and how to investigate?

Any forecast?

Nice detail and articulation

Thank you!

Toy maker? Saw a destroid advertised on Mandarake... had never seen the brand before. Came to realize they've been around since the 1960s and get credited for popularizing the gashapon industry? No idea what scale or articulation level these are either but they look better than a KO since presumably they got licensed. Looks like they did 5 types, VF-1s,j,armored, tomahawk and z-battlepod...

So progressing from that generation to Frontier, you go from a huge engine room to a ghost or large missile sized accessory (albeit for a much smaller ship...the VF25). Is anything documented for that unit? I don't believe VFDN or Macross Variable Designer Notes did...

Movies and TV forum back ~ 2006 has a long dialog about the PPB on the VF-19 , and it reviews history about the tech's creation as a malfunction of a fold drive, and varying opinions about the gradual reduction in size as the series / years go by. But, what I can't get any visual on is the tech itself... the fold generator, manifolds, power systems etc that were used for the VF-19 shield or any other mecha up to the SDF-1. Any concepts or line art exist? Or any loose comparatives with fold device setups? Or am I stuck with just that lovely pink missile on the VF25 ? Shout-out to anyone who might have better concept art?
-
The third example VF-25.... did the book give any hints in Jaoanese from the concept sketch progression?
-
Oh...example #1 considering translations, it's rather from the translation "fold projector" is more like the M-II Minmay Attack hologram and those are holographic lens clusters? Speaker pods weren't really a thing until Macross-7, right? So fold projection makes more sense.
-
Presuming then from example#1 that those are each clusters of pods and the extending arms on the shoulder units are transmitters/signal boosters?
-
That's interesting. Were there any Valkyrie-based projection units in Frontier or Delta? M-II had the monstrously huge Minmay Attack stations which I've posted about before. But I can't say I recognize any other projection tech on a Valkyrie.

And 3rd example a hauntingly sexy VF-25 Armor variant...can't tell what the triple vanes are, the housing they spoke from, or the forward facing instruments or weapons in front ofvthe vane hub, and behind the cockpit. Genius design, but struggling to understand what these "semi-canonical" accessories represent...help appreciated.
-
Pursuing ambitious scratchbuild endeavor for SK's brilliant prototype & concept designs, but not sure what some of the accessory items are... In this first set of images on the VF-1SOL are these mini-missiles? Or something else? And the expanding/retracting vanes on the shoulder units?
-
Now that several more years have gone by... has anyone else announced a 1/72 render, or even STL files?
-
How they keep managing to ignore the VF-11B and C with thearmor pack that allowed Lt. Kinryu to take down a battleship singlehandedly... I'll never understand. t

I am certainly interested in both this and the Pheyos, whether they be tangible units or files. Ultimately I addition to those in seeking the full armor vf-11c , VF-1ss Metal Siren and any destroids from Macross-2. Are you keeping a customer list? Do I need to send contact info?

Things got quiet... still any possibilities this will be a Holidays stocking stuffer?
-
As we get closer to the Holidays, do you see your Bronco being released by then? Or more like early 2024? And did you absolutely decide it will be selling files? Or print services?
-
Excellent idea. I've been seeking a Bronco II for awhile.

Making some of the lesser known vehicles from SDFM
djivaldi7 replied to SpacePirateNeko's topic in Model kits
A "sort of" vehicle. Has anyone ever taken a swipe at the Macross-2 Minmay Attack Hologram Platform? Does it have a formal designation? I'm looking to kitbash it with plastic bowls and some mixed media, but the sketches of it and the screenshots I've grabbed are a bit rough to plan with. The comic was indeed comical, not even close. Any ideas on source image files?
