Hey Everyone just wanted to share a little news with you. I recieved the following e-mail from one of the publishers I sent my manuscript to: Needless to say I am to totally stoked it isn't funny. Wish me luck all, maybe we'll see my book on the shelves in not too long, and my designs gracing the covers.

The pilot is very close to 1:48 scale, I had some posts about this before, right around the time of the Con sicne I had stuffed my pencil sharpener pilot into my 1:48. If the pilot is 1:48 scale he comes out to around 6'6" if I remember correctly, need to find the old thread. For it to be Hikaru it is around 1:43 scale I think. Like I said find the old post either here or on the old forums and all the calcs are there.

Ok here's a brain teaser for you, is there any kind of adapter plug out there that would allow you to plug a PC gamepad or joystick (standard connection or USB) into a PS2? I just think it would ten bars past cool if I could use my Saitek X-36 HOTAS on a console flight sim, like the new Macross game.

My bad Fulcy, and I actually knew that, it was more for the sake of folks who don't have any material science background. I should have rephrased it as, will it be of a hard resin, or a more rubbery flexible grade? How's that?
-
Rohby, what material are you casting it out of, resin or rubber? If you can post it out of rubber that might be better so that people can put them in the cockpit of their valks, like I did.

Need Help choosing between this 2 Laptops
Knight26 replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If you get a laptop from the store, get it from Circuit City, not Best Buy. It might cost a little more but the service department is heck of a lot better. And, get the extended warranty, I know from experience that this is a good idea. Best Buy has really crappy service work, they always ship it out someplace else and it can take up to a month to get it back. Circuit City's for the most part do it all in house, only send them out when they are in super bad shape. But, if you get the extended warranty it can die the day before the warranty is up and as long as you bring it in they will likely replace it, if it is no longer worth saving. Trust me on this, happened to me once, two days before the warranty was up my computer fell off my bike while ont he way to school and was severely damaged, got a brand new model right off the line as a replacement, for no cost. -
Two Corvettes on the upper pad, still need to name both these classes. At this point I'm thinking of naming them after either anime characters or creators, any suggestions?

Stern shot.

Bow Shot, big beam cannon array.

Another new Yamato shipyard ship. This time a corvette/Gunship. It's armed with four single gun HyperPLASERS, 14 dual gun anti-fighter turrets, 10 torpedo launchers, and an advanced bow mounted beam cannon design. The beam cannon is unique to this class and is extremely powerful, but causes a massive energy drain during prolonged use. These corvettes are used mainly to escort the larger Battleships, two can dock to each of the Battleships extrenal landing/docking pads. More can then dock to other docking ports near the flight decks. The ship is based off of old submarine designs. I think it came out pretty nifty myself, may add some anntenna and such later, what do you think?

The pilot doesn't go in, you get to help make him, the cockpit expands to fit the newly developed pilot.

I can think of worse ways to go.

sweet man, ought to be pretty cool to see

And now for something completely different, three examples of the new textures I've put onto my Splicer 1000s. Three models shown here, from left to right, recon, fighter, trainer.
-
Chase camera view, them's some big engines.
-
The Captain's view, impressive amount of firepower eh?
-
Ok, they're hard to see, but the two lower brudges are visible in this shot.

Finished, well not really, need to add some details, but will back burner for a while. I also did not add the smaller defense turrets right now. The reason being, I did a test fit and well, i couldn't see them unless I zoomed way in. They are pretty small in comparison to the rest of that behemoth. So I've decided to say that they are retractable, and then when I make a shot that needs them I will insert them. I know its lazy, but when I added them the model size got huge and my computer did not appreciate it, lol. Anyway here are the pics.

Sounds cool Cobywan. As for building them myself, my modeling skills are no where near good enough, in my opinion, plus limited building space.

I loved those things as a kid, grew up on them, had them all on Beta, I saw them a couple years ago on VHS, in an orange box, picked up a used copy. They didn't have the whole of any series though, and I don't think they released the rest, not enough demand. Not sure where else you can look.
-
Very Nice Enterprise, what material does your friend's CNC router use? And how much would he charge to make other models, just curious.
-
Tonight's progress, added the secondary bridges on the underside, will show those later. Also added the standard model GF heavy turrets, around 50 or so of them total. Will add the smaller anti-fighter defense turrets later. After that will be adding the little details, antennae, radar domes, etc... and then attach all the textures. Any other ideas of what needs to be added? Well this progress shot shows it with its little brother, the Yamagata class cruisers, usually it would travel with four to six of these things, plus corvettes, all made in Yamato Shipyards. Let me know what you think.

To give you an idea of how it has progressed and changed, here is what it originally looked like on monday. And Exo, what are you talking about, I love all my designs, true some are not as pretty, but they are warships remember. Just messing with your bud, I admit my designs have come a long way and some need redesigns, but some will just continue to be refined, like the Wolfsbane, man I love that ship. It's one of my first designs, not sure if I ever posted a pic of her, will have to do so. Anyway here is how this battleship started life, horrible isn't it?

Ok, now to the Macross inspired portion, the Buster-Razer Turret. I know its not the most accurately modeled Zentraedi laser, but it is inspired by it. Considering the lousy thumbnail I worked from it didn't come out too bad, especially for an inspired work. Anyway the beam emitter has a 51 foot bore to it, big yes I know, but this is an anti-capital weapon, one of the few that is turreted in my books. For a sense of scale I put a little block figure in there of a 6 foot tall man, the little blue guy. To say this is a big gun would be an understatement. To imagine the destructive potential of these weapons, a single blast will destroy (obliterate) any corvette sized vessel (~500' long), leaving only scattered particles behind. Larger craft might be able to sustain a couple hits if their shields and armor are strong enough, but a good solid hit will take down even a large carrier. What is a big deal about these Buster-Razers is that they are turreted, and only the Yamato Shipyards ships fit them. All other Razer cannons are keel mounted so the whole ship has to be brought to bear on a target in order to engage with them. Razers, even Buster-Razers have a very long recycle time however due to the power requirements and need to dissipate the heat and back feed energy generated. Buster-Razers are tunable though so they can fire multiple lowered powered blasts, and have a seconday beam function, but that requires swapping out internal components and is time consuming, not something done during combat usually. Well let me know what you think, as the design progress' I'll throw up more shots. The finished product should really kick, this thing is already way beyond where I started monday, man that version sucked.
