  1. Reading that I assumed the VA-14 was made bulkier then the VF-14 because Zentradi overall preferred something less fragile like the VF-11 and more durable that can last longer in endurance, like Zentradi technology usually is. Though if it's supposed to be a heavier version of the VF-14 (Which checks out with Kawamori's finalized design), it feels weird since it was already considered a Heavy fighter to begin with.
  2. For some reason I keep forgetting Manfred and his suspiciously similar colors Miriya's VF-17S had. Maybe it's precisely because of that. 😅 Liked the ominous music whenever he popped up too, especially when (according to the soundtrack name) it's from the Jamming Sound Device as well. I also keep forgetting Macross 30 has a story as well; I just don't think it's as well documented as VF-X2's. Time Travel is involved, iirc? It went back to even SDF, to an extent. While we know how much guns are attached and how many VF's and Destroids UN ships can hold, if any, the Zentradi warships are officially "many mecha" and "many weapons" to paraphrase.
  3. In all fairness considering how much Zentradi that fought alongside the SDF-1 Macross turned against humanity who were unable to get over their programming, the UN wouldn't bet to try to do this to every fleet they come across, least they end up with more glassed planets. Though I don't think it'd be impossible if more "culture-shock" incidents like the Chlore Fleet happened semi-frequently in the colonization in space.
  4. The VF-17/VF-171 also has a good reputation in and out of universe, though it helps the VF-17 was tied to a major character in 7 and were never (barring Delta's involuntary instance) used as the antagonist Valkyries. And yeah, from what we could tell from the remains even the Zentradi-only (and presumably General Galaxy dominated) Macross 5 preferred the lightweight and versatile VF-11C as their main fighter instead of the VF-14, which shared a lot with their VA-14.
  5. Shame I can't get them now, but that's nice! Any new information that seemed to pop up? The more Macross goes on the more it feels like the VF-14 feels like the neglected weird middle sibling with an identity crisis. 😅😆
  6. Something I've always been confused about is the notion that Gerwalks are pretty much useless in space. Granted in the TV series itseld they don't do much, but I like how they're used in DYRL, where it's more or less used as anchors for the Valkyrie to stop itself since there's no wind resistance in space. Maybe it's one of those technical movie-only things like how the VT-1 could land in water with no issue, but the Gerwalk is honestly a unsung/overlooked iconic part of the issue and it's mildly annoying when they pass it off. And speaking of the VF-1, I don't know if I missed something, but it seems like they're one of, if not the only Valkyrie model that has it's head turrets be able to turn instead of being fixed, much less being the turret under the canopy in Fighter Mode. I get the ones from the VF-11-onwards are useful for its blind spots, but at the same time it probably could also be useful as a quick-thinking weapon if a gun pod isn't available
  7. Okay so I was just overthinking it the whole time. 😅It does make sense considering how huge the UN's sphere and control, much less the galaxy, is. Some parts of the galaxy wouldn't have Shinsei Industries to make stuff for them "in-house" so to speak. I think even on the Macross Mecha Manual page it's explained one of the reasons why the UN ships in Frontier look different then how they did in Plus/7 is because of different manufacturers, if not due to their date of construction. On a extended note it would definitely mean there's many, many, MANY more sub-variants of Valkyries, ships, etc. then we see onscreen.
  8. Sorry for doubleposting, but I got curious of the existence of the VF-19/MG21. It's the Macross Galaxy licensed VF-19 yes, though that also means it was made by General Galaxy. Unless I'm overthinking this, but would they have the legal rights to make something their rival Shinsei Industry has made? Would this mean theoretically General Galaxy could make, I dunno, something like a Zentradi-type VF-11 then? Then again this is the Macross Galaxy, illegal operations is just how they roll.
  9. Right, this game does have unique animated cutscenes. In the first level it even shows the SDF-1 and the Skull Squadron leaving earth right before the Zentradi glassed it from high heavens. I dunno how much it lines up with the movie (and, at least to me, it's implied Minmay has a sense of what happened on the planet), but I know the whole thing of "Zentradi having a jamming device to block out music specifically" doesn't at all, lol.
  10. A part of me considering one of the concerts from Zettai Live!!! wonders if they'll go completely 3D. At this point I'd say their character animation in that field doesn't look bad in it, though I can imagine that being somehow more expensive. Honestly considering Kawamori usually goes forward within the franchise, I wouldn't mind if later down the road we get side-stuff that's not written/directed by him but still has the Macross feel, whether that'd be light novels (such as The Ride) or even a ONA of sorts from a previous time. Even though it's a dream that probably won't come, a part of me really wants a Gundam MSV type series where it showcases designs not particularly for a series but just to show off and make kits of, for Valkyries, Zentradi stuff, ships, etc. This is definitely not an excuse to finally get official designs for unseens like the VA-14, VAB-2, or YF-24, no siree. 😁
  11. I dunno if it's me or not, but the one at the bottom middle seems two ship "arms" away from being a Zentradi-based Macross-type ship. They kinda look too..."triangular(?)" to be Kazutaka designs for the series; his ships had a lot of round edges and not like his later DYRL Meltradi ships. Wouldn't be surprised if these were from the Studio Nue animators themselves.
  12. It is also noticeable that even the UN-built battleships had a slight nod to the appearance of their captured Zentradi ships, where the ships from Plus-onwards follow a more linear progression of the UN designs from SDFM. Though I did hear a interesting theory in a comment from a Macross Mecha Manual FB post that in universe (since the regular stealth frigate was design prior by Kazutaka) the Zentradi-Type Northampton was built first before refitted with NUNS technology. Would make sense considering how up until the Plus/7 era most of their ships that weren't ARMD or the rare Oberth ships were either captured Zentradi ships or visually similar looking (like the M3 battleship) Think it's even more apparent that all of the current VF's in MII was based on the Zentradi Valkyrie, which was made for cultured Zentradi that became apart of the UN (Kinda like the VA-14/VF-14, funny enough.) At least with the VF-1->VF-11->VF-19->etc. the current series is a lot more linear in terms of VF design, as opposed to the Gundam esque "throw on the wall and see what sticks" mentality. In a way, maybe. MII was more focused on the "more guns" ideology that Kawamori ironically steered away from. Unless you count the odd Armored Packs that continues to pop up. Though on the loose topic of VF design, I do wonder what was the VF-16 was at the very least, designed for. It's not like the other unknown designs (VF-5, VA-14, VAB-2) where we knew what role they held, but aside from a plot device for the VF-11MAXL Custom, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be in wide numbers like the VF-11, or a special forces unit.
  13. Oh, I didn't even know those 20+ mentioned were solely the Sol System Thank you and goodnight! I'd assume they were all spread out in the galaxy. Remembering Macross: The Ride, Fasces acquired the Factory Satellite the Protodevlin used to make the Elgerzolns, Panzersoln's, etc. So I assume that used to belong to the Varauta government itself. On a side note, can imagine those belonging to the frontier fleets being a source of trading disputes and what not. B-52 variable bomber when? I don't believe a connection has ever been mentioned there. The Valkyries that HAVE been influenced by the Nousjadeul-Ger are, Variable Glaug excluded, all in the Macross II parellel world timeline. In hindsight the Variable Glaug's Battroid form is very Nousjadeul-Ger inspired, especially with the head and beam cannon. Pretty much the most "modern" equivalent of most Zentradi mechs. Kinda like how the YF-21/VF-22 is very Quadluun-Rau esque. Speaking of, since the Neo Glaug was a 4th generation Variable Fighter, I wonder if it was subjected to the same export restrictions the VF-19 and VF-22 did.
  14. That does make me curious; Macross Chronicle 2E Mechanic Sheet states that more than twenty factory satellites were placed under the control of the UN Forces. So that makes me wonder two things: Are all of them barring the Quimeliquola factory were made to manufacture Regults, or there were a few or more that originally manufactured something else (like Ships, Nousjadeul-Gers, Zentradi clones, etc.). And aside from the aforementioned two, do we know who specifically would have control over them? Would they be moved to the more "important" key places of the Central UN, or any regular colony fleet/government that comes across one can keep one if they stumbled onto one?
  15. Oh, I see. The generalization does make sense overall, being stationed on a planet with a well established population would make you protectors of said planet by default. The best date I had for their destruction was in 2029, one year before all hell broke loose. I'm assuming that uprising had a lot more rise in tensions even more so compared to Kamujin's. I probably answered my own curiosity when I remembered it was so bad giant Zentradi were banned outright from being on Earth... Look, how would they know that messing around and finding out would result in awakening space vampire eldritch abominations? Not even Sharon and the Varja was that out there! 😆 Yeah, and with Macross 5's case, it seems that having a fleet full with pure Zentradi based technology would work best with an all Zentradi population. Though I would assume a human probably wouldn't have too much issue piloting a VA-14 or Variable/Neo Glaug if necessary. Though, now I'm wondering what kind of "themed" culture Zentradi would have to make an entire city have that aesthetic? They're trying to preserve culture as best as they can, it's not their fault the majority of Gundam Unicorn and the new Star Wars trilogy never existed. 🤣 Though depending on who you ask that might be a good thing. And in case those jokes didn't land, this is what I was referencing: I don't know what's possessing you to making these kinds of memes, don't don't exorcise it please.
  16. Well in the context of Delta they were closer to a more populous area iirc. I can assume city defense is a more higher status then those dead end postings, if Diamond Force's transfer to defend City 7 is to be believed. Now that I didn't catch on! That's a bit interesting, and explains a lot on my pondering's about the military's flexibility. I'd imagine they'd be a result of the 2030 attack, considering the Macross 5 fleet was grouped up with the malcontent Zentradi Emigrants in Macross Chronicle (And confusing me in the process...) Though, are you referring to the Megaroad-24 and Megaroad-25's destructions? I assume those were from accidents as opposed to deliberate malicious intent.
  17. Right, that's absolutely fair. Does make me wonder if NUNS Marines doing regular garrison work is somewhat common, or that can be filled by any branch of the New UN military. Speaking of Zentradi-only affairs, I wonder when and why mostly/only Zentrad colony fleets and planets came to be. Not from the anti-Earth Zentradi emigrant ships that peaced out in 2031, but talking more in lines like the Macross 5 fleet. It'd be less conspicuous if they were just coincidences, since it's not a stretch at all to assume there's a lot more human-only colonies in the galaxy. But considering there's specifically Zentradi tailored variable craft and ships at a point Overtechnology was being utilized everywhere by the 2nd generation Valkyries, it just makes me curious to think why they're made to be so obvious. It does feel like the other single-biome planets like Varauta IV, Gallia IV, and the other icy-planet in 7 seem like the exceptions to the rule; at least in the sense of that they're breathable but not exactly habitable per se. It would make sense, considering the desert and ocean (as Eden and Ragna shows) that it's the best place to begin a colony.
  18. It seemed like in DYRL? a lot more then 100 ships were apart of Britai's surviving forces, so I can absolutely see it. Either that or it seems like so because there's also the Meltradi ships that decided to help the Macross as well. Speaking of, it is funny how Max and Milia were both in the process of fighting together before Minmay, and I heard this particular theory that because Max was unaware of the Main Fleet's temporary peace treaty, he was to the Meltradi what Minmay was to the Zentradi. Huh, well that's very interesting. Nice to see even a Valkyrie that showed up less then a few seconds got it's chance to shine through, well pretty much everything else. 😋 Part of me speculates why we don't see the Nousjadeul-types reappearing as much as other Zentradi mechs. The TV series design is ugly as sin, and not even in a endearing type of way like the Draug or Protodevlin designs. The movie's design, while personally top tier, takes a lot more design cues from the TV's Queadluun-Rau (Which considering the plot of the movie is completely justifiable), and those just have more higher class to appear in more stuff. Though considering the Gnerl's appear in both VF-X2 and M3, it's probably just a lot more unpopular then I thought. I think Macross II as a standalone title is fine, and it did have a lot of new concepts that were intriguing. Though I feel like they're not used to the extent that they could've/should've been used, so it's why on my first viewing the second half of the OVA felt more like a rehash of the SDF series. Though, I think from that last sentence I think I should embrace the fact I'm a lot more of a Macross fan then I am a UC one, and I love that part of Gundam....Sometimes. Really the first series, ZZ, most OVA's, and the idea of Late UC. Everything else is a hit or miss. Considering how meta Macross can get, I can see something in the lines of that being used to its advantage in the main continuity.
  19. Right, those were from THIS IS ANIMATION SPECIAL - Macross Plus, weren't they? The one that comes to mind was the VF-4's Blue Phoenix squadron/platoon had. My guess would be that, if going with Frontier's 33rd Marines, can operate away close to civilization in case they turn and become one of many anti-government Zentradi. Though that kinda falls flat considering what the Marines from Al Shahal got a bit too close to civilians once the Var infected them, but they seemed more laid back compared to Temujin and his cronies, and the situation wasn't their fault anyways. There's also the Zentradi-only colonies to factor and they definitely can't all be marines. 🤪 Speaking of Al Shahal, I know it's aesthetic was based off references from Dubai, though I can't help but think about how many other colony planets might be mainly desert environments; considering Class-A habitable planets appear once and a blue moon and colony fleets basically work with that they got until they can't. I assume the UNSAF existence is that they can operate both in the atmosphere and in space. I kinda assume they are what we saw in SDF and 7 since the military's forces were flexible enough to do both.
  20. Yeah, it makes sense why defense as opposed to avoidance when possible was more of a priority in the Macross II universe. It seems whenever the UN in both timelines use battleships and the like instead of frigates and carriers, it's mostly with Zentradi in mind (Hence the Varauta NUNS going for their own local models of battleships as well.) I guess in a way it's not too different from what some installments like VF-X2 goes with, seeing most of the NUNS ships we see are recolored Meltradi ships (Specifically the Gunboats and LSTs). So I'm guessing these are either rebuilt/retrieved ships from previous conflicts or human built ships that accommodate a micronized crew instead. It is interesting how when they reverse-engineer Zentradi technology, the Nousjaduel-Ger design is said to be more of the inspiration then the Queadluun Rau (The example that comes to mind first is the white and green Zentradi Valkyrie that shows up for a few seconds). Compared to the main timeline where the existence of the YF-21/VF-22, the modern Rhea and Alma models, and the Regult from Delta using the same legs and missile launchers from the Rhea clearly shows the bias for the high performing suit. I guess back then they were seen more or less equal in performance? That makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if those two share the same book, though considering the Kairos Plus... Well that's a shame. Admittedly I'm a lot more fond of the VF-31A's we see then the Seigfrieds (which I still like a lot all things considered), though that's because I lean towards the monoeye look in designs when it's not a simple visor or the odd Zentradi-type face (Like the VF-5000 and regular Variable Glaug) The more I think about it I think naval operations in Macross is a rarity, but not non-existent. The Uraga class was made partially for marine operations iirc, and there's the existence of the VA-3M. In these cases it's probably for any civil wars or other in-fighting instead of a alien invasion like the UN thought it'd be with the Zentradi.
  21. Well I've seen people describe it as a "anime high school drama with planes thrown in" in a derogatory sense, but tbh the bar was set low after the repeat of the love triangle in the final SDF episodes. 😝 And really, I ain't gonna complain about Plus' finale in the slightest (Movie version at least, the OVA's was so underwhelming by comparison)
  22. I've noticed a bit of a trend. It seems like giant Zentradi use mechs such as the Queadluun-Rau and the Neo Glaug bis are usually primarily used by NUNS Marines (Such as the 33rd Battalion in Frontier, and I think the 10th Assault Battalion in Delta) then any other branch of the NUNS. How come there's a correlation between giant Zentradi and the Marines? And what is the extent of the roles and purpose the NUNS Marines have overall, if the franchise ever went in such detail?
  23. It seems Macross II's ships were a lot more designed around defense against Zentradi fleets compared to the main continuity's mostly frigates and carrier ships. iirc II had a lot more battleships and Zentradi vessels compared to the uncommon numbers we have now. On a whole different note; I know it's probably never gonna happen, but if there was a Master File book of the VF-14 Vampire that not only includes both M3 and 7 designs, but also gives a (albeit unofficial) design of the VA-14 I'd be happy. Though it seems those books usually go for the more "big name" Valkyries then the cannon fodder or antagonist Valks (The VF-11 was an exception, though iirc people had found it more underwhelming compared to the rest.)
  24. Finally, I can legally support this franchise! 😄 After DYRL having English as a semi-important point in the movie, and the fact this franchise was meant for international waters, this feels like a long time coming. Absolutely glad I got into this franchise last year. Hope to Zero and 7 Dynamite getting a release as well.
