Just throwing this question out there, though it's more of a "fanfic-y" type one. Considering the Queadluun-Rhea is a updated Rau with even more high performance and pilot survivability, could the Queadluun-Nona theoretically be given Rhea-like updates without repeating the same production and maintenance snarls?

Oh right, I can see it a lot from the beam cannon and head. As someone who really loves the design, I'm wondering why Kawamori decided to give one for the Neo Glaug's predecessor when he didn't before. Maybe to focus on the Gerwalk/Glaug more in that sense? For some reason this reminds me of the Regults with UN markings in the Master File. It looks nice on them, though I think in official material most NUNS allied Zentradi still don the old Zentradi symbol. Strange...I read that the city Isamu and Guld fought in when they reached Earth was where cloned colonists lived in prior to be launched into space in emigration fleets. And once Mass Cloning ceased in 2030, the city became abandoned once there was no need for it. Could've sworn I read that somewhere- <TVTropes. ...I feel like that explains it all in of itself. 😅 In my defense it was where I learned about the Mass Cloning within the franchise in the first place. iirc some colonized worlds like Ouroboros and the Brisingr Globular Cluster has Protoculture ruins just lying about, though I'd assume not all of them were as potent and potentially dangerous as those were, so in regular cases it does make me wonder if they'd be left alone and/or be the suspect of constant research from the UN if they're just standing there like Planet Rax's ruins and Altira.

That makes sense, probably explains why the Feios Valkyrie is so flat in it's Fighter form. I do wonder where does the pink/red coloring from the Mech Manual came from? In both VF-X games they're green with yellow and grey highlights which makes it a lot more traditionally "Zentradi" like, but the other one doesn't appear at all. Right? From official setting material It's described as florally and biologically the same as Earth, just slightly larger. It's not like those abandoned clone cities in Plus where you can connect the dots on why they were abandoned (mostly Earth being a less viable place to live in overall, and the whole Mass Cloning thing going wrong.)

I believe the Stealth Regult, Stealth Glaug, and the other enemy units from VF-X was also redesigned and upgraded mechs from Zentradi dissidents like the those two, or do they have some backstory I'm not familiar with? I also wonder who designed them, they look very angular compared to most other designs from Kawamori and Miyatake. Better then nothing at least, heh. Though still funny to me that the Nousjadeul-Ger has kinda been left out in terms of given improvements; I remember someone speculating that the Regult Type 106 was basically a more "cost effective" version of a Queadluun-Rhea since the battlesuit is expensive as is and Regults are practically everywhere, and thus made the Ger type battlesuits obsolete. Least they live on as the shoulder cannon on the Rhea type. It does bring the impression that most if not all of the UN/NUNS Marines are made up of giant Zentradi, or at the very least a frequent enough in modern material (i.e Frontier and Delta) to typecast them into the position. Also with supposedly high skill since those two have been compared to the best valkyries of the time (Neo Glaug to the VF-19/VF-22, and the Rhes/56 to the VF-25.) I don't think we gotten a good scale on how much the former in numbers was mass produced, as both the Variable Glaug and the Neo Glaug, Does make me wonder if any other branch of the NUN military would use battlepods and/or battlesuits alongside Valkyries, probably in lower numbers but a interesting to wonder about.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!

As if the man would wanna fly anything that's not a VF-19, lol. I know there's a YF-29 with "Isamu colors, but let the joke play out A bit more interested on how would the transformation look for the new designs. I don't think we're gonna go back to the more rounder and/or bulky design aesthetic from Plus/7, and Delta's designs were very derivative of Frontiers as much as I prefer the latter's designs overall. -

Probably not much, considering it was such a solid design it had the moniker as the "Varja Killer," so it had both the power and speed for potential colonies and fleets. At most I can see just general improvements on the design, like the VF-14D and VF-19F were to their initial production runs. -

To be perfectly fair we're supposed to believe the Feios Valkyrie (from the VF-X game series) came from the VF-11 prototype in 2030 despite looking closer to the VAB-2/FBz-99G. -

The Megaroad-class were the first of the Long Range colony ships that were used for the first emigrant colony fleets, the Megaroad-01 was just the first of its kind and the most infamous due to its disappearance and connections in Delta. The planet which the Varauta Army would later become arrived there in 2025 (iirc) in the Megaroad-13 for example. I don't know how many of them were built, but the highest number went up to Megaroad-24 and Megaroad-25...Which were destroyed during construction. -
I'm still wondering why we haven't heard anything from Nozomi since. But considering they were apparently recently bought by Crunchyroll....I don't wanna come to the worst conclusion, but it's mildly worrying. Seems to be the case, though I still think it's kinda funny that Timoshee from VF X2 has been working as a soldier since the SW1, and by 2051 he still looks like a somewhat young adult. Huh...I never really caught his last name! Kinda funny that him (at the very least his last name) and a SDFN class named after him would be the closest thing he'd be referenced by after the original series.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
TG Remix replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
I believe the Plus prequel novel also says something about Neumann being a child prodidgy, or at the very least working on the YF-19's development when the friendship between Isamu, Guld, and Myung broke apart. And speaking of Selzer's previous name, it seemed that some modern material (like The Ride) seems to suggest the DYRL naming scheme for Zentradi is leaning towards the """true""" names of uncultured Zentradi, and the "full" names they have like they did in the TV series seems to be after being enlightened of sorts. Oh wow, that's a lot. Unsurprising considering their role, but it's nice even up to Frontier they still go strong in such high amount of numbers. There's other factors to consider how widespread they are (overall fleet amount on planets and other colonies, coexisting with other variable craft, etc.) Does make me curious about how any planets or other astronomical bodies the UN has colonized. So I was curious and looked if the Master File got that from somewhere, or made it up (like the all-Zentradi pilot VF-19 fleet iirc.) Apparently it was in a kit, and man do they look stylish in black and grey. Was going through the Macross Technical Manual, and I was curious about the research about the Fleet count of the NUN military and the population of the New UN, but even with Internet Archive they seem to be eternally 404'd. Does anyone recount the info there, or is there new information about that since? Master File seems to be ripped with short, but great Macross stories all over the timeline. Official or not, I like how it makes the world in the franchise even bigger then the pockets or insight we see in the series. -

That's actually kind of impressive, if not mildly disturbing. You know what, those are very good points and characters I do like. And even though The Ride isn't translated in any compacity (that I know of) I do like Chelsea and her unique struggles from what I can gather. Really now? Guess I haven't been in that particular bubble of sci-fi to say otherwise, but I can see how it could be. That's a very good point. Apparently there is a unconfirmed planet under the star's habitable zone from observations in 1989, so there's a possibility they grabbed that chance when it revealed itself. -

Somehow the biggest piece of evidence that Frontier was the really rich colony out of the rich colonies. I bet not even Zentradi-only colonies would go this hard with macronized Zentradi life. 😆 Though Exsedol and Veffidas (at least before Fire Bomber) managed to live as giants in colonies, though that's almost definitely the minority. Being one out of 10 Zentradi fans in the world is just constant pain, I just want more Zentradi based Valkyries. Or series. Or characters who won't be red shirts/evil. Anything for that matter. 😭 Jokes aside, I had a stray thought about Eden. I'm kinda surprised that Macross Plus made a entirely fictional planet instead of using Proxima Centauri's exoplanets as the first space colony since the mass immigration, since it's been well known to exist since 1915 and the "close" proximity it is from Earth. -

Reading that I assumed the VA-14 was made bulkier then the VF-14 because Zentradi overall preferred something less fragile like the VF-11 and more durable that can last longer in endurance, like Zentradi technology usually is. Though if it's supposed to be a heavier version of the VF-14 (Which checks out with Kawamori's finalized design), it feels weird since it was already considered a Heavy fighter to begin with. -

For some reason I keep forgetting Manfred and his suspiciously similar colors Miriya's VF-17S had. Maybe it's precisely because of that. 😅 Liked the ominous music whenever he popped up too, especially when (according to the soundtrack name) it's from the Jamming Sound Device as well. I also keep forgetting Macross 30 has a story as well; I just don't think it's as well documented as VF-X2's. Time Travel is involved, iirc? It went back to even SDF, to an extent. While we know how much guns are attached and how many VF's and Destroids UN ships can hold, if any, the Zentradi warships are officially "many mecha" and "many weapons" to paraphrase. -
In all fairness considering how much Zentradi that fought alongside the SDF-1 Macross turned against humanity who were unable to get over their programming, the UN wouldn't bet to try to do this to every fleet they come across, least they end up with more glassed planets. Though I don't think it'd be impossible if more "culture-shock" incidents like the Chlore Fleet happened semi-frequently in the colonization in space.

The VF-17/VF-171 also has a good reputation in and out of universe, though it helps the VF-17 was tied to a major character in 7 and were never (barring Delta's involuntary instance) used as the antagonist Valkyries. And yeah, from what we could tell from the remains even the Zentradi-only (and presumably General Galaxy dominated) Macross 5 preferred the lightweight and versatile VF-11C as their main fighter instead of the VF-14, which shared a lot with their VA-14. -

Shame I can't get them now, but that's nice! Any new information that seemed to pop up? The more Macross goes on the more it feels like the VF-14 feels like the neglected weird middle sibling with an identity crisis. 😅😆 -
Something I've always been confused about is the notion that Gerwalks are pretty much useless in space. Granted in the TV series itseld they don't do much, but I like how they're used in DYRL, where it's more or less used as anchors for the Valkyrie to stop itself since there's no wind resistance in space. Maybe it's one of those technical movie-only things like how the VT-1 could land in water with no issue, but the Gerwalk is honestly a unsung/overlooked iconic part of the issue and it's mildly annoying when they pass it off. And speaking of the VF-1, I don't know if I missed something, but it seems like they're one of, if not the only Valkyrie model that has it's head turrets be able to turn instead of being fixed, much less being the turret under the canopy in Fighter Mode. I get the ones from the VF-11-onwards are useful for its blind spots, but at the same time it probably could also be useful as a quick-thinking weapon if a gun pod isn't available

Okay so I was just overthinking it the whole time. 😅It does make sense considering how huge the UN's sphere and control, much less the galaxy, is. Some parts of the galaxy wouldn't have Shinsei Industries to make stuff for them "in-house" so to speak. I think even on the Macross Mecha Manual page it's explained one of the reasons why the UN ships in Frontier look different then how they did in Plus/7 is because of different manufacturers, if not due to their date of construction. On a extended note it would definitely mean there's many, many, MANY more sub-variants of Valkyries, ships, etc. then we see onscreen.

Sorry for doubleposting, but I got curious of the existence of the VF-19/MG21. It's the Macross Galaxy licensed VF-19 yes, though that also means it was made by General Galaxy. Unless I'm overthinking this, but would they have the legal rights to make something their rival Shinsei Industry has made? Would this mean theoretically General Galaxy could make, I dunno, something like a Zentradi-type VF-11 then? Then again this is the Macross Galaxy, illegal operations is just how they roll.

Right, this game does have unique animated cutscenes. In the first level it even shows the SDF-1 and the Skull Squadron leaving earth right before the Zentradi glassed it from high heavens. I dunno how much it lines up with the movie (and, at least to me, it's implied Minmay has a sense of what happened on the planet), but I know the whole thing of "Zentradi having a jamming device to block out music specifically" doesn't at all, lol.

A part of me considering one of the concerts from Zettai Live!!! wonders if they'll go completely 3D. At this point I'd say their character animation in that field doesn't look bad in it, though I can imagine that being somehow more expensive. Honestly considering Kawamori usually goes forward within the franchise, I wouldn't mind if later down the road we get side-stuff that's not written/directed by him but still has the Macross feel, whether that'd be light novels (such as The Ride) or even a ONA of sorts from a previous time. Even though it's a dream that probably won't come, a part of me really wants a Gundam MSV type series where it showcases designs not particularly for a series but just to show off and make kits of, for Valkyries, Zentradi stuff, ships, etc. This is definitely not an excuse to finally get official designs for unseens like the VA-14, VAB-2, or YF-24, no siree. 😁

I dunno if it's me or not, but the one at the bottom middle seems two ship "arms" away from being a Zentradi-based Macross-type ship. They kinda look too..."triangular(?)" to be Kazutaka designs for the series; his ships had a lot of round edges and not like his later DYRL Meltradi ships. Wouldn't be surprised if these were from the Studio Nue animators themselves.

It is also noticeable that even the UN-built battleships had a slight nod to the appearance of their captured Zentradi ships, where the ships from Plus-onwards follow a more linear progression of the UN designs from SDFM. Though I did hear a interesting theory in a comment from a Macross Mecha Manual FB post that in universe (since the regular stealth frigate was design prior by Kazutaka) the Zentradi-Type Northampton was built first before refitted with NUNS technology. Would make sense considering how up until the Plus/7 era most of their ships that weren't ARMD or the rare Oberth ships were either captured Zentradi ships or visually similar looking (like the M3 battleship) Think it's even more apparent that all of the current VF's in MII was based on the Zentradi Valkyrie, which was made for cultured Zentradi that became apart of the UN (Kinda like the VA-14/VF-14, funny enough.) At least with the VF-1->VF-11->VF-19->etc. the current series is a lot more linear in terms of VF design, as opposed to the Gundam esque "throw on the wall and see what sticks" mentality. In a way, maybe. MII was more focused on the "more guns" ideology that Kawamori ironically steered away from. Unless you count the odd Armored Packs that continues to pop up. Though on the loose topic of VF design, I do wonder what was the VF-16 was at the very least, designed for. It's not like the other unknown designs (VF-5, VA-14, VAB-2) where we knew what role they held, but aside from a plot device for the VF-11MAXL Custom, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be in wide numbers like the VF-11, or a special forces unit.

Oh, I didn't even know those 20+ mentioned were solely the Sol System Thank you and goodnight! I'd assume they were all spread out in the galaxy. Remembering Macross: The Ride, Fasces acquired the Factory Satellite the Protodevlin used to make the Elgerzolns, Panzersoln's, etc. So I assume that used to belong to the Varauta government itself. On a side note, can imagine those belonging to the frontier fleets being a source of trading disputes and what not. B-52 variable bomber when? I don't believe a connection has ever been mentioned there. The Valkyries that HAVE been influenced by the Nousjadeul-Ger are, Variable Glaug excluded, all in the Macross II parellel world timeline. In hindsight the Variable Glaug's Battroid form is very Nousjadeul-Ger inspired, especially with the head and beam cannon. Pretty much the most "modern" equivalent of most Zentradi mechs. Kinda like how the YF-21/VF-22 is very Quadluun-Rau esque. Speaking of, since the Neo Glaug was a 4th generation Variable Fighter, I wonder if it was subjected to the same export restrictions the VF-19 and VF-22 did.
