Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3
Midi_Amp replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Stick to it my friend. I bought Alto's VF100 and amazingly disappointed on the part swapping mess, not to mention I cancel my preorder for VF100 Michel's custom. This monday I received my 1/72 Michel Custom + Super part... Completely forgotten the bad taste left by the VF100 line... Completely. Much more fun to build my own model kit than buying one mess of parts nightmare (although the VF100 VF25 fighter sculpt is very nice). -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3

No VF-171? Bummer... But VF-27 rocks! Its confused design of good & evilness is completely translated to the model kit. Not a fan of the visor flare on the fighter mode... But what can I say... Bring it Bandai! Edit: @wolfx, the Rae is 1/72 scale, most likely it will be a model kit, unless Bandai is splitting the DX to 1/60 and 1/72 size. -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3

It should be the final production colors... Low resolution photos usually does that, make the colors seemingly washed out and flat. The usual Bandai practice is to tease us with unpainted clay model, and then the "resin-y" built model and sometime upon release, a blurry/good enough shot of the final product... Well... At least that's my personal observation from collecting Gundam model kits for roughly 9 years. I sure hope the wing binder or whatever it's called is hollow enough to make it as light as possible. Really couldn't wait for my Mikhail + Super pack kit to come this weekend (hopefully)... My hands been itching to built this kit. Say, for any of you who have built a Gundam Master Grade kits, how does Macross F kits rate in assembly difficulty? The last time I built Master Grade kits are like 4-5 year ago and since switch to era specific (and cheaper) High Grade Universal Century line... Worried that my hand eye coordination aren't as good as it was. -
I too prefer the old valk designs, YF-19 and YF-21 especially struck a chord somewhere. VF-25 and VF-27 to me looks like supermodel on a diet, pretty at first glance but gets boring real quick. What I dislike about the VF-25 design is its head... Too complicated and technically speaking... The VF-25 supposed to be the pinnacle of valk design, but no internal missile bays? Heck, VF-19 has it, and it's 19 years prior to VF-25 debut. But for all the hullabaloo, it is stated that the VF-25 is developed independently by Macross Frontier fleet. As such, I believe Kawamori-san took a safe approach regarding the introduction of the VF-25. If the design is deemed awkward enough by the fans, Kawamori-san can just say... "well, it is made by some private company and has no heritage to the VF-1 project" and off he goes to the drawing board making VF-33 designed in the new series by the original Shinsei Industry taking design cues from whatever the fans wanted. It's business, it's safe and it's relevant.

Whoa... Didn't see THIS coming at all, so not Bandai. It took Bandai roughly 5 years to go from v1 to v1.5 for its ultra famous RX-78 Gundam model kit. For the VF100 it took Bandai only months to update. Well, I guess when it sucks, it sucks... I'm anxious to see how the v1.2 turns out. It's 0.2, so it might not warrant significant makeover, but it's still up in the air

Except for the nose section

Making the whole upper body/torso fully transformable seems easy enough. What I expect from future VF100s are partsforming without the need of extra parts. I believe Bandai is capable enough to make VF100 line transforming parts to detach and transforms rather than having lots of removable bits. Bandai could make the major body parts like torso, legs and arms to be removable, transforms and reattached to make the various modes of the Valks. Anyway... I'm holding my purchase of anything VF100 until I saw a thourough review for the VF-19. VF100 VF25 just left a pretty bad taste... Objectively... The VF-19 sculpt looks very good... The legs seems proportional, the waist seems to be held with a screw, and off course... the obvious open palm.

I just received my VF100 Alto Custom yesterday... And boy do I have some experience... Like Jenius review, first impression is great, the box is perfect for those MISB collectors. However, pulling the plastic tray out reveals 3 storey of madness! There are just too many parts. First impression aside, I took out the VF25 from its plastic tray and starts to toy with it... Argh... And that's the first word coming from my mouth. There's no problem with articulation (much), but the gripping hand just doesn't grip at all... Every shooting pose is like an advertisement of red bull energy drink, as this toy doesn't seem the strength to hold its weapon. Then the pointy intake hip just bumped straight into the nose section in batroid mode, I need to maneuver the hip around the nose section to pose the legs. In fact, the legs are not too poseable except for forward and back poses.. I might be too harsh on this toy as I collect Revoltechs, which have crazy articulation, so my expectation is a bit too high for the VF100. Then I decided to transforms the VF25 to fighter mode... And hey! What a surprise, there are not many parts to transform it actually. I only need to replace the head, the nose, the shoulders, the hip section, add a peg for the shield, and the vertical fins. In all, I just need one tray of parts (there are three trays of parts). Knowing Bandai, I expect some engineering magic, and there are some in the VF25. The replaced head holds the transforming part of the torso, and it does so very well. The thigh "flaps" secures the thigh (now the engine intake) to the main body of the fighter mode nicely... Although this is a feature found on the DX model. The amount of details are great and by far the fighter mode is my most favorite mode. However, another argh moments struck when I want to transform the toy to Gerwalk mode... For the leg to twist 90 degrees, it needs to be fitted with a module... Which are not nicely engineered. I don't know what the term is, but I need to jam the thigh and the module until it "clicks". But the material itself is kind of soft plastic, and my first attempt to transform the leg kills the left module, as its now too lose to hold the thigh in place... And here I am, stuck with Figther or Batroid mode for my VF100 VF25... To be frank, although it's priced for 5000 Yen, the VF100 line is the most affordable transforming Macross toy today. Another great premise is the complete line of Macross era Valkyries to be made. This is my first ever Macross toy, something that I can afford compared to Yamato and Bandai DX offerings. So I'm a bit forgiving for the partsforming notion, but sadly, the VF100 needs to be reworked to simplify the transformation and avoid constant snapping because in the end the joints will all be loose to a point it cannot be reconnected anymore. This is a toy right? I expect for the toy to withstand rough treatment compared to its model kit counterpart. I'm quite disappointed, but I hope Bandai reworks the VF100 line and give people with low disposable income a chance of owning their own fleet of Valkyries. And finally we come to conclusion... I'm canceling my VF100 VF25 Michael's custom preorder... Until that is, until Bandai re-engineers the VF100 line.

With all the negativity, it seems that I'm the only one left still excited about the VF100 line. Alto's unit is coming two weeks from now, and I pre-ordered Michael and Ozma's VF25. The price is still a heated debate, but three VF100 VF25 for one DX VF25... I'm willing to forego all the minus point. In fact, Bandai could cash in on a mini toolbox for the various parts. Still, objectively there are just too many parts. Hopes that Bandai will fix the VF100 concept like they swiftly fix the VF25 DX toy... Hey, Bandai only adds more holes on the DX VF25, but nevertheless, they are acknowledging the fact that there are flaws on the design.

Yup, this [VF100 VF25] Macross toy. Thanks for the info, my brother in law is still quite new to Singapore, so he might got lost without proper address. Thankfully, waterloo centre seems easy to find... At least on Google maps. I know it's small and doesn't have stellar reviews, but it's a Macross and first ever affordable transforming variable fighter available. As my disposable income for hobbies are just under US$25 per month... Try saving that for a Yamato/Bandai DX variable fighters, it will take a year's worth of saving before I can buy any hobby related stuff... Well, beggars can't be choosers
-
Anybody knows where I can buy this toy on Singapore? I saw at XL-Shop.com which is a Malaysian toy shop and they carries it... So shouldn't one be available somewhere in Singapore I live in Indonesia, and right now, all hell broke loose on the custom office... Every imported stuff tax is calculated with its shipping fee... Super crazy people working there. As I have a younger brother in law studying at Singapore, I might just asked him to buy it and carries it when he came home for holidays
-
Thanks for the stellar reviews Eriku and Vifam7, it seems that I'm buying one after all. What I don't get it still is that why some still call it overprice? It's obvious that the price is dead on, considering the intricacy design of the toy. Perhaps comparing it to Yamato GN-Us will spark another debate that the GN-Us are already overpriced, but given that the price is established, with GN-Us hovering around 3000 Yen, Revoltechs at 2000 Yen, the VF100 5000 Yen still make sense. It is transformable and faithfully replicates the on screen persona.

Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!

After seeing all those pictures, I'm pretty sure this is a must buy... But one thing that bugs me, does the parts have some locking mechanism? Don't want one of the leg starts to loose and dangles awkwardly in the distant future. -

Epic lol! I used google translate and lebanon also came up. Suffice to say that the original poster very adamant about the material quality. Still though, we don't know much without a proper review, as far as we know it, the original poster might have gotten his hopes or expectation too high. Thus, small matters becoming big matters... Perhaps, just my 0.2 cent. -

Am I seeing things or the cockpit in Batroid mode is a little too revealing? I see a slight part of the cockpit sticking out on the model kit yes, but not this much... The cockpit supposed to be a part of the torso Seeing that the hip is part of the partmorfing gimmick, the cockpit might have to move back a little more than model kit or the DX line. -

At 5000 yen, the price is actually falls quite comfortably between a non transforming highly articulated action figure and a transforming action figure. I considered Yamato's GN-U Macross series to be more expensive than the VF100 series at 3000 yen. For one thing the GN-U line is not transformable, and the articulation is not exactly superior than the VF100. At 5000 yen, the VF100 is priced just about right for me. -

The box design is less glamorous than what I imagine, but still good enough, it's the inside what we care about right. The overall design from both the VF25 and the VF19 actually doesn't suit my taste, as I prefer the model kit built proportion. But truth be told... Pronounced hip movement and the ensuing dynamic pose just decimates the overall proportion. Bring it Bandai, I'll buy each and every one of em (at least every unit not including the variations). -

Wow, I've been busy with the 1/72 Bandai model kit and totally oblivious about the VF-100's. Seeing that the VF-100's has clearer picture of what will be on sale, I'm probably ditching the Macross F model kit altogether for this line. A 1/100 scale toy with 5000 yen price totally fits my budget and my house... I was quite worried that anything bigger than a 1/100 scale (anything) would cramped my house. My wife already complaints about the abundant Revoltech and Gundam model kit strewn around the place, so a 1/100 valks are just what I need. Part swapping is a non issue for me, and what I love about the VF-100 is... Pronounced hip movement! -
Hi all, greetings from Indonesia... Been a lurker here for quite a while. But with Bandai releasing 1/72 Macross F model kit, I'm so gonna be active for quite sometimes.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models

Speechless... I was like... 5 minutes with my mind blank after seeing the three variants of the VF25. I would have content if Bandai just release Alto and Ozma VF25... Speechless... It's official, I'm throwing away my other plastic model collection for the Macross F plamo! -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models

Actually... I'm a little doubtful about Bandai will apply similar practice to the Macross Frontier line. I've been following Gundam and Gundam plastic model since 9 years ago... And one recent practices that I noticed is that, Bandai is pushing model kits alongside the show so the kit itself has more of a "connected" feeling with the onscreen persona. For the hardcore modelers it means to re-enact epic scenes as quickly as it shows on the screen... For the kids... Well... For them to re-enact epic scenes by smashing it as quickly as it shows on the screen. Well... Bandai do realize that those who spent for the MG lines are serious modelers so they will wait for a proper model to be released in MG form. Seeing that Macross F intricacy is a step above MG lines... Perhaps Bandai will make all the "hero" units for the Macross F, after all, there's only there's only three types of variable fighters VF25, VF27, and VF171. The super packs and the recon radome unit are considered universal attachment. So Bandai can cash in on recolors and everybody will be happy. -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models

Is this confirmed or still a wish list? I've been a lurker here for quite the longest time... Wanted to collect Macross toys but a couple years back gave up completely with my limited time to scour the world *cough*internet*cough* and finding a store/person who can ship one to this old backwater country of mine. Now with a lot of Bandai plastic model hobby stores all over my city my spirit is burning up again, as they bound to sell the Macross F kits.... Inflated price or not, I'm still going to get it (I got a compounding monthly budget of 2000 yen to buy model kits... Per agreement with my wife... At least she's still letting me buy stuff). So just wanted to know what comes after the VF25? Quite hard to follow Macross news... Everywhere it's just Gundam 00 or Naruto news, seems like Macross doesn't have much fan base following it anymore (they all seem to migrate here ) -
My friend found it on his attic and gave it to me... Missing front gear, missing bunny ear, and a very loose backpack... Pictures are resized because I use a shitty cameraphone and the original pics are blurry. Is this a 1/55 scale?
-
VF-1D I love grunt unit and the dual cockpit allures me.

I just visited robotech.com, and... I'm now completely stupified... I know this is probably a taboo to ask here... But in what scale are the robotech action figure? The new generation I mean (the goofy looking planes). Also, on that site, there's a couple of 1/55-65 scale of the VF-1 series, is there such a thing? Well, like I said before, this is my first purchase of a long lived passion, so I'm a bit cautious. Oh I'm also confused about the whole robotech-macross fiasco, but probably I will post it on the movies forum BTW, thanks for all the replies fellas, I have my eyes on the toy-wave first as it is located in HongKong, nearest to my place.
