The best thing I bought for my collections; Or you can swing by a dollarama get a makeup brush or something that works too. As for grease/dirt, wash hands well prior to or wear gloves.

I dig the museum pose! something very nostalgic about it. May I suggest a glass door to make your assets dustproof. If it's a IKEA, you can get an optional glass door thing. I can be somewhat OCD about dust setting on my collectibles. I dust all ma stuff all da time! Someone stop me please.

Wow that is a great price. You even get sales tax deducted from that as well (23,364 JPY). If only...

No crazy builds here but I got the waterslide decals from @Anasazi37 for dressing up DX DYRL VF-1’s. Man, talking about tiny, intricate decals! With my magnifier and shaky hands in I went for the job. What a difference the skull squadron insignia makes eh. Bandai could’ve omitted some of the mumbo jumbo decals and included this one instead. Been a while since I built anything to a completion but it was fun messing around on my bench. This is the aftermath of my attempts. I used Tamiya mark fit which is like a combination of micro set and sol. Do be careful following the instructions on the bottle which tells you to apply another layer on top.-It ripped the decal as it softens in my case. Just a dab of the stuff underneath a decal should suffice. One down, three (four if Bandai gives us Hikaru 1A) more to go!

Thanks @Saburo! I could say the same thing about your hangar shots!!! Great lighting and "drama" as I mentioned before...where does one score a hangar set like that.

I think y’all Roy and Super parts broken. I will take’em off your hands for free. TV super parts delivery came through at last yesterday from Kurama toys. As a member pointed out, they in Hong Kong, not Japan.

Happy New Year 2021 MWF!!! I couldn’t find a better place to post my inquiry but it is relevant to collecting so here it goes. This evening I was going through some stuff in my closet where my collection is stored. Some are bubble wrapped, some are in cardboard boxes. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it is a full-on infestation, however I did bump into a tiny silverfish. Hello & splat, no biggie right? but then I don’t like the idea of these crawlies residing in the closet taking advantage of my no direct sunlight rule. I’m sure you’ve had’em too somewhere along the way as a collector in your attic, storage room etc. What is the most effective way to deal with that?

Such a well-lit hangar! Love the posing of the two valks in the background with the engaged head hatch!

Thanks very much for the actual photos! Exactly what I was looking for, and these will do

Hi @Anasazi37, do you have the set on hand yet? If so how does it compare to Bandai DX pilot figures in terms of sculpt and quality. Since the product photo on Shapeways is a 3d image not an actual printed model, it is rather difficult to get a sense of the product. Thinking to get a set for converting Roy into tv Hikaru, thanks!

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

My god that is beautiful! In fact I am always inspired by your work, makes me really want to try that subtle weathering too BUT I always chicken out. Say, is this Flory wash or airbrush? -
I’m in the same boat, sent messages asking them to finalize shipping cost for me but they seem rather slow to respond.

Very nice! I need me an extra TV Hikaru figure..Can somebody make copies

I just got a reply from Kurama Toys as to why the shipping via DHL comes to $48 USD. Apparently the breakdown is 14.5+additional 33.5. I also get an impression from their wording that you can either take or leave it, and with me being the needy one here during the pandemic, suppose I may have to cough that up.
-
I got one set from Kurama toys and they are asking $48 USD to Ontario Canada. I asked them to kindly check again and provide dimensions and weight of their shipper box made out of steel.

You are a patient man. I have a TV SP preordered from Kurama toys but no updates from them yet.

My Youtube algorithm suggests that I watch this. A step closer to perfect transformation

As @Chronocidal mentioned, be careful with using thinner please because it will smudge and you will have to use even more thinner to get rid of that expanding smudge. The problem with that is thinner will ruin the factory semi-gloss finish, and the blemish left by thinner is quite unsightly. I've just done it on my Roy this weekend and the fix was to apply flat or semi-gloss coat over the area where thinner was used.

Do you have a replacement decal, who makes decals compatible with 1/48 DX Valks? Hasegawa?- I would love to get some tampo decals that work with the DX.

Hey @MWUser, unfortunately I did not take any before & after photos. I shall do so in the future as I am certain there will be a plenty more paint defects and assembly mishaps to follow from Bandai. Took these instead as I am done with Roy Focker; Don’t mind Roy in non space suit. This will do until DYRL Roy gets released.

@Lolicon, Finally someone who can empathize with me.. The ball joint isn't the tightest on Roy but I find that 'ricketiness' actually comes from the extending/sliding parts inside the head. With the head popped out, you will see that the parts has too much play side to side. To remedy this, I cut up a small piece of thick, super-sticky Gorilla tape, stuck it between and now the play is pretty much gone. I've also addressed all the paint flaws this weekend. A layer of top coat (flat or semi-gloss depending on the area) does wonders covering and evening out imperfections. Yes, an airbrush is preferred and masking sucks. Finally I can sleep at night. Time to dress it up and put up some photos

It is rather difficult to drive that spring pin out with a punch & hammer. Those suckers are in there tight. I actually tried but chickened out because I almost nicked the surrounding area hitting with a watchmaker’s mallet. The idea of custom DYRL Hikaru VF-1A is cool, I am surprised nobody has done it yet

As others implied, I am basically SOL. The toy in question was acquired via proxy shopping. It certainly isn’t FJ’s fault, nor the reseller’s of my choice on Rakuten, BUT I do despise Ban fraking Dai’s QC or the lack thereof. The heck with it, I will fix the paint flaws and loose joints to the best of my abilities. Who knows, I may fall in love with it in the process

My first Roy order was in the mail yesterday so I took my time getting acquainted & inspecting the toy as I usually do upon every unboxing. At least on my copy, it feels like the build quality, fit & finish isn’t as good as previous releases. I got the same paint rub as Wotafa’s copy seen on his Youtube review which suggests to me that we have a clumsy hand working down the assembly line. Also on my copy, the extending neck joint (the grey part inside if you pop the head) is way too loose that it might as well be a freaking bobblehead. Hey, that’s something new.. It is my fourth DX VF purchase and I’ve never been this unsatisfied. Bad finish overall including specks of black paint on yellow and yellow on black. Man, Bandai sucks for me right now. It looked pretty darn good sittin’ in the plastic tray for a minute or two, and that was it. Don’t think I am being overly nitpicky, I do take into account these are mass-produced. Hope y’all copy is better than mine.
