  1. I like green but man, this green does NOT go with those grays. The big bright red emblem doesn't help and the blue fold crystal... it's all very primary colors. I was fairly disappointed in my Hayate AX so this will be an easy skip. Mirage will probably be my last AX unless they really knock the next one out of the park.
  2. I've seen several other Fathom events (Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue, and a few Studio Ghibli Films) and this definitely stood out as the only one with particularly bad sound mixing. To be fair, I've seen Macross Plus a hundred times more than I've seen Perfect Blue, so naturally sound mix stuff is going to stand out more for me because I really wanted a perfect experience. There isn't really anyone else doing these kind of movie releases for older anime movies, so it's impossible to compare to a competitor. Overall, it was nice to see it in theaters, and I was super happy to support it; I'd just... kind of rather watch the OVA DVDs at home on my home theater setup I guess? Hopefully we get high-quality blu-ray releases of the movie and the OVA in the near future.
  3. Can agree with everyone else that the sound mixing was awful - VOICES was often way too high, I also got the weird Information High glitch on the center channel, etc. I haven't seen the movie version for 20 years (my last copy was on VHS), so I don't remember if it was the movie release in general or unique to this release, but I noticed they layered the song Bad Dog over several other Sharon Apple songs and it was SUPER distracting. Our theater was pretty full but as I mentioned before, I'm in the LA area and we get a bigger crowd for these things.
  4. Our screenings fill out for Fathom events, but it's usually a ton of animation industry people, so we're a special case.
  5. The pre-release product photos for her 31C were also red (because toy manufacturers are terrified if they make something vaguely pink, the male demographic won't buy it). I assume the actual product will be her normal magenta again.
  6. Yasuhiko could come out and say he was directing a remake of the SW Holiday Special and I'd still be pumped. His movies are rad and I'm excited to see what his take is. I know it's cool on the internet to react to news of everything with cynicism, but I'm not about that life. EDIT: Actually I thought about this more, and a Yasuhiko-directed remake of the animated sequence in the SWHS would be hella rad. It already has the cool Moebius design aesthetic.
  7. I actually had just ordered the MegaBox Deep One Elite, it looked like a pretty rad design. The Icarus doesn't seem as well executed, unfortunately.
  8. Thank you! A spudger looks like what I'll need. The best I had was a pair of microtweezers from a Gundam assembly kit and they were utterly useless for the task. Foolishly I thought the Elintseeker would be an easy packing job since I always left it in fighter and instead it's taken the longest, haha.
  9. Sorry for old thread necro. I'm moving and am packing up my robutts into their respective boxes, which means I've been trying off and on for two days to get the sensor array off of my Elintseeker's arm with no success. It's the last holdout on my Valks.* The side-to-side motion that got me through all my other Valks doesn't work with it because the rotation gimmick on the array means you're just moving the array and not the frame that's attached to the arm. Someone mentioned up thread using microtools, but I've been having trouble finding my set unfortunately - is that the best option? The frame fits so snugly onto the arm, I can't see even the finest of the tools I had getting inside. I can order another set off Amazon or something if that's the best option, though. Another person mentioned a hairdryer to loosen the plastic, I also have a heat gun but I'm worried that might be a little too strong and will damage the plastic. *Well, aside from the Sv-262 but my hands are already mincemeat from transforming so many robots, every edge of that thing is a sharp point, and transforming that thing is a nightmare in general so it's just going to get buried in bubble wrap.
  10. I am terrible at assembling kits but I'd still be down for one of these, I love the design of the Horizont.
  11. Ha, I actually bought a Beagle Stick from Mandarake last year (so many 2020 stress purchases), and he's still in the box because I know that as soon as I take him out, the fabric will disintegrate. I'm very much not a MISB person but it's a little different with a guaranteed failure like this. The fabric looks pretty decent at a glance, but you can see the cracks formed even in the box.
  12. HLJ came through for me! They've been a lot more reliable than AmiAmi has the last couple times.
  13. Same here. Honestly, it's a minor thing but I hate opening up the G. Danger to get to the batteries to remove them when I'm not going to be displaying the jaeger for a while, and then it's another thing floating around in my parts bin. The gimmick is never as cool as I want it to be to be worth the trouble/price. My memory isn't great, but I remembering watching one of @jenius' videos and the Kitz Concept VF-1's lights were a huge pain to turn on and off, too. The access to the light has to be accessible but not visible and designers seem to struggle with that.
  14. I have a Soul of Chogokin Gipsy Danger that has lights, but yeah, the DX Chogokin line has never had them to my knowledge. Lights in the wings in a mass-produced transformable fighter would seem like they'd be a huge pain. GD had the benefit of being non-transformable.
  15. I pre-ordered the Ivanov Sv-51, got one with bum ankles, sent it back, and was too scared to order another for a long time. It hung around at discount on the secondary market for a while, and I eventually got it for a discount. I might do the same with Nora, or just skip. The Sv-51 is really nice, but it's rather pricey. I highly doubt it's going to suffer from the pre-order madness that the GBP did; usually Arcadia units are pretty easy to snag in comparison. The Ivanov was pretty easy to pre-order if memory serves.
  16. The only issue I ever had with AmiAmi was when I had to return my Sv-51 because of the mismatched ankles. Returns there are really obnoxious. I still order most of my stuff through them, though, and they've always been super reliable delivering. I've never had an issue with HLJ, CDJapan, and Big In Japan either (other than that I wish BIJ would change their URL ). I'm never ordering from N-Y again, though; after a VF-1S and then especially the super parts fiasco, I'd rather just buy on ebay.
  17. Seconding this: I would 100% wait until release before ordering with NY. The secondary market markup isn't that much on these if you buy right at release, I've found. Sometimes it's honestly pretty close to retail. There were so many strike parts available on ebay for basically the same price I paid at NY when I was struggling to get them to respond to my e-mails about my strike parts.
  18. I got a confirmation at HLJ! I'm terrified to trust it, but I think I'm safe, haha. EDIT: Woo, confirmation e-mail, I'm safe!
  19. That's what it looks like - going to be terrified of losing those guys.
  20. Yeah I thought we'd get a day between the full announcement and pre-orders, dang. Guess I'll try for the set next week, dunno if I really need two VF-1Js though.
  21. I honestly don't remember any differences between the SDFM/DYRL GBP set, but the GBP set is barely in the movie so it's kind of hard to play spot-the-difference. I figure it'll just be the usual differences in the underlying Valk?
  22. I know it's canon in the show, but it never fails to make me laugh. I always assume it's another, smaller Shockwave, who in turn has his own small Shockwave.
  23. Haha, yeah, I pre-ordered it yesterday and they sure did take my money/send a confirmation e-mail, so they're pretty committed to the bit if it's an April Fools. Also, just doing a full, colored and molded plastic toy would be pretty heavy commitment on its own. I'm a little worried it'll be top-heavy with that big backpack and narrow legs/feet, but the design itself is pretty rad.
