Big West trademarks Macross in the UK

US courts are too dense to realize this. They're still gonna stick with HG's BS claims. -
Big West trademarks Macross in the UK
Solid Hayate replied to Marzan's topic in Movies and TV Series
I see Big West working with local streaming sites, such as Channel 4 (UK), bilibili (China), Anime on Demand (Germany), Anime Digital Network (France), wakanim.tv (France and the Nordic countries), and VVVVID (Italy). I can't really see them work with Crunchyroll or Funimation (definitely off-limits cuz Robotech) or HIDIVE -

That seems rather farfetched to put multiple different subtitle tracks beyond English and Japanese on the Japanese BDs. It would be easier to just work with local distributors (i.e. Madman in Australia, Anime Limited in the UK) and streaming services (i.e. AnimeLab in Australia, All4 in the UK). Even if Harmony Gold stops releasing Macross/Robotech merch cuz it's no longer even remotely profitable, they're not going to give up their claims to Macross. They'd rather go down with the ship than throw in the towel and sell off their remaining assets. Also the only way they'll go bankrupt is if they can no longer make enough from their real estate business (they started doing that in response to Saban hiring the majority of their employees by the late 80s). -

Macross is infamous for having expensive music licenses so there's that. -

Walkure came to America with that Anime Expo concert back in 2017 In America that is. They already tackled them elsewhere. Eventually, only the US will be surrounded by Big West Macross while HG tries to make one last futile stand (let's be real, the only way for HG to go OOB is if California passes laws that clamp down on housing prices (this would reduce profits from their real estate biz), and if Franky's name is found on the little black book of Jefffey Epstein) And that's exactly what HG is afraid of: deep down, they know Robotech is a failure and will never rise to any form of prominence (even on its best days, it was far from what say He-Man had), and the Macross fanbase is far larger than the Robotech fanbase (that's why they've been branding their recent merch under the Macross name to woo them in, but people are smart not to fall for it). Now let's see how HG will look once Frank Agrama's gone -

Big West will never yield to Harmony Gold, especially to a company whose members have a reputation for laundering and tax fraud. And HG can only inflate the price of the rights so much until they can't even profit from that. -

I take it this would make it easier for Harmony Gold to try to challenge Big West over in Canada and Mexico (and possibly get back Macross) if Big West should Big West reclaim Macross in those two countries. Harmony Gold will never give up whatever rights they have to Macross to them even when it's obvious they're not profitting from it. The only way out is for them to shut down. This is one of those scenarios where going bankrupt is going to be the best outcome. -

I see a UK dub more likely than an Australian dub. I'm talking about Canadian and Mexican trademark laws. And I take it Canada and Mexico are subject to US trademark laws. And Big West will just blockade Harmony Gold there, choking them out of any opportunities of profitting from China. -

I was brining up those two countries because if Big West gets those two then Big West can commission an English dub in Canada for the English-language audiences and a Latino Spanish dub in Mexico for the LatAm audiences. Also if Big West chooses to tackle those two countries, how difficult would it be for them to overturn HG's claims on Macross because NAFTA. Seems most of the Robotech revenue for HG comes from South America. Robotech is pretty much on life support, and Harmony Gold refuses to finance any more animated Robotech material (what most Robotech fans actually want) because they'd rather launder money, and any new Robotech material is increasingly low-quality. Perhaps the only way Robotech can rebound in any significant way is if Tatsunoko buys the Robotech IP from Harmony Gold's corpse. Otherwise, it will fall into obscurity (like it should have been long time ago) And Madman can start releasing the other Macrosses right now in Australia, and either Anime Limited or Manga Entertainment in the UK. -

A bit late but Australia outright terminated Harmony Gold's claims on Macross and gave it to Big West. Anyways, about NAFTA and its successor, how would it affect Big West's efforts to get into North America (omce they get the rest of the world) if they target either Canada or Mexico (the US will be dead last due to the way trademarks work there)? -
They haven't given out a response yet the EU copyright website hasn't updated anything beyond November 5.

Well, it's been more than 2 weeks since November 18. Wonder what the final results were; whether Harmony Gold finally lost Macross in the EU for good.

Anything involving Harmony Gold not losing anything will make social media freak out. And there will never be a new Robotech TV series of movie ever. It's only a matter of time until Frank Agrama's death puts Robotech and Harmony Gold to sleep.

So, Funimation is going to stream Robotech worldwide it seems. Looks like HG is retaliating in response to Big West's victories in Australia, the UK and now China.

The same as US copyright law or EU/UK/Australia copyright law cuz I heard the US is different from the rest of the world (at least in the aspect of what determines copyright ownership: US copyright laws favor the first user of a mark over the actual owner of the brand/property whilst it's the opposite in virtually the rest of the world)

A little bit off topic, but how does Canadian copyright law compare to the US and the UK+EU (as well as Australia). I'm bringing this up cuz I can imagine that Canada's copyright laws might have been skewed towards the US and if Canada pulls an Australia

Robotech has always been in dire straights for almost 3 decades. There's just absolutely no way anyone worth their salt is seriously going to work with them, as their notoriety, infamy and hate make associating with them a reputational death sentence.

Though not without trying. Recall that Anime Limited (in tandem with Comix Wave) handled the localization and was the one who paid for the dub of Your Name. All they have to do is just have Delta be recorded in the UK instead of the US or Canada (where HG has rights to it) The least AL and Big West could do is just release a sub-only release of Delta and the others.

So... Anyways, now that Big West owns the Macross trademark on the UK, do you think they would partner with an anime company to release Delta on BD (British-dubbed Delta anyone?). It's probably not going to be Manga UK (cuz Sony and their never-to-be-made Robotech movie)
