  1. That looks like a cool figure, what is it?
  2. I think it missed us unfortunately, but it may be a sign of more to come soon.
  3. Wow, you managed to get one of the rare 1:1 scale toys!? Congrats. Mazda makes amazing toys. OOOOH, and a stick shift too! And a hard top. noice. Uh, you might have a leak tho, behind the front wheel? It's probably from the right arm transformation hydraulics.
  4. Not exactly toys, but I'll have fun building them and organizing displays for my Macross, figures, and Aliens in them. I got 3 detolfs and a cabinet to put them on. Should be over 7' with storage below and no displays sitting unseen on the floor. Gotta get some LED strip lights tho.
  5. I was thinking of using "Plastruct" colored acrylic rods of varying sizes available on Amazon for laser beams. Has anyone else used these? I've seen someone make them out of EL light wire for a BotW display, but it wasn't straight. The rods are solid supposedly, should be better if not glowing. But glowing takes batteries so you never use it anyway.
  6. Rather than post a one off tip that gets lost, I figured I'd start a thread where we can share our scratch built effects that I've seen others do. Please share what you've made here. I just posted this display over on the strike a pose thread, but wanted to detail what I did to make really cool looking con trails. These would work really well for missile effects. I didn't think standard white pipe cleaners from the craft store would come out very well, but then I remembered I already had some ACTUAL pipe cleaners from my pipe smoking days. They are much more woolen and less stark white than craft pipe cleaners. For the fan racer, I wanted to have individual streams for the tiny rockets, so I split the wire ends of 3 of them, straightened them, glued them in as precisely as I could, and painted the ends with a light coat of flat white (again so it wasn't stark white). Here's the brand of pipe cleaners I used. They're cotton not the acrylic used on most craft store pipe cleaners which makes for a more accurate look imho. Oh, and make sure you don't get the bristled kind which have red spikes... unless you're into that, lol.
  7. Fixed, thanks. Shoulda known better than to try to play it fast and dirty by just copying and pasting from Google pics. But it's kinduva pain on a chromebook when you have to download every pic first.
  8. So I got the final piece of this display in the mail today, the microphone... and it promptly fell apart in my hands. So I had to take some scrap bits from my RPG Tactics minis and carve out a mic holder. I haven't applied any decals to the angel birds yet, but I'm not sure it's really necessary. I'm really happy with how the con trails came out with actual pipe cleaners (I used to smoke one) which aren't stark white like craft pipe cleaners and have a more woolen feel which makes for a more smoke like texture than sharp fibers sticking out. I took about 15 kajillion pics playing with lighting and angles, etc.. I'm not very good at it, but here's the best of the bunch. I like what I got here with just my phone camera and living room lamps. The forced perspective was fun to play with. HEEE KAH ROO!
  9. Just got my Roy finally and recently picked up the RPG Tactics game purely for the minis so that I can display them with the SDF-1 in the ep1 scene. Also got a fan racer from @Xigfrid Shapeways store. Now I just need a stand mic. I figured since I'm missing a few key pieces from my collection, they could be filled nicely with available minis from this set and kids logic.
  10. Yeah, that's the same shapeways store I got the bike from, and the unpainted kit is $280! Way too much for a kit imho.
  11. Does anyone have a side by side pic of the minitech next to palladium figures? I need to see if they're marginally compatible before I drop $60 on minitechs. Doesn't have to be the same figures. There's just a few oddballs I can only get from the minitech line. Edit, nvrmnd, I found a pic. They're a good bit smaller as I thought.
  12. Oooh, cool! What is it? The only ones in scale that I've seen were... well over $200 iirc, but it's been a while since I tried, and I may not be searching properly. Thought I remembered one on shapeways, but it was really expensive iirc. Considering that it doesn't need to transform or have any features that I need, I'd love to find a model kit or just a lump of 3d print for less than $60, but I'd certainly buy a full on toy for... hmm, $150ish max.
  13. While I was getting the tiny fan racer at shapeways, I also picked up Isamu's bike for my Macross Plus display. Really wish I could find a reasonably priced X9 ghost.
  14. So, I'm no modeler, at least not on the level some of you are. But there were quite a few omissions from my toy collection that looked like they could be nicely filled by the minis included in the Robotech tactics RPG set, and maybe some of the Minitech ones (altho, they seem a bit smaller scale). So I bought some model paint and the main game set. The first thing I'm going for is the 5 Angel Birds and fan racer in time for the Kitzconcepts Roy release to recreate the scene with my Matchbox SDF-1 where he's yelling at Hikaru as they go into a climb. Anyway, here's my progress so far:
  15. Nice job @no3Ljm! But how is he pulling the trigger?

    Macross figures

GAH! I want mine already! It's been stuck "in transit" from LA for 4 freakin days now! I'm just about done with my angel bird and fan racer display and I need Roy to complete it (and it looks like he comes with the perfect yelling-at-Hikaru face). Now if I can just find a decent looking 1/12 stand mic...

    Macross figures

Looks pretty much on point to me. He IS a different scale: European scale vs Asian. Humans come in a whole range of sizes for every need. Get yours today!
  18. That's what I was talking about. It's called the X-base system. You have to buy tiny LEDs that work with it and each have their own independent power coils that pick up power from the base. Pretty neat idea, but for one, the LEDs are 4.5mm cubes(ish) which are a bit big for all but larger body parts, and secondly, I'd hate to see the radiated emissions on that product. I don't think it's licensed for sale in the US or anywhere else for that matter, and I highly doubt it would pass any emissions or regulatory testing. Wow, a cheap chinese knockoff of unregulated chinese product! Or just a cheapo rebrand to sell off returns/cast offs of the orginal? It's $76 vs $200 for the original. In either case, I wouldn't want to put my hand anywhere near that thing when plugged in, especially since they don't advertise what frequencies they use. There's very good reasons for regulatory and emissions testing. Correction, looks like it's the typical chinese selling products that they make for the Japanese market at half the cost of the markup, so it's probably not an emissions disaster like I thought. But I'm not familiar with Japanese regulatory.
  19. Any toy made for display like these that have lights in them need to have proximity sensors and/or (at least) auto off function. I have the big NECA Gypsy Danger and the lights sucked, took out the batteries immediately to keep them from leaking which is the other problem with electronics in these toys. Wireless power is a thing now, just have it turn on with the base. That X-base thing was cool but very expensive. I like lights, but it can't just be something you just throw in as an afterthought with a switch and power. I'd happily pay double if properly designed.
  20. Was it this one? Unfortunately, it doesn't show the back. This page shows some macross stuff inside tho. Here we go, Amazon has more pics.
  21. If anyone is in the market, Ikea has lowered the price of detolfs to $60. The white "milsbo" was on sale for $170ish but now it looks to have gone back up to $230. Still not bad for the size, but I think I'll pick up a couple detolfs instead.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

Just keep airflow, humidity, and wall temperature in mind. After living in my house for a couple of years, I found that my outside walls aren't insulated (just block with an air gap to the plaster) and the books and manga I had against them were moldy.
  23. WOW! This HMR Monster is incredible. Truly this has to be their best piece from the HMR releases. I can't believe even the soles of the feet are articulated. Check out this crazy pose! Even all the little red lights are articulated. The detail is astounding in person (to me at least). So glad I decided to spring for this one. BTW, which episode shows the Monster in battle action? I remember an ep where it comes out and crushes the deck dramatically, but I can't seem to find it. That makes no sense tho. In Ep5 they show it being hauled around by loading straps easily enough, and the ship has artificial gravity that can be modified on a whim, why would it be turned up high enough to crush the deck? I presume it's to keep it from toppling off or away upon firing, but... they couldn't have used magnets or something? Lol, anyway... And the Arcadia GBP is no less amazing. The quality of the Arcadia KO that I first bought (before I knew it was a knock off in my defense) is no match for this. Everything is so crisp, clean, and tight. Although, I'm not looking forward to having to apply decals. I'm constantly amazed at how well toy engineers have been able to bring these to life from a freakin cartoon from the 80's, not to mention are STILL making them better and better! I'm truly thankful to have found this forum and these toys. Thank you! And I really like this view of the exhaust ports for some reason. The gold is such a nice touch!
  24. Mucho arigato @Alphahorizon! Everything arrived in very good order. I feel sorta guilty opening the still sealed Monster. And this will be my first Arcadia as well as my first GBP... well first official one. Gonna be a fun Saturday!
