    Macross figures

Does anyone know anything about the Playmax Misa Hayase preorder and why it got moved back into April? It was said to be released in March when I ordered it, but now it's not due until April 30th (according to NY). I hope Kitzconcepts comes out with a more pose-able version eventually, but this one will have to do... if it ever gets released.
  2. Is poison really necessary on top of being an acid strong enough to melt through steel? I mean maybe predator can take it on in a physical fight, but I still don't think poison is really adding much to a zenomorph. On a more serious note, what canon does this come from? Edit: Looked it up and it came from Dark Horse Comics Alien series. Supposedly, it only spits acid, not poisonous acid. I only assumed from the blue/purple fangs and... hood... talon... things.

They're non scale, too small to pair with HMR, the plastic is cheap, and the joints don't hold well. It will pose well enough, but never the way you want. But, for $40 vs $140+ for an HMR, at least I have one regult, so... meh.
  4. Is everyone else able to see those in @enphily 's post? I was only able to see them in @Alphahorizon's quote where they show up like links and open in a new window. Even then, they didn't want to show up very well. Just wondering if it's my browser of a site issue. I see this from time to time on this site.

    Moved up from 4/30 apparently.
  6. Yup, I have proudly blown through all 12 steps thanks to this great anonymous support group for people who misguidedly feel the need to stop spending money on Macross toys, not to mention others. I see such great stuff on this thread, keep it coming. We all need more support for our serious frugality problems! You just HAVE to stop telling yourself "no" all the time. As any millennial parent will tell you, it's an extremely unhealthy attitude.
  7. Has anyone tried this for yellowed plastic?

Wait, they can make a skin tight, fabric flight suit for Hikaru, but they can't make Minmei's sleeves flexible?!

  10. LOL, I just stumbled onto this on Mandarake. Looks like the V.F.G. thing isn't without precedent! Who knew? No really, did anyone know about this?
  11. I liked it even though some complained of the discolored joints (but I kinda like that, lends realism I guess). It's nice to have a decent articulated figure (other than the silly sleeves getting in the way). My complaints are mostly with the display stand that doesn't fit, you have to remove the bow to use it, and the hair gets in the way. It's also expensive and robotech branded $#%@ you harmony gold!
  12. I wonder if the tech of Macross ever evolved past heavy and delicate hydraulics and wires for power and data transmission. But I think I'm stepping into a quagmire under the guise of geeking out about this stuff when I'm not even really familiar with technical canons. I guess I need to rewatch everything to keep an eye out for what it looks like when a valk gets an arm/head ripped off. Speaking of questioning Macross tech, if these things have nuclear thrusters designed for use in space, why do they need intakes at all?

I gotta stay off of this site. You guys are always making me want more! I've never seen where this came from, and thus wasn't all that interested, but after seeing everyone get excited about it, I decided to look it up and watch it in action. Awesome! Now I want one!
  14. The trim tools are like toys to me, and I finally get to watch Delta. I already bought a VF-31J VFG and a Figuarts Freyja, but they haven't arrived yet. Hopefully the show doesn't completely turn me off before the toys arrive. Edit: Definitely not turned off. Wondering why I keep getting told to skip the show for the movie. Guess I'll see...
  15. Technically possible.

Shipping costs to the ISS are now down to a measly $1700/kg thanks to SpaceX, although I would think return shipping would be free since there's always room on the way back and it has to come down anyway.
  17. I can see a human limited mental block being a limitation, but certainly not an insurmountable one, especially with manual controls. And the rear facing guns in other modes further that point as they would most likely be using the same controls (I would assume a small thumb stick on either/both hand controls). I would also argue that, with proper training and considering the human brain's plasticity, even an EX-Gear pilot could learn to use his valk in wacky, unexpected ways (which I would also argue could really screw with your enemies head).
  18. @Shizuka the CatI really wanna continue this discussion, but the new toy thread is perhaps not the best place. Would a moderator be able to move this to a thread of my creation perhaps? Let's see, where's the geeking out about Macross section... Here we go!
  19. @Shizuka the Cat , I, and others were just having an off topic discussion in the new toy thread that I really want to continue, so I thought I'd make a new thread here. To summarize, Shizuka was turned off by the anthropomorphization of (giving human characteristics to) the robots of Transformers, to which I replied that Macross was just as guilty of that. (Please feel free to elaborate on my summary here Shizuka). I went on to ask why is it that the battroid mode is limited to human ranges of motion when a) the mechanical joints are obviously capable of much more, b) it would be tactically much better to use the extended range of those joints, and c) it's not like the human pilot is using his own body as a mirrored control of this form, as it seems mostly computer controlled with general flight stick and touchscreen control with intelligent background automation? Are there any instances in any Macross series of a valk going beyond the human range of motion?
  20. I'm not much of a Transformers fan these days (although as a child I was huge fan), but if you're turned off by the anthropomorphization (say that 10x fast) of robots, then Macross is just as guilty of that. Not to call you out Shizuka but rather to bring up the question, why is it that the battroid mode is limited to human ranges of motion when a) the mechanical joints are obviously capable of much more, b) it would be tactically much better to use the extended range of those joints, and c) it's not like the human pilot is using his own body as a mirrored control of this form, as it seems mostly computer controlled with general flight stick and touchscreen control with intelligent background automation? I think I'll start trying some controversial posing with that in mind.

Hmm... I wonder if they'd send me a new head cannon. Has anyone else asked for a new one?

Push the issue with Amazon if you have to, but they are awesome about backing up sales even if it wasn't fulfilled by them. I bought a cell phone from a shady seller once, and when I went to activate it, it came up that the previous owner hadn't paid for it, thus was technically stolen. I wasn't about to send back stolen goods for them to rip off someone else, so I took it to the police, got a case number and requested a refund which the seller of course wouldn't give me without the goods returned (got pretty po'd about it too). But Amazon did... after a few phone calls, emails, and giving the seller a chance to do right. I don't know how that seller is still on Amazon since they are still getting negative reviews for shady cell phones (among other things). Amazon is pretty awful about keeping track of shady sellers, dispute resolution, and communications, but they do a great job of keeping customers happy otherwise.

My Hikaru fell off of a shelf from 7ft high and handled it like a boss. My 4yr old daughter is kinda rough on them (well supervised of course), and they certainly don't seem too delicate. I'm a big fan of these, but then I haven't had them for very long. I do play with them on the regular though, maybe once a week give or take.

If you're worried because the hips are really stiff, I highly recommend loosening up the socket by removing the leg and loosening the 2 screws on the socket inside slightly by steps until it feels more maneuverable. This made mine go from feeling like I was going to break it if I moved it to being perfectly flexible yet pose-able. I wouldn't recommend leaving it as is if you plan on moving those hips at all because the plastic around the hip on the leg looks like it would have broken on mine if I had forced it.
