Macross Zero Website Problems with Mac OS X
ewilen replied to ewilen's topic in Movies and TV Series
What browser/OS are you using? I can also access it fine under Mac OS 9 or in Classic mode under OS X; the problem only happens for me when I use a native Mac OS X browser. -
I'm sure HG/Toynami have just as much a right to do an Orguss Valkyrie toy as they do to make a YF-1R. Possibly more, since it's been pointed out that the YF-1R's design isn't exactly what is shown in SDF Macross. But I doubt HG/Toynami would ever make it, since it looks funny and has little significance to the Robotech fanbase. Now, if Yamato made an Orguss Valkyrie, it would be a cool toy that might even have a market. (Kanata67 is likely to beat them to it, though.) I can just imagine HG/Toynami making a handheld "SDF-1 Bridge Viewscreen" game on which you can play that old Star Trek game.

I wonder if anyone else has tried to access the official Macross Zero website (http://www.macross.co.jp/zero/) using a web browser under Mac OS X. I've tried it with a variety of browsers: Netscape 7.1 (native), Safari, MSIE 5.2 (native), and the Gallery section doesn't work properly with any of them. Instead, I get a message saying that a Flash script is causing the page to run slowly. Aborting the script makes the Gallery go haywire, though interestingly it causes Hikaru to show up in the character list! Could be a remnant of data used to test the site...or it could be something that isn't supposed to be activated yet. I just upgrade to Shockwave Flash plug-in 7.0.14.0, which I believe is the latest, but that doesn't seem to help. (Only tested under Netscape so far.)

Thanks, I was hoping you'd answer, David. I didn't understand what spoilers were until your reply (and some searching prompted thereby). For anyone who's curious, these two web pages are probably a good introduction to how spoilers and ailerons differ (and how they each work): http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/spoil.html http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/alr.html Probably also a lot of other good stuff at that site.

On a related note, how do we suppose that the VF-1 manages without elevators? Delta wing planes have elevons, but that's not an option on a variable geometry aircraft, is it? I see several possibilities for the VF-1: 1) Thrust vectoring (swivelling) of the main engine nozzles. 2) Use of the vernier thrusters. 3) Coordinated use of the canted rudders. (Pushing both rudders in should push the tail down, but I don't think pushing both rudders out would push the tail up.) 4) Some combination of 1-3 above. Here's what the Compendium says: If I read this correctly, the VF-1 not only doesn't have conventional elevators, it doesn't even have ailerons. It uses the engine nozzles instead of elevators, and the wing thrusters for roll. Comments?

Here's one that's not on the MW main pages. It's probably the full-length version (no edits, or just a few).

[i had uploaded some box pictures before I realized they're all on the MW main pages. Click here to see them.]

If you go to http://www.anime.net/macross/production/an..._remember_love/ and search on "English" you come up with the following. (I've edited and rearranged a bit for brevity and clarity.) Super Spacefortress Macross Video Tape 115 minutes, color, monoaural, English-dubbed Victor Entertainment 1987 March 5 Super Spacefortress Macross Laser Disc 120 minutes, color, digital stereo, English-dubbed, Japanese-subtitled Victor Entertainment 1987 April 21 (discontinued) Clash of the Bionoids (North America Release) Video Tape 90 minutes (edited for content), color, English-dubbed Best Film & Video Superdimensional Fortress Macross Video Tape 115 minutes, color, English-dubbed Best Film & Video 1995 July 11 Clash of the Bionoids (UK Release) Video Tape 90 minutes, color, English-dubbed [Removed box pictures...see next post for why]

There aren't any "officially" released dubs of M7 or M0; I doubt there are any of Flashback 2012. As for the movie, I know that there have been more than two different English language releases--though aside from the editing, they may only differ in terms of videotape box design. In addition to the "Robotech" dub of Superdimensional Fortress Macross, there was a dub done in the Philippines. Also an abortive effort by HG to do SDF Macross "straight", before they decided to edit it into Robotech. Info on both are in this thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...&hl=phillipines

If you haven't checked out the toy section of the main page, look here: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/_.../_toys_arii.htm The pics may not be quite as detailed as you need, but they're a start. Also note the description.

The Simpsons started as a bunch of animated shorts for the Tracey Ullman show, which were shown before and after commercial breaks. Here's a good guide I came across while verifying my recollection: http://www.snpp.com/guides/tracey.ullman.html Also, minor correction, the Japanese cartoon in the episode "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo" was "Battling Seizure Robots".

I don't think you'll ever see those in a toy, but here's hoping they at least do a VF-4.
-
I don't know about 1/48, but there really should be a VF-4 in 1/60. Between the TV series and Flashback 2012, I'll bet the VF-4 has had more screen time than the VE-1.

Salut, varitechs, and welcome to MacrossWorld? Am I correct that you are the proprietor of the (excellent) mospeada.free.fr? I hope you don't mind me linking to your pictures from time to time. Can you tell me what the "H.S." in "H.S. Espace" signifies?
-
Don't know about that, but maybe they redesigned it that way since it's harder for the corners of a square peg to "round off" and slip than the corners of a hexagonal peg.

Meaning higher per-unit cost of production. I doubt it'll work out. Still, in 10-20 years, they may be collector's items. Question: where are MPC's produced? Because if, like practically everthing else these days, they're made in China, then why do they cost nearly the same (domestic US prices vs. domestic Japan prices) as Yammie 1/48's, which aside from semi-subjective issues of quality, are clearly more complex (and bigger)?
-
If it helps, here are the other Hergoss pics from mospeada.free.fr:

Correction: extend their losses. Considering what all the surplus MPC's go for on eBay, how many retailers are even going to carry this one?
-
Yup, I also like the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack. The Naked Lunch has a great soundtrack, too. JsArclight, it might be a good substitute for that space music... Speaking of which: http://www.hos.com/

I actually prefer the movie, even though it's drastically cut down relative to the manga. Why? Because the manga seems to run out of steam about 2/3-3/4 of the way through, and then gets wrapped up a huge amount of dialogue and hand-waving. Up to that point, it's fantastic, though.
-
Here's what mospeada.free.fr says about it: Translation: I don't know what "H.S." stands for but I'm sure it will be obvious to a French person--anyone?
-
There are also pics at http://mospeada.free.fr but they may be copied from elsewhere. Regarding orthography, in French and German, "Valkyrie" is spelled with a "W".

Yes, but I was more into it in high school and college, less so now. How's that for an inversion of expectations? However, since my wife is taking piano lessons, I'm getting back into it. I like pretty much all the famous composers, except that Brahms often bores me and Mozart sometimes seems overly mechanical instead of genius. I have a soft spot for the Russian romantics (Rimsky Korsakov and Borodin especially, and of course Tchaikovsky although he technically wasn't a romantic). Beethoven and Bach are probably my favorites. If you think you don't like classical music, watch 2001 or Fantasia...

You can get a Chinese-made DVD player for $30-$40 these days, so for $130-$140 you can have a Game Cube and a DVD player... And DVD players are becoming more and more common. How many people who already have DVD players are looking to get a console? Probably lots. Bottom line: I think the ability to play DVD's is rapidly fading in importance.
