  1. Now that you mention it, that's a possible direction for the story, but I agree it would be awful. At least, I doubt that Mao is going to end up being a tragic figure, if only because they decided to make a cute statue of her in one of the recent toy collections. As for the glowing thing, I'm also pretty sure it's the same thing that was under water with the big eye, and that it is the AFOS head. Otherwise, the storytellers did a terrible job of explaining what's going on. I think perhaps the object's shape when being carried is because the "tentacles" surrounding the head are "closed up" into a point. Edit: Like GobotFool says below.
  2. Oh I am just saying Quicktime doesn't play DivX on my Windows system. I don't know anything about the MAC version of Quicktime. I guess you can make it work since the player just has to find the correct codec just like Windows media player. First, was it really necessary to quote my entire message just to add that? Second, no, unfortunately, my Quicktime player didn't automatically find those codecs. Sometimes it tries to locate codecs it needs, but it didn't find these. I had to locate and install them myself. Third, many of the sites to which I provided links are for multiple platforms. It's quite possible that someone who prefers QT Player (or whatever) to WMP on could use those resources to get their player to work with the movies under Windows, Linux, etc.
  3. And Shin kills Nora's in return.
  4. Isn't that "Lili Marleen"? (edited for spelling)
  5. I don't think Quicktime can play DivX avi files. It will play mp4 and regular avi files however. I'm running Quicktime under Mac OS X and I can play the file fine with Quicktime Player. (The only problem is when I try to use the "reverse" button, QT Player quits.) Here's the secret, at least if you have a similar setup. Might apply to other setups as well. To get the video to work, you must install the 3ivX component. It's available at http://www.3ivx.com/download/ I was using version 4.0.4 which worked; now I've updated to 4.5 and that also works. Note that DivX Doctor II is recommended (also available from the same page) and DivX Doctor II in turn recommends some other stuff. I don't know if any of those are required, but they probably can't hurt. (I'm not sure which of those other things I have installed.) You should also install the DivX component at http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/ (look elsewhere on the site for other platforms) to make the following item work. It might help in other ways, too. For the audio, I'm using the plugin available at http://www.insaneness.com/ac3.html If for some reason you can't get the audio codec to work, you could use DivX Doctor II to rip out the audio, then convert it with mAC3dec to AIFF, and finally run it simultaneously with the video in another window. With a little fiddling you can get it to synch. Primitive, but it works. In general, http://www.mpegx.com/index.php is an excellent source for the latest video and audio software. (But I don't think they have a link to the Mac AC3 codec.)
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...gory=36568&rd=1 Looks kind of old. Bootleg? Transformable? Size/quality? Looks like it might be a little better than the Mark/Select "Convertors" from way back when.
  7. Did pilots get credits toward becoming an ace for shooting down V1's?
  8. Yes, the Matsushiro has the logo and is apparently identical to a Takatoku in all the writing. The sticker sheet is also identical down the to pilot's name. The box is slightly redesigned (mainly to get rid of all the Macross stuff), and the instructions are similarly changed. (The owner of a set of 1/55 Matsushiro instructions graciously scanned them for me, since my Matsushiro didn't have them.) Unfortunately, I don't have a Takatoku to compare to, to see for sure if there is a difference in the plastic or anything else. My earlier notes on the Matsushiro are in this thread.
  9. I agree with the others, Lucifer. If you can possibly avoid selling your stuff, you'll be happy in a few decades when you can look at them. I pretty much lost interest in my old (12") GI Joes and Aurora Prehistoric Scenes model kits during my teens and college years, but I managed to salvage a lot them when my parents moved and I'm glad I did. I only wish I'd taken better care of them when I was a kid. If you do have to sell, you'll probably get the best value by putting them eBay individually. Big lots always sell at a big discount, or they don't sell at all if there's a high reserve. Also, be sure to include pictures (YOUR OWN, not copied from someone else), because an auction without any pictures almost always goes for less. Edit: but you can save on eBay fees if you list everything here first. Just read a few listings in the For Sale section to see how we do things.
  10. Yes, it could be a Matsushiro. That might be even be more likely than a Takatoku in the U.K. But without the box, you might not be able to tell. If there's any physical difference at all between a Takatoku and a Matsushiro, it's probably the color of the triggers for the landing gear. Compare those and see. Supposedly Matsushiro = black and Takatoku = grey, but that might not apply to all Takatokus. There's a long review on Masterforce, and I also posted a summary with other info a while back--not sure if it's on the current forums or just in the archives.
  11. I've only seen a fraction of M7 but I think the in-story reason is "because their pilots want them to look that way".
  12. Not exactly an Orguss. It was an "Orguss Valkyrie".
  13. I don't think so. Egan Loo says that Kawamori and Masahiro Chiba use the TV continuity as the background for all the Macross projects. http://macross.anime.net/story/encyclopedi...roduction_notes Not sure about the color scheme/main cannon issue. If you're saying that they're different from M+, that's an interesting point. But in any case, can't we just assume (for the sake of the Movie in a Movie retcon) that the appearance of the Macross in DYRL simply reflects its appearance at the time the movie was filmed? M+ occurs in 2040, while the movie-within-a-movie was made in 2031.
  14. I sent the seller a note before I saw this thread. You can probably get all the info you'd want on the Orguss toys at http://www.toyboxdx.com/data/takatoku2/orguss1.html
  15. The link to the forums which is under the News/Updates section still points to http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi
  16. I was just thinking that. Would make things interesting. I've been doing quite a bit of research on this issue over the last couple weeks. Hopefully I'll have something to post in the license debate topic soon.

    Zentraedi Kits

But may do one in the near future with an opening canopy and cockpit and even a pilot... 1/72, 1/60, or ...?
  18. Nice Rabbit! Is your green SDF-3 based on any pictures in particular, or did you dream it up entirely on your own?

    VF-0 toys?

There have already been two threads arguing about how the VF-0 relates to the VF-1, which one is "more advanced", etc. For reference, here are the links: Does it bug anyone else? Valkyrie Development History A lot of ground was covered in those threads (especially the second). Edit: But I'd like to draw out one point. Aegis writes: While the Chronology has: The dates Aegis uses in his argument may have been correct at one time, but they do not match the current official chronology.
  20. No offense, but I'd hate to see this if it came at the expense of not getting sets of mecha in the same scale (at least across each series/movie/OVA). What I'd like to see most is a full line of Macross TV and/or DYRL destroids and enemy mecha in 1/60 scale. Plus the VF-4 in the same scale. If not included with the enemy mecha, I'd also like to see a few 1/60 Zentradi figures in the various uniforms; some articulation would be nice, but not at the expense of looks.
  21. I don't know what a "free talk forum" would be, but it sounds like it would use up a lot of resources--compared to the moribund reviews forums, which mainly just use up screen space. I'm not making any promises, but I have been thinking about posting a review in the books forum, once I have all the books I need to do the review (a comparison of the three "common" This is Animation Macross TV books vs. Macross Perfect Memory.) Maybe the best solution would be to consolidate the reviews forums into a single forum, or else (if possible) keep them separate but don't list them separately on the main forum page. I.e., have just one link to the reviews forums to save screen space.
  22. Comments on previous nominations... Lost in Space--yes, it deserves the nomination. But I think it's ultimately merely a crappy phoned-in Hollywood adaptation. It doesn't have the exploitative expectations-shattering quality of a Phantom Menace. Plus, the wacked-out alternate dimension at the end was kind of interesting. Godzilla--ditto. It gets additional badness marks for ripping off King Kong (the remake), but the monster itself wasn't badly done, if you could tolerate the fact that they deliberately abandoned the beloved original design. 12 Monkeys, 2001--Two of my favorite movies. Saturn 3--Yes, that is real awfulness. Outland--You gotta be kidding. A dark, dark, High Noon in a hard SF setting--worked for me.
  23. Hm, I liked Silent Running and Starship Troopers. A lot, both. And I did read the SST book (and played the original 1970's Avalon Hill board game) a long time before seeing the movie. I guess the key to enjoying it, for me, was to enjoy the layers of irony, which can be seen as a commentary on Heinlein's political leanings. It helps to be forewarned that the mobile suits, which are the most appealing bit of techno-porn from the books & the 70's game, are entirely missing. (At the risk of drifting into the political, SST could even be seen as a prophetic allegory for 9/11 and its aftermath.) The Phantom Menace was horrible, but I think there were a few moments at the very beginning when it looked like it might be okay. For me, it's difficult to pick between it, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek: Generations. Aliens^3 was pretty horrible, too.
  24. Since this comment appears to refer to mine... Who said I was ignoring it? It may have seemed that I was taking sides in an M7 vs. Macross debate, but I wasn't. I was commenting on the accuracy and fairness of "unliek the original Macross is actually lasted it's full running length." Macross lasted the full 26 episodes that were approved in pre-production, and was extended by 10 episodes due to popular acclaim. If you'd like to compare that to M7 being approved for 49 episodes, and running the whole length, fine.
  25. That isn't quite fair. The original Macross was cut down by the suits before it aired; once it aired, it was so popular with the TV audience that it was extended, though admittedly not to the originally-conceived 50-odd episodes.
