Macross Frontier and prior Macross mysteries
Zinjo replied to Syngyne's topic in Movies and TV Series
Wow, a entertainment TV show plays fast and loose with scientific principles... Can things get any worse? -
It could be an indicator of those watching the DVD releases. IIRC Sheryl is going through her "character transformation" arc in the episodes recently released. A very sympathetic time for her in the series.

Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*
Zinjo replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
In addition to Saint's points, we need to keep in mind that there is a generational aspect as well between the Nightmare and the Nightmare Plus. What was once considered state of the art on the VF-17 is likely standard equipment on most VF's by 2059. As Sketley has stated, it's cheaper to build a fighter with "off the shelf" parts than it is to have one with proprietary parts that require manufacture to order. If the sole purpose of the VF-171 was to allow Spacy to equip a colonization fleet quickly and economically, a fighter type with known capabilities is the best way to go. The UNG would be able to save on the majority of R&D costs and field an adapted fighter for initial protection, while any next gen fighters could be uploaded to the fleets, when they become available, for local manufacture later. -
Macross Frontier and prior Macross mysteries

Not officially. As in no published record or produced show has mentioned any sightings. Mr.Brila believed the Vajra had seen it in their travels, which is why he covertly supported the Galaxy plan to use fold link technology to communicate across the galaxy. -
Maybe for the surface detail, but the CG model itself can be fairly easily transferred into a CAD format for the mold building process.

You may be right. Thus far all the Frontier books published thus far have had the variable fighter lineart conspicuously absent for the most part. Hell, Hobby Japan has published more MF mecha lineart than any of the "official" books! If SK is planning another art book, let's all hope he releases his line art work on Zero as well as Frontier.
-
I have a suspicion that either most of the SK lineart for Frotier will appear either in Chronicle or another SK art book. I agree that most art books about Frontier feature CG or lineart from artists of the show, not Kawamori.

Has confirmation of that yet been found? Not quite. Valks don't repair themselves. Macross Zero explains the role of ECA (aka AWAG/RA 105 SWAG energy converting armor). It essentially gives the fighter the armor strength of a tank, without the weight of physical armor.

OK let's put things into perspective. How many worlds are part of the UNG? How many colony fleets are still enroute thus far? The combined population of the Earth and UN colonies is likely in the billions by 2059. Now also consider other military branches besides Spacy-UNAF, UNMC, UNSF, UNN and you have a variety of branches and fleets to equip. The UNMC will not have the same requirements as the UNSpacy or the UNAF. The VF-19 may be the main fighter for the UNAF & the military arm of Spacy, yet not adopted for the colony program. The VF-171 was given that role, possibly due to financial constraints in the program. With Island Class colony vessels, it seems more feasable to task the colonial governments with developing local versions of basic designs, much like how the VF-25 was developed out of the VF-24 designs. Those customizations could then be forwarded back to the UNG for evaluation and possible incorporation into the next gen fighters. I agree with Azreal that the VF-25 may not become the next main fighter for Spacy (it is for Frontier though). The next Spacy fighter may well be a generic version of the VF-24. From a creative point of view Kawamori has established an interesting precedent. If fighter development in the Macross universe is becoming less centralized, then each colony fleet could potentially have several variants or even different derivatives of existing fighter designs.

The Valkyrie's are equipped with a form of energy converting armor that reinforced the fighter (it takes the excess energy taken from the nuclear engines and converts it into a form of armor for the fighter). Without it the fighters were not that tough. This is how Hikaru could survive flying his fighter through an overpass to rescue Minmei. One explanation is that the ECA was damaged or failed and thus left Roy's battroid much more vulnerable than it would have been with all it's systems fully operational.

Always loved this version of Mikimoto's Minmay!! Always loved this version of the poster! Too bad you didn't make more....
-
Love this one. One of the few that actually shows the correct scale of the battle pods vs the Valks.

Brother please post high rest shots of this outstanding work when you are done! I smell so many wallpapers coming from these beauties!!

The VF-2SS was a Space Superiority fighter. It was not (AFAIK) a dedicated space fighter like the 'Meh'tal Siren was. It's like how the VF-19F&S was optimized for space flight, but had atmospheric capability. The VF-2JA was optimized for atmospheric flight as it had an additional control surface that dropped from the underside to allow it to fly at odd angles (granted it was a novice aerodynamic design). I can't argue the fugly battroid designs already suggested, but then there are the designs where SK designed the fighter first and the battroid was an after thought. The VF-4 and VF-9 are both good examples.

Sweet! I am now beginning to think the whole re-telling of the series has been reconsidered. Wasn't the movie initially supposed to be released this month? Doing a side story or a continuation would explain the summer release as well as Klan's greater role. There wasn't a whole lot they could add to her TV appearances. Hopefully it will be longer than some 1/2 hour money grab... Thanks for the translations guys...

The VF-0 was also a test bed for bleeding edge technologies for a VF. Probably SK wanted to give a precursor to the projected displays seen in the Block 6 VF-1's we were shown in DYRL and the YF-19 of Plus. Blah! The 'Meh'tal Siren has to be one of the worst variable fighter designs I've ever seen! The weapons concepts introduced by it were pretty cool, but what a fugly design. At least the VF-2 was a hybrid of the VF-1 and the VF-4 designs that turned out to look quite cool.
-
Screw that! I'm going to Apollo moon base, suckas!!!
-
They were IIRC. The ones attached in the pics are the DYRL ones... DYRL SDFM Notice the SDFM version has blue and white paint while the DYRL is mostly grey.

Well considering what Millia looked like in a bikini in Mac 7 (after having 7 kids)! I tend to agree with Marchmedowntothedojo! Most red blooded humans would clamour for the chance to breed with a Meltrani (even with their hot tempers ).

February 7, 2009. That poster is likely an ad for a similar event later on. There will be two of them in different locations. I believe the first (this Saturday is in Akihabara).
-
Most likely. Since the transformation of the Macross was an "on the fly" engineering feat. Subsequent Macross class warships were built with the capability though.

It would depend on how many EVILs were deployed. If it were only the prototypes, it is doubtful they'd be able to stand up to the collective thinking swarms of the Vajra. The EVILs were not really designed to fight the Vajra.
-
That would require the folding of M2 into the continuity, which has yet to happen (and won't, so long as the story remains as it currently is in that show).
