  1. Keep in mind too, that during SW-1 humanity discovered that the Valks were designed to fight giants hand to hand, NOT giants in even larger mecha! We've seen a progression of increased battroid heights over the subsequent years after SW-1, so a larger VF version of the Valkyrie is not impossible, but most likely probable. It is entirely possible that it was made that big by demand of colonial customers. They may have wanted a fighter that could take on a Glaug or Regult without the need for additional support mecha, like destroids.
  2. I think it would actually. When you can see a series in its entire context within a short span of time, it would affect your final opinion, since any expectations would have only minutes to build rather than days. There would be no 50 page debate on MW over the WTF-1 (although it was fun ) since the answer would be a mere minutes away. In one sense, I suspect the complaints would be based more on the actual content and production values rather than emotions surrounding the show itself. I have to agree that with such a wide universe in Macross and the depth that Kawamori and co. have put into its history that non-formula side stories are needed. However, until a side story can prove to be very successful BigWest would be hard pressed to find a sponsor like Bandai to pay for a whole series. I think that OVA's are where such stories could find their voice. Another avenue is to market such side stories as shows for a more mature audience to try to reign in an older demographic. Unfortunately Kawamori seems to use Macross to pay the bills and his other visions are relegated outside the franchise. This could be due to pressure by BW to continue with the formula or he simply doesn't have any interest in telling those stories within the franchise.
  3. Yep! The real accomplishment is that it still managed to tell a coherent and progressive story for the universe despite all the pressure it was getting from its sponsors. Mac 7 didn't do so well in that area. With the anemia that is currently being experienced in anime productions these days, getting talented, seasoned writers for a show cannot be easy. The writers of Frontier did an admirable job but if it hadn't been for some experienced blood showing up halfway through, I suspect we would have been much more disappointed. The show displayed little character drama and was seriously at risk of becoming more of a documentary piece than an engaging character drama (which is what all great SF ultimately is!). Keep in mind this show was aimed at teenagers, not old school fans. Granted some may have watched the show in secret (anime is not something a Japanese adult wants to openly admit watching), but the show's purpose was to sell merchandise, toys and music to be specific, and from what we've seen in the Japanese market, it has succeeded for it's sponsors. As already stated, the show was far from perfect and because entertainment is so subjective, it probably could never be perfect for some. Compared to what I was initially expecting (based on the last Macross TV series) and what we got, I am satisfied that the show honored it's heritage. It isn't on the same level as SDFM, but then again few sequel productions have been.
  4. Well if having a pair of stones qualifies you....
  5. Since Minmei is of Chinese heritage, I prefer to use a Chinese romanization of the name "Minmei Lin"... Some have suggested that Minmay Lynn is her stage name, which I like to agree with...
  6. Since we are talking about decals. Anyone equipped to take some deculture decals and reduce them to 1/100 scale? I want to buy a couple of the 1/100 scale toys and re-decal them with the deculture decals, but am not equipped to print decals. I can scan them in hires, but am not sure how to reduce them and am not able to print them. PM me if you are able and we can work out a deal of some sort.
  7. I went to a local hobby shop and saw the Series 1 set, grabbed the heaviest box and scored the minmay doll chase, then picked another and got the Hikaru. Wanting the Minmay, I went back and picked another! It was funny since the other patron there was watching and when I opened it and saw it was her, all he could say was "whoa!" I may go back and see if I can get the clear haired version of her, but that'll have to wait until payday... It's too bad Doyusha isn't re-issuing the Valks, it'd be nice to see the originals again, and maybe some new ones...
  8. All Kawamori sequels are based on SDFM. Macross II is a sequel based on DYRL. The color scheme in DYRL is a later upgrade of the VF-1 fighter called the "block 6" upgrade which was (according to the universe) used in the making of the in universe DYRL movie. All subsequent series' tend to use the DYRL designs & color schemes partly because Kawamori prefers them over the originals from the series.
  9. I'd bet the fans did that on purpose, just for laughs...
  10. WOW! Lazarus come forth!!! The most the Mardook could be is some sort of offshoot of the SA who did indeed have Zentradi in their forces. The idea of mind control turned out to be valid with respect to the SA (M7). How the Mardook microns came to enslave the Zentradi is largely unknown (even in their own universe). Much of the Mardook history is largely unknown. We know they believed in a legendary ship of the Alus, which would be responsible for "saving" their people and the idea that the legend was mis-interpreted was an aspect I liked. We also know they used song to control their Zentradi forces a bit of an about face from Kawamori's use of song to break mind control. The fact that they had ships that appeared to be "modified" is not really that far fetched. Macross II: Macross 7: Both of these have micron scaled bridges. The Mac II producers, having worked on SDFM, must have read Kawamori's history of the universe and used some of it in their show, although adapted. As I've said before. Mac II could be shoe horned into the Nue continuity, but several changes to the show must be made to harmonize with the existing Macross universe. The era the show takes place in, why the valks are so different from established canon valks, why no evidence of the Galaxy Network, the SDF Macross Class ship could not be called the "Macross", etc...
  11. I'd love to get the decals just for the graphics...
  12. The "something new" could very well be a VF-25 with a new mission pack, or possibly a VF-28 (VF-27 human type). However if a VF-28 does appear it will be because Bandai wants another version of the VF-27 product line to sell. Realistically the VF-27 has not been around long enough on Frontier for them to reverse engineer it into another fighter IMHO.
  13. Ahh, you are an evil one to bring this to our attention, but we respect you anyway...
  14. Actually they secured the trademarks in both countries. A US trademark doesn't automatically include Canada, since there is a separate system in each country. In the US one has to go to court to challenge a trademark, whereas in Canada it is a Federal Tribunal that decides the ownership of a disputed trademark.
  15. Yeah, I like your version of the battlepod over Miyatake's. Then again I've never liked the SDFM battlepods, so anything can only be an improvement...
  16. Yes it is. It's called the "Gunship"... I agree with Sketchley in that if you are referring to the New Macross Battle Class/Carrier, then NMCV is a better way to describe it in shorthand... NMC has been used to described the whole colony ship as an acronym to New Macross Class colony ship, however the Frontier's acronym would actually be ICC for Island Cluster Class colony ship.
  17. I knew there was a logical explanation, I just couldn't remember it. Thanks Well if it's like an EMP or microwave radio burst, it would take approximately 10 years for the signal to travel 10 light years since radio signals travel at the speed of light. It really doesn't read very well. It took the Vritai fleet 10 years to fold to Earth from 10 light years away? I think the story is meant to be that Vritai happened accross the residual affects of a defold 10 light years away while on a SAD (Search and Destroy) mission against the SA. I don't think the two are meant to be directly related.
  18. I suspect the theory was derived due to the lack of the audio track's use in the ADV dub. The re-mastered video was used, but new sound effects were created for both the dub and the Japanese audio tracks. The assumption was made that HG didn't have the rights to the remastered audio, therefore did not use it. However the wildcard is ADV. They are not much better than HG when it comes to respecting the original source material. With the exception of Evangelion, where the producers were rabid Eva fans, all their other works have been subject to "interpretation" by the script, ADR and production staff... As for a re-animation of SDFM. When I come to think of it, I wouldn't mind a re-telling of the original story via a series of OVAs. It would be an opportunity for Kawamori to expand on areas that weren't really covered in the series and have the opportunity to really ramp up the Valk action with CGI...
  19. OK, that latest quote sounds a bit fishy to me! Why say one thing when HG didn't care and another while they are actively blocking new Macross productions from being licensed? Maybe because he is contractually obligated? Wouldn't surprise me. HG has long been taking their pointers from the GW Bush camp... Claim as fact what isn't there and then hide the truth...
  20. Most likely a clean up mission. Given the size of the galaxy, it is no surprise that it took them 10 years to track it down. It also gives one a sense of how much the Zentreadi feel threatened by the SA. To have standing orders to not let any get away, at all!
  21. They already have. A two volume set, Red book and Blue book. Mostly character, environmental,Vajra and a few capital ship art. No Valks...
  22. Gubaba really hit the nail on the head. We know the SA were once under PD mind control, yet through the use of Anima Spiritia soldiers the PC were able to imprison the PD. This same ability is capable of breaking the PD mind control as demonstrated in M7. The questions that remain are: 1. Are the SA still under mind control and following last known orders? 2. Are the SA freed from mind control and continuing to fight for some unknown reason? 3. Are the SA freed from mind control and continuing to fight for their very lives? 4. Are the SA ultimately wiped out or essentially so? The facts as presented thus far (if I make a mistake any seasoned member is invited to correct me): 1. The Zentreadi once had an inhibitor to keep them from attacking their micron PC masters, but it was removed to allow them to fight the mind controlled SA which comprised both PC & Zentreadi soldiers. 2. After the PD war the PC were only able to reinstitute the inhibitor on a "portion" of their Zentreadi army. 3. The collateral damage of the Zentreadi / SA fighting was the near annhilliation of the PC society. 4. The Anima Spiritia ability is capable of assisting in the imprisonment of the PD entities, as well as being able to break the PD mind control. 5. The SA and Zentreadi were still actively engaged in hostilities as of 2010...
  23. That is post Legioss/Tread from Mospeada, but hardly a new idea....
  24. A jumpy HD video signal is either an underpowered CPU or Vid card. Any ATI "HD" vid cards are capable as well as Nvidia cards 8600 or newer can handle HD video. I am currently running an Nvidia 9800GT and having no issues, with the exception of trying to show a rectangular picture on a square LCD monitor... However if you are running Blista, then RAM may also come into play since that white elephant OS is a resource pig...
  25. I always thought the early generations of VF's simply relied on the thrust of the nuke engines to gain & maintain flight. However, that is not the most efficient way to utilize the engines...
