The way I understand it was that Ohnogi was given control over the Sheryl arc and I believe the remainder of the love triangle (but I am not sure about the triangle bit entirely). Which is why Sheryl became such and interesting 3 dimensional character over the course of the second half of the series. Kawamori retained final say on everything else and ultimately what Ohnogi contributed, as he was the Supervising Director (i.e boss).

Bandai doesn't have a negative stance on the series... They sponsored it! As Az said, they just don't see enough market interest in it, so they don't invest in more products for that show. So far all the Macross shows have gone through the remaster process, except MII. The most likely reason is that the potential profit just doesn't justify the cost...

Ai Oboete Imasu Ka? Do You Remember Love? Lyrics
Zinjo replied to Starchild's topic in Movies and TV Series
The thing is that with a "correct" translation any lyricist or wordsmith could take them and rewrite them poetically, while maintaining the original meaning of the song. My brother in law likes to do that. Every year he re-writes Christmas carol lyrics in shall we say an amusing way. However, being a writer, he has a very strong vocabulary and that helps... -
Well Marchingalongthebeancounterpath, your attention to detail is making the 3M the definitive resource for Macross Mecha to us Western fans. We do appreciate even the minutia....

Ohnogi put some humanity and character evolution into the series. An element that was conspicuously missing prior to his involvement. No Grand Slam mind you but at least a triple...

Quick questions: What were the human names and former occupations of both Geperuniti and Gigile aboard the Megaroad 13 fleet?

Well, it seems to me that seppuku is your only option to save face... Gubaba may assist you....

Just picked up my VF-25F. WOW, love it! The sculp is stunning and I am sooo glad they went with a grey canopy rather than the blue one shown on the box and in prototype photos. It's unfortunate there's no pilot, but as far as I'm concerned this is NOT a toy. IMO, it's a multi-pose collector figure. The DX is the actual toy. This fighter series appears to me to be strictly for display. Taking all the engineering that went into the DX and model kits and shrinking it down for display purposes. Much like the Yammie "Art of War" series of Macross battroids currently available. Superior sculpts but not as posable as the Revoltech series. Though I am not sure who's making them, but I saw on the web some 1/100 VF-1's with much more intricate weathered painting on them. They look really nice. I am also encouraged that Bandai appears to have plans to produce Super Pack, Armored Pack, Fold Booster and Super Fold Boosters. Whether they'll be sold separately or sold as yet another version of our favorite valks is still unknown. All in all, I am very encouraged by this line. I've been wanting a quality line of collector fighters ever since I bought my first Doyusha VF-1 (hoped they'd continue with the line, but it never happened). If only we could convince the CM corporation to release a series of Macross cockpits like the ones in series 2 & 3, but with all the valks. Even a line of pilot helmets from all the Macross series so far, then I'd truly be a happy camper.... Something more than just re-issues of previously produced series'. I suspect the non Frontier fighters will be a bit more difficult for Bandai to do since the don't have the benefit of cad drawings to work from. We'll have to see.

Just curious. What does the chin do anyway? Does it carry some sort of sensory equipment or is it just for aesthetics?

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up...

Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*
Zinjo replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
That may be nice, but taking cash out of BigWest's pocket is not really cool around here... We want to see more Macross productions and that only happens when the sponsors make money on publications and merchandise. There is a cost to everything that seems free. -
Keep in mind that anime studios are recognizing the international appeal of their shows, so going with more Western naming conventions should not be that surprising...

Would love to see scans from this issue!

Hmm, I see little evidence of that... Premise entirely different, mecha entirely different, heroes entirely different, etc... The only similarity is that humanity is yet again being attacked by giants... Moving on to measuring the show on it's own merits (outside the cliche'd dismissal), the writers left far too many story threads dangling by the end. Ingues was far too 2 dimensional a villan, with no real motivation outside of "control". The love triangles were poorly developed and a lack of background information as to why the Earth seemed to be under martial law for so long. There was no mention in the show as to why they seemed to have abandoned the emigration project, however according Seito published information explains that. I agree the that destroid updated did look cool and the AGA-1JF is a cool use of a dedicated GERWALK unit, however it was poorly armed IMO.

The larger size of the VFs IMO is more of a pragmatic design choice rather than a demonstration of advances. I'm sure if they can put as much firepower as they do into a Ghost they can shrink a VF. However, the role of a VF is primarily an anti-giant fighter and with the experience of SW-1, mankind learned that the Giants also use mecha, which is substantially larger than the VF-1. In order to find a good balance they chose to make VFs larger to combat this mecha but not so large as to take away from the fighter's effectiveness. The VF-14 is a larger than typical fighter, but is also considered a heavy fighter as opposed to a typical frontline fighter. Granted its only an opinion, but it works for me.

Liked the idea of the Valhalla III, hated how they chose to deploy the fighters... True, however the F-35 is smaller than the F-14, does that make it less advanced too?...
-
Those are the only two images of the VF-XX in all the published works I'm aware of. Although Seito might have found more. Personally I am no fan of the Metal Siren. It looks like a lego project gone bad... The VF-2SS however is pretty cool, considering its mostly a hybrid between the VF-1 & VF-4...

That is the true irony of this series. It's predecessor M7 was too long for the content it actually had, while Frontier was too short for the same reasons... I have to agree regarding E7. At first it was like, "WTF!! Surfing mecha???!", but that is so NOT what the story is about!
-
Which is why I like to use it, since it is an actual name... Eventhough Max is described as European, I lean toward the French nationality, since Maxmillian is a common name in France, along with Mylene. Emilia could be a derivitive of Emile, but that's pure speculation. Besides, how many non-frenchmen would fall for the woman trying to kill him and then marry her weeks later?

One exists (not sure if its resin) and its incredibly rare. Even on the Yahoo Japan auction site...

He considered them on the Samurai Monkey board, but had other SDFM kits he wanted to finish first. With the current suspension of that board, I don't know where he hangs his hat these days....
-
THAT kit will be a monster I suspect. Not in terms of size but in the number of people wanting to buy it. I was talking to my local hobby dealer (who's brother buys his stock in Japan) and he said the Macross merch is very hot right now. He's loading up to make sure he has enough stock here... So I think getting a first run of the VF-27's might be a hard task, especially if they over-price it...
