  1. That depends on Bandai. Though I won't be waiting with bated breath for it to happen...
  2. WOW if Hasegawa gets into 1/48 scale versions of it's licensed valks, they'll open up a whole new market! With Bandai stepping on the toes of existing Macross licenses from other companies with its DX, VF-100 and 1/72 scale kit lines, Hasegawa could take its superior sculpts into a new market previously only tapped by garage kit manufacturers. A very good choice to start a line with. The YF-19 has to be one of their most popular kits... If it's true, I guess I'll need to start saving for these new kits...
  3. Never say never... The once locked door has been openned a crack with the revelations of fold faults and the existence of more than one Macross Class warship in the Nue continuity. With some story editing Mac II could be shoe horned into the Nue continuity, however there will be those like Seto who would remain faithful to the original, just as with any revision of an existing production. I'm not opposed to the idea personally, if only to see the multiple dangling story threads either tied off or abandoned all together... However, we simply don't know if Bandai is willing to sponsor a "re-launch" of that show in a new form...
  4. 1:1 helmet would be very cool, but I want a CM Corp collection of all the Macross helmets along with more cockpit cutaways from various VFs...
  5. Well I wouldn't consider the VF-100 series toys anyway. The DX's are made durable enough to be toys. I don't think these were meant to be played with as much as displayed in various positions and modes...
  6. I agree with Marchy... Semantics are fine, however they don't address or describe who and what the inhabitants of these fleets actually are, "Colonists en-route". Lone Wolf's assertion applys to known countries or worlds. The Mayflower carried emigrants, colonists or both? A ship going from the Earth to Eden would carry emigrants, not colonists. There is no dispute as to what the fleets are actually called. The term "Macross" can be considered superfuluous unless you are trying to identify the series to a franchise fanbase. The 7th Super Long Distance Emigration Ship could just as accurately been called "Emigration 7" or or "City 7". The 25th Super Long Distance Emigration ship could also be simply called "Frontier". However, it really doesn't identify the show as a Macross show this way does it? I am offering a proposed reason for the term "Macross" in the naming convention for newbs who may be confused by the multiple terminology of fleet identification.
  7. The SMS logo from a 1/72 VF-25 kit might be large enough as it will be 128% larger on a 1/100 scale toy as opposed to a 1/72 scale model kit. For the shark jaw I'd suggest looking at model sites with custom decal sheets to see if any of them have the teeth decal that you could adapt to the VB-6, consider 1/72 or 1/48 scales as probable good fits. A couple of other points to remember is that if you make a custom Ranka decal and print it, you will need to seal the decal paper (google "how to make model decals" to get the various recommended types of sealants). Once the decals are applied, I'd suggest clear coating the toy to keep the decals from rubbing off over time. On another note, I am somewhat surprised Yamato isn't re-issuing the VB-6 toy. There's a lot of money to be made selling a 1/100 scale monster with Bandai's VF-100 series display toys coming out. Hell, Yamato could license the decal/sticker designs from Bandai to sell more toys...
  8. Well some see things that aren't there and others refuse to see things that are....
  9. The rail gun flash is shorter in duration that that of a chemically propelled projectile, but somewhat more intense. I've seen a video of a small scale rail gun experiement tested and the flash is intense, but very very short, most likely due to the incredible exit speed of the projectile.
  10. If I recall correctly, the producer describes the holographic singer as the latest pop-idol of the day and not Minmay. Unfortunately that wasn't well explained in the show. The other point about the Ranka / MII relation is that in MII there were multiple holograms of the singing pop idol, not one giant one. I really don't see the similarities between the Armored VF-25 and the VF-2SS at all! The VF-2SS was clearly a hybrid design between the VF-1 and VF-4 and quite an attractive one at that. The brief ode to MII with the Galaxy messenger fighter is as far as I've really seen. I suspect Kawamori was under intense pressure from Bandai and BigWest to do something. As far as BW is concerned it's a Macross title and Bandai sponsored that show as well so no doubt wants to further profit from it by reminding the fans of the show's existence.
  11. OK, eco-system would be an incorrect term on my part. Frontier, specifically, and city 7, possibly, would better be described as a Biosphere, where the environment is self sustaining. A park without air or moisture would die, much like a plant under glass. A City ship / Megaroad park would be a limited ecosystem, artificially maintained aboard the colony ship. And your relevant point is? Emmigrants / colonists are essentially the same thing aboard these fleets. Semantics really don't change who and what they are. Not sure what you are trying to say. I am referring to the idea that "Macross" designated ships are transforming capital ships and by extension, fleets that have such ships can be considered "Macross" (in universe) fleets by virtue of the existence of those type of ships in the fleet, though not necessarily officially referred to as such. I am not suggesting that the Megaroad fleets were mis-named. From what I can tell, the reasoning for the term "Macross" in the naming of the new fleets can be attributed to the fact that New Macross Class carriers are attached to the fleets (that and it makes the fleet easily identifiable to the viewers as a Macross show). The introduction of the "Macross Quarter" changed what we've once believed constituted a Macross Type vessel, which was a 1200+m long warship. In the case of M7 and MF these ships were attached to emigration fleets.
  12. The SSL-9B is capable of firing a projectile at rail gun speeds (7000m/s +), which theoretically can turn the projectile into a plasma mass. If this is the idea behind the weapon, then the effects of the weapon shown in the series would be consistent with current theory. The fact that it appears the have the same "melt" affect on the targets as a beam weapon would as well as it's extreme long range in space.
  13. I bought one way back when they were new and I was very disappointed. The kits Bandai is doing for Frontier is a substantial improvement over those old kits. So far Hasegawa has the best kits for VF-1's. They may not transform, but they've improved the molds over the years and are second to none! If you want a variable VF-1, I'd suggest the Yamato line of toys.
  14. I'd have to agree with Azreal there. With all the re-issues associated with MF and how hot the merchandizing is for the series, it's most likely a reprint with a new cover too sell to the latest generation of Macross fans.
  15. I don't agree with the notion that Galaxy has a standard City class colony ship. The Megaroads (as far as we know) had no eco-systems either, yet they were viable colony vessels. What we have learned in Frontier is that any capital ship that is capable of transformation is considered a "Macross" ship (most likely the for the same reasons why all variable fighters are collectively termed "valkyries". Both type of crafts were the firsts of their kind for humanity and therefore retain their iconic status), the Captain of Quarter made that clear when bragging about his ship. The implication I gathered from his statement is that for a fleet to be considered a "Macross" fleet it must have a transforming capital ship. In the 2030's a new version of a Macross ship set sail, the "New Macross Aircraft Carrier" (NMCV) and it was attached (typically) to a City Class colony vessel. Because the Galaxy had a NMCV attached to the fleet it too was considered a "New Macross Class Fleet", regardless of what type of colony vessel was attached to it. If the Megaroad fleets had Macross Class (SDFN) warships in the fleet, they could also have been considered a "Macross Class" fleet (if the convention is to be consistent) because a transforming warship was a part of it. The one thing that has been consistent since Mac 7 was that the "New Macross" moniker always seemed to be refering to the transforming warship and not the colony ship.
  16. Keep in mind that the Galaxy was not a City ship fleet. The NMCV battleships are the same hull type. Another point is that the Galaxy is a corporately owned fleet, not the government sponsored fleet that the New Macorss 1 fleet was and it seems to be the most modern adaptation of the Megaroad type of civilian ship. It is possible that it launched a year after the Macross 1 fleet and over the years had seen many upgrades, the main discrepancy is why was it given a Macross 21 (?) designation, being so old?.
  17. OK, I'm still looking for the references for this...anyone?
  18. Well considering she's wearing a Sheryl costume, there's hope for her yet... She is quite the doll though....
  19. After DYRL and Kawamori indicating that he preferred the movie designs over the TV ones, all Nue Macross series' maintained that aesthetic. I suspect the Tatsunoko legal issues also prompted BigWest to avoid any references to the original series until it was finally resolved in 2002. Then it seems that what was done was done after so many years.
  20. Is that an opinion? We did hear her speaking to the "group" at one point during the series (can't remember which episode)...
  21. It's another one of Kawamori's enigmas as to how and why Sheryl never knew Mao or even if Mao gave a damn about her grand daughter. Mao seems to have become somewhat a cold hearted b*tch, allowing her grand daughter to be experimented on after being a street urchin for so long. She seemed to get along well with Ranshe, but who knows how close that relationship was...
  22. Actually he could very well be Zentradi. Since it is widely believed that the Megaroad 13 fleet was a Zentradi fleet, with all the VF-14's co-opted and adapted into the Varuata army.
  23. It sounds very much like it is there for greater emphasis (along the similar lines of "Me-myself") but also impersonal. We in the West would simply write in English as "Do you remember when our eyes first met? Do you remember, when our hands first touched?" Where as the Japanese lyric is impersonal which strikes me as a culturally polite way to express something that we in the West would term in a personal way. However, I do understand that marrying the cadence of the lyric with the rythm of the music would be a challenge.
