  1. The PC did use variable mecha, only it was bio-mecha like the AFOS. Whether they started out like humanity with metal mecha is open to speculation I supose.
  2. Or the unused designs like the SW-XA1 & 2! Though I've always been a fan of the VF-11D! There is just something so damn cool about a double bubble canopy...
  3. How can we say "Humanity gained most of Protoculture's technology", when we know genetic engineering in the Macross Galaxy Network is still essentially in it's infantcy. Humanity only recently discovered what fold quartz is for and much of what the PC actually knew has been lost to antiquity. I agree humanity has nearly mastered variable technologies, however I am doubtful they are at the level the PC were at the height of their power. It is my belief that the potential of the instantaneous communication offered by the Vajara hive mind may have been the reason for the PC civil war in the first place. The potential threat that would pose to freedom loving citizens would be incredible.
  4. No the English dub on the "International Release" used several of the same English voice actors, but it wasn't the Manga dub.
  5. Oooo, that would be cool!! Tho I wonder if he did the N-Ger because it never gets any love...
  6. Perhaps the writers envisioned a longer series, but essentially Japanese distributors don't believe an OVA series can last longer than 5 episodes, even though several have dis-proved that theory. The writing team certainly set up a story that would take much more than 5 episodes to finish. The progressively degraded animation was the result of poor home video sales, which prompted budget cuts before the series was finished, not the writing. Macross Zero also would have benefited from a 6th episode, but alas only 5 were budgeted for... I am of the personal opinion that mac II should be revisisted, however its fans would not support this and neither would its critics...
  7. True, some challenges. That tends to happen sometimes when the background color doesn't contrast the model. I look forward to re-installing Photoshop and digging into these (installed new HDD)...
  8. This one truly is a work of art! Very nice!
  9. Well the reality is that with Macek dead, Yune and his neophites can do whatever they want to the "franchise". This will further alienate the "purists" and the schism will widen. Yune's ego has no limit. He utterly failed to produce a decent original story for the followup production and continued that failure by not hiring a competent writer to pen another one. They like to hide behind the DOA LAM project, but if the film has no script after this many years it isn't going to get one in the near future. HG is under intense pressure to produce new material for the fans and it just isn't happening. The RT fans see MF and wonder why HG isn't doing something like it. As for the re-master of the shows, I would wager the only changes will be editing changes to perhaps better mesh the stories, but even that is going to be tough. The achilles heal in the whole process is the "Southern Cross" chapter which bears absolutely NO resemblance to the bookend shows and offers no reasonable reason why the technology of that "era" was so drastically different from the era before and after. They would have been better off abandoning that show and either replacing it or simply ignoring it ever existed. In the grand picture it serves no real purpose. HG is starting the hemorrage fans from the RT franchise and they know it. The fanboys can only last so long and with the economy still very sluggish, money isn't being spent on recycled RT merch.
  10. Hey boss, if you like I'll take some renders of various poses and angles and see what I can cobble together... I love working with your models!
  11. Their LOSS!! There is actually an online service that offers weekly conversations in Japanese with your instructors via the web to reinforce your regular language studies. Pretty cool, but pricey...
  12. Like 30! Basara should be pushing 40, assuming he didn't fly in front of a gun pod and get splattered....
  13. Isn't the VF-2JA something like a meter taller than the VF-2SS?
  14. I've often wondered that myself...
  15. I was so grateful to see the gunship fire while Battle 25 was still in Carrier mode in MF! I was so damned tired of seeing the gunship used exclusively in Attacker mode in M7. It gave a few on this board the false impression that was the only way it could be used... Yes there are advantages of using the gunship that way, but dis-advantages too.
  16. Actually he kind of revisited the sequence in Macross Zero by adding the pillars to support the leg nacelles during transformation. He could add those same pillars to the VF-1 by just suggesting it to Mikimoto for the the Macross First Manga... We all know, he is not afraid of ret-con... to his credit IMHO.
  17. Hmm, you might want to be more specific, brother... "that VF" could refer to most of the wallpapers in the thread...
  18. Nice except the explosions in the background are too dark. Fire is bright no matter how far away it is. To create distance, just blur it...
  19. Probably the inspiration for the Quarter's GERWALK mode !
  20. You were bad! Now you will have to sacrifice 7 cosplayers to recover your good mojo...
  21. Any announcements on the BD release of Movie #2?
  22. The initial point was that humanity would surpass the PC in peaceful use of their ancient technology and I simply countered with the trend that mankind was more likely to repeat those same mistakes. The old adage still applies, "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely", That moral is still very strong in the Macross universe.
  23. The way I understand it, Kawamori is credited with the series creation because it was his concepts the Nue team developed and particularly because he was responsible for writing the story outlines for the majority of the show's episodes (something he continues to do even today). He was also the chief director for the variable fighter sequences, which stands to reason since he understood best how they worked. To assert he is the sole creator of the franchise is a bit too simplistic. I tend to agree that it was Studio Nue that created the show based on concepts and ideas from Kawamori, Mikimoto, et al.
