If, for the sake of argument it was, imagine how powerful the Vajra were to be able to shatter a VF-171 canopy with their tails!!

Valkyrie Rhinoplasty huh? Should be cool!!

Perhaps that was one of the critical reasons why the subsequent fighters were "larger" than the VF-1. The VF-1 was a compact tough little fighter, but didn't leave much room for even the critical systems let alone upgrades...

The Flashback Minmay, makes me think of what Mari would have looked like if she cosplayed her character... The Grace/Sheryl combo is stunning!

Once thing to keep in mind, is that it could be possible that the canopies are actually OTEC derived transparent aluminum. With today's technology we can come close to removing enough impurities to create a semi-transparent aluminum sheet, but not clear.

I'd just be satisfied with a copy of the final CG file.... Something like this needs to archived in several "safe" locations to preserve its existence...

Very Sexy...

Another thing to keep in mind that most space vehicles "fall" back to Earth. There is little controlled descent, so the speed at which they fall creates friction and thus fire. A VF can re-enter the atmosphere "under power" and thus control its rate of decent, minimizing the speed and thus the friction produced.

Sounds intriquing. Why the anime character alter egos?
-
So is this the new series? An emo musical drama? I applaud the spin off idea, but will miss the mecha....

Love the ripple effect from the exhaust! A lot of comp artists forget that detail. Very nice!

So will it be a program on the production history, rehashing the chronicle or both?

I wish I would have jumped into this thread when it was new (oh well RL has a way of derailing other plans)... The UN and A-UN, IMHO are fairly complex when you consider world politics. It is a mixture of ideology+pragmatism. There wouild be divergent views on how to handle the Alien threat as well as: Political Rule Ideology = Slow democratic process vs authoritarian decisivie process (inclusive vs exclusive) Energy Policy = Clean, unlimited fusion energy vs oil dependent status quo Technology Policy = Restrictive disclosure vs Open disclosure (exclusive vs inclusive) Control = self explanitory human weakness (both sides) Knowldege = Restrictive vs Open Disclosure (not only in tech, but also armament deployments) Press Ganged into the New Government = Several smaller nations and even some heavy hitters could be press ganged into a global government that they didn't want, perhaps on an empty promise to see tech secrets from OTEC shared. Hence the assassination of the first President (Gen Sec.)... The nations that would support either side will be determined by who stands to benefit the most from either side winning. Then there are the smaller satellite clingons who have nothing and are being promised the moon for their support. For example; you could argue, Russia, China, N Korea, Brasil, Middle East (OPEC nations) would benefit if the A-UN prevailed because part of their interests rely on who controls energy and those are the types of positions that would make up that alliance. One of the reasons why I balked at the notion that an Isreali company would help develop the SV-51 is because despite the country's independence on regional foreign policy, it is an ardent supporter of the US and NATO and is unlikely to side with a group that would undermine it's general support in the UN. The thing I like about the Mac Zero era is that there are no clear good or bad guys. Both sides are guilty of atrocities and both sides are driven by their agendas, just like real life politics. The reality that the supporters of the A-UN have to do so covertly to give the appearance of UN support, but working to undermine the government. We can speculate all we like as to who would belong to what side and justify that choice based upon what that nation stands to gain from that position. However, one must also keep in mind that the ideology of the citizens (or espoused ideology) of any particular country may not be that of the government running it (or those who influence the policy makers)...

This TanJ isn't actually Jason Lewis is it? http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=16101&hl= http://www.jasonlewisart.com/Home.html The work looks very similar...

Very nice, though you might want to ask CC to add a pilot figure. Just a generic figure with matt black texturing to give the silhouette of a pilot without going to all the trouble to detail it. The several renders I had the privilege to work with in my composites didn't have pilots and that was tricky to deal with. I opted to use the metallic reflection usually seen on the F-22 Raptor to hide the empty seat or I'd cut an existing picture of a pilot into the cockpit area. For it to look right it took some of time and patience. That could be avoided with these renders if a pilot silhouette were added. Something to consider. Though if you want obscure, a VF-14 is about as obscure as they come ...

So then what happens when Kawamori quits Macross entirely or simply dies of old age? He is getting up there... There is no new blood, the fanbase seems incapable of accepting any story without his name attached (with the recent exception of Mikimoto). What happends then?

Keep in mind that if Yamato could re-use existing molds and only pay for ones that wold improve the toy then they would. If a complete re-tool is necessary they'd have to seriously look at the market and see what is viable and if they can recover their investment and turn a profit. Releasing versions of the same valk with different paint schemes is the most efficient way to profit from a valk toy. Paint is much cheaper than the costs of creating and tooling a new mold. With every toy release I think it is reasonable to expect several different versions to come out before the line is retired. Hasegawa is a master at this and unfortunately Bandai is so big and its business model apparently so inflexible that they really don't do as much of this as they should.

I would, but I would relate it to the current topic rather than leave it as a stand alone question.

I suspect the "weathering" issue your describe would be fixed with some well placed blur effects that would mute their appearance.
-
Very nice! I'd suggest giving the Q-Rhea's distance blur and the VF-25F or VF-25S (depending on which one you want to highlight, to a much lesser extent) to give the impression that the camera focused on only one subject as opposed to all at the same time. The illusion of reality is really close, but the crisp focus of all subjects undermine that illusion. Impressive!

Thanks for this sexy cockpit view!! I got nose bleeds looking a those renders. BTW, how in holy hell did you get the images to show up in full 1920x1080 resolution??? I thought the site restricted the max size of the image files!

Love to see better scans of this amazing art tho...

The Daedalus always looked fully submersible to me. Both the soviets and the Chinese were actively researching the viability of submersible troop and equipment carriers. Outside of having air tight compartments and hatches, the idea of a semi or fully submersible CVN is just not viable IMHO. Perhaps a full blown series would be cost prohibitive to the sponsors but 3 movies telling a condensed version of the same story would might be possible. Though I am wondering what happened to the Asuka II design for the UN Naval carriers? It was CVN 99 and the Prometheus is CVN 101, yet none of the new design features seem to appear in the Manga...

Nice try Keith, but that tired old dismissive doesn't work anymore... I've debunked your assertion on more than one occasion. All you have to do is watch it understand that. It's like dismissing M7 as nothing more than a superfluously long, Victor Music merchandizing vehicle with unbelievable characters and magical rainbow ray music weapons. If one watches M7, eventually they will find a story amongst the 49 episodes, that is rather interesting and even compelling.

Dude I wouldn't go down the "bad writing" rabbit hole while still clinging to a notion of Mac 7 "superiority". Both series had their fair share of WTF moments!
