Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Zinjo replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yes there will be new valks, but the question is how many new ones? It is expensive to create new molds for Mecha. It is easier and more profitable to re-use existing molds of valks which is why I suspect the story will be taking place not that long after Frontier.- 2715 replies

But you are not a commercial distributor. HG was targeting any commercial distributor who dared to offer Japanese Macross items for sale for a long while. Judging by the shipping costs, Amazon has local stock on hand for order fulfillment otherwise shipping would be much more. Perhaps there is something in the import law that insulates them from any HG legal action?

I never thought I'd see the day when Amazon would sell Bandai toys of Macross... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DIMOWA/ref=dra_a_cs_mr_hn_it_P1400_1000?tag=dradisplay-20&ascsubtag=4a251a2ef9bbf4ccc35f97aba2c9cbda I guess when you have two heavy hitters like Amazon and Bandai selling the product an insect like HG can't really stop you... Keep in mind that they product is shipped directly from Japan...

Banshee's First Impressions of Macross 7!
Zinjo replied to VF-15 Banshee's topic in Movies and TV Series
Every Macross fan should watch M7 at least once and make up their own mind. It really annoyed me the first time, but the second time I was more analytical and discovered particularly what bothered me about it. With that filter in mind, I was able to appreciate many of the merits of the show. It won't make it into my top ten favorite Macross productions, but it had some merits. I could have dismissed it with generalities like some do with respect to certain productions, but stuck it out and can honestly say I am not an M7 hater, just not a fan . -
Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Space Wing
Zinjo replied to Talos's topic in Movies and TV Series
Then why not call it an F-14E? It would take a real world aircraft and give it a fictional series letter. The Macross "plus" and "Kai" designations are becoming a bit cliched.... -

Fighter colors were pretty fast an loose in SDFM with every hero character getting a custom color scheme. Roy got the insignia because he was the leader of the Skull Squadron.

It reminds me of the Japanese kit builder Shima-M, who did a VF-25 conversion as a bare metal test version of the YF-24. http://www1.cablenet.ne.jp/shima-m/macros2.htm http://www.fg-site.net/archives/post_old/42520 He had the delta wings as per the line art, but yours looks cleaner by using the wing gloves as the leading edge points that the YF-24 has on the wings themselves. Making it an "A" model with a CF color scheme just adds to its charm. A hardcore conversion would require the removal of the gloves and the replacement with the full delta wings. No one has committed themselves to THAT much work on a YF-24 kit conversion...

Amazing work! The flight deck textured surface is a nice touch as well as the interior lighting. The bridges are what truly amazed me though! Is the length to scale? Hard to believe the vessel is submersible. With all the protuding angles i suspect it could only move about 10 knots/h... Of course well need hires images uploaded in zip format so we can see up close the detail work of this brilliant project.

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Zinjo replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
Kawamori will be forced by the sponsors to do a trendy mecha TV series, but he always manages to inject some relevant substantial idea or ideas into the context of the story. M7 had revelations about the PC and the origins of the PD. MF gave us the idea of more independent emigration fleets, along with the decentralized final development of Valks. There was the introduction that not all emigration fleets were publicly funded and that multi-national corporations are still self serving forces of influence in all levels of government. These themes are not at all juvenile. I would expect the same in this one.- 2715 replies

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Zinjo replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
Agreed. The more mature, substantive themes have always been reserved for OVA, Movies or Manga. Formats where the titles are "chosen" by the viewer rather than "offered" for general public consumption like TV. Our Japanese residents can speak more to this, but I do not believe cable TV or even streaming TV is as prevalent in Japan as it is in North America. These services here are offering less mainstream, sanitized entertainment compared to what is offered on Network TV. This is possible because they are subscriber funded and not advertising funded. Hence the choose vs offered notion. TV is very much like tent pole Hollywood movies, bigger budgets, but much more generic or trend chasing for mass appeal.- 2715 replies

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Zinjo replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
Already happening with the Aristocracy world wide, especially in the US. Trouble is that it really wouldn't be very relevant to Japanese audiences and Western audiences don't seem to care, or rather won't until there is nothing that can be done to avert the inevitable....- 2715 replies

I would agree to disagree. If the OVA was fine, I suspect it would have done better than it ultimately did. Visually it was stunning, but story wise it was weak, despite the compelling premise.- 2715 replies

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Space Wing
Zinjo replied to Talos's topic in Movies and TV Series
Considering the last Tomcat flew in 2006, the only reasonable explanations are: A) The depletion of aircraft during the wars had the fighters re-commissioned B) The F-14 depicted was the F-14-ST21 (Super Tomcat) but the ones depicted didn't look any different from a standard F-14D's. The ST-21's had some fuselage modifications different from the standard tomcat. Personally, I preferred the Zero version of events. It struck me as more plausible than to develop and deploy a new conventional 4th generation navy fighter when so many resources were being directed to the Variable Fighter program. -

SDFM is the most successful series. They are STILL making VF-1's and Minmay figures! At the time M7 was a very successful series too for its day. Each generation has their moment in the sun it seems...- 2715 replies

ST-TOS was an adventure series in space, that used the genre to tackle sensitive social issues of the day. Things like racism, race equality, war, etc... Much like Gundam and Macross, it introduced innovative ideas to a genre and medium that were not seen before. Hence they created watershed moments in pop culture for their time. I believe one of the reasons why Gundam is so much more popular than Macross is that of market proliferation. There have been many more Gundam productions released in comparison to Macross and as such is much better known to the market. One can argue the merits of the Gundam productions in comparison, but there are more Gundam series, OVA's and movies and therefore the property is easier to recognize.
