Kazutaka Miyatake understood that a trans-atmospheric capital ship with too many apendages sticking out would be problematic on re-entry. All of his cap ships are combined units in ship mode. As cool as the Quarter looked, it also looked incredibly impractical for a re-entry vehicle and very expensive to produce considering how much effort it would take to reinforce all those individual components. The fixed wing VF-25 looks very much like a pre-cursor to the YF-24. SK very likely added the variable geometry wings as odes to the VF-1 and YF-19. I wonder if originally setting it on the Mac 11 fleet (An English speaking fleet if I recall correctly) would have been a nod to the Western Macross fans? -

So long as we don't get another mess that was the Macross Quarter cap ship, I'll be happy. I was missing Miyatake Kazutaka's logical touch on cap ships with the Quarter.. The elements were fine, but how they were slapped together reminded me of the Metal Siren from M2!. -
As line art the VA-3 looks fugly, but Agavecactus made it look stunning!

I still want to see a SW-XAI, just to complete the VF-Experimental series of fighters. Them move on to the more challenging designs.

DYRL, hands down. It always struck me as more realistic (as much as an anime can get anyway) compared to the TV paint schemes -

The simple challenge of creating a coherent and entertaining culling of the series down to 24 or 25 episodes would be interesting in itself. The editors choices would greatly impact the focus and pace of the show. From a purely experimental point of view, it would be fascinating to see what results. I've always maintained it was a 1 season show, shoe horned into two seasons.

To be fair to M7 (yes I know...), the series was a single season of plot stuffed into 2 seasons of series. To save on budget, recycled battles were shown, and like minded tricks to extend the episode count. If you cut out all the unnecessary scenes and episodes, you would have a boiled down plot that was very interesting. Clearly the record company was the senior partner in the sponsorship considering how much they flogged the same songs episode after episode. MF was clearly conscious of that and didn't make the same mistake. Basara was the wrong choice for protagonist. He had his niche in to fill in the story, but he never grew, never was in harms way in any believable way, so we came to not care too much about him as a character. He was a fixed point type character that everyone else played against. It is like having a Stone as your star and wondering why the lesser characters are given more appreciation by the fans.

They should have saved themselves a lot of headaches and just released these as 1/100 studio models of the fighters. The detail was AMAZING and make great display pieces for those who don't want transforming toys or build model kits, but love the VF fighter designs. I got the VF100- VF-25F & S limited edition static fighters with metalized paint and they are simply gorgeous as display models!
