  1. Yes and no. Frontier established that if you controlled a Queen, you could control the hive. I doubt it could be compared to the PD mind control over the PC and Zentradi of the Supervison or Varuata Armies. If I recall one of Sketchley's translations, the SA already existed. They were the forces that protected the R&D base from enemy attack, during the Civil War. It is likely they had a "mind" as the EVIL series were bio-weaponized Zentradi, IIRC.
  2. This is a pure speculation anyway as you state, we do not have enough background to determine exactly what threats they faced in their own dimensioin. However this is simply and exercise in exploring speculative poissibilities, We already know their "weaknesses" in our dimension, the need for Spiritia and emotion, to name a couiple.
  3. Why not? They ate whatever the SD Space equivalent of Spritia was. True, the series' focus was on J-Pop with mecha battles to justify it as a Macross title so serious exposition was limited to only half the episodes.. However, they were hardly invicible, some died and IIRC one was killed. Their power came from the SD Organs inside the EVIL Series bioweapons they possessed. Inside SD Space they could have been as malevolent as a guppy.
  4. One could argue the same about the Vajra, given enough time to adapt to their enemies.
  5. What about the Space Whales and the Vajra? The PD are essentially energy beings in SD Space and those are the only two space creatures we are aware of who regularly travel through Super Dimension Space. I wonder if they don't feed on PD like a Killer Whale feeds on small fish?
  6. I am curious as to what / who the fanbase would consider the natural enemies to the Proto Devlin would be? Not necessarily to those PD who possessed the EVIL series bioweapons.
  7. If you watch enough Anime you begin to notice that the term "Army" is rather a generic term for most militaries whether they be based on the ground or in space. So it is likley SPACY was originally a contraction of "Space Army", since it is consistent with the "Supervision (Inspection) Army" which is space based as well. Though SDF Macross is more of a hybrid of many different things based on the show writers' & Director's knowledge base. There are capital space ships governed by Naval officers with the ranks that come with it and pilots ranked more like Army officers rather than Navy. If SPACY were strictly governed by an Army or Airforce rank structure, the SDF-1 should have been commanded by a Colonel or Brigadier General, but we know it was not. There are also systemic differences between the Japanese military and other world militaries. The Japanese military is a civil service "job" and you can quit this job without serious legal consequence as opposed to other world militaries. Hence seeing some military characters in anime threatening to "quit". It the world actually did have a military space fleet, I am doubtful it would fall under any Air Force command structure, but likely a Naval Space Command structure utilizing the existing Naval rank system used by planetary based navies. After all, planetary airforces do not have flying aircraft carriers, destroyers, or frigates. Space flight as it exists today falls under the Air Force pervue as it makes sense. You are flying small, limited crewed vehicles through the atmosphere into space and back. A space based fleet would be well beyond that limited scope of activity.
  8. Pretty amazing stuff. You do realize there really aren't any decent 3D models of the Spacy capital ships from the Great Space War around right? Do you have any plans on putting together some detailed models of these ships?
  9. Why would Tatsunoko's name be removed from SDFM or DYRL DVD or BD's when they participated in the animation production? Tats owns the actual animation of the series and possibly part of the DYRL movie (that is a mess no one wants to tackle) internationally. This has been established since 2003. SN and BW own the IP rights to the show, its characters and materials and have "Authors Rights" which give them control over derivative works. HG bought up all the Trademarks for SDFM and even DYRL in the English and Spanish speaking world in 2006 IIRC when BW failed to challenge HG's annual trademark registration in the US as they always had. This is where the mess became a tangled legal spider web of who owns what and who can do what with that what.... ................................ The easy way to look at it is simply, Tatsunoko owns the international rights to the SDFM animation itself and the international merchandizing rights, but no right to make any more film or animation based on the show. HG by extension has similar rights by virtue of their agreements with Tatsunoko and their spurious TM ownership of a brand they have not legitimate claim to. Studio Nue and BigWest, own the IP rights, characters, designs, and all materials that went into making SDFM as well as "Author's Rights" which give them sole ability to make and profit from new Macross anime and films as they see fit. They don't own the animation rights to the SDF Macross show outside of Japan. So the remastered BD release of SDFM in Japan will never be released in the West by a Western distributor. You would have to import it directly from Japan.
  10. I am ambivalent about the label. The Macross is essentially a new ship, would it have a ripped label? However it does add a sense of realism. So I am torn...
  11. Being chased is one thing, but can they handle themselves when they are "caught"?
  12. I can see them causing a fuss, but I don't see much legal recourse for them. It is an international exhibition of Japanese culture. I am doubtful it will be affected by domestic copyright laws (dubiously secured aside). If that were the case, half of the exhibition would likely be left at home....
  13. I am grateful they didn't follow those designs. It would have reminded me of the Lucas Star Wars prequels...
  14. The AFOS was a bio-engineered sentry vehicle, able to function autonomously or with a pilot. I would suspect it was near the pinnacle of PC tech before the EVIL series were developed. If humanity were to encounter PC remnants I would expect they would see similar looking mecha piloted by PC pilots. I suspect it is also why the PD adapted mecha looked more like monsters rather than the human mecha they were derived from It was the appearance the PD were familiar with before they were imprisoned. I would like to see the Macross Galaxy return with all the dramatic subterfuge first introduced in Frontier. The Galaxy story thread was a plot device to induce the Vajra to attack the Frontier fleet, the source of one of the co-stars and co-villans, but only the Battle Galaxy was destroyed, not the Emigration Ship or much of its fleet. Their destruction was implied and reported but never confirmed. I feel there is still much more story to be revealed about that ship and those who orchestrated the events of Frontier. They do not seem to be the type to give up on their ambitions easily. It is doubtful Satellite will do a direct sequel of that story, but one can always hope.
  15. AMAZING WORK as always!
  16. Damn nice work! What is the insignia supposed to be instead of the UNS Kite?
  17. In my opinion, it would appear this notion of mind control could have been the basis for the PC Civil War. A war for which the PD were initially developed. In M7 we get a taste of fully functional PC tech (as the PD understood it anyway). Now take into account what the actual SA could do with walking, talking PC on board who are able to maintain those robust systems... I still believe the SA were / are a far more formidable foe than what we are given to understand so far. I would expect that a Zentradi vs SA battle would be strewn with millions of dead giants and thousands of destroyed Zentradi ships with the final victory coming from attacking an SA fleet with totally depleted resources, who were fool enough to stick around too long.
  18. True, Shanghai Dragon in the Genius Party anthology was pretty great.
  19. Makes me wonder why Kawamori didn't retire after 7 since it clearly has done everything, perhaps even split the atom....
  20. Wasn't the VF-5 supposed to be a cheap fighter for colony worlds? It I recall the VF-3000 + VF-9 were supposed to provide that Niche. Maybe a single engine version of that fighter? Just spit balling now...
  21. Maybe I'm just not that picky. So long as the Fighter and battroid modes look decent I am happy. The VF-9 for me is the epic fail. The transformation is so complex and unwieldly that it defies logic. Using such a system in a combat fighter and then allegedly adopting it for mass production, seems a bit fantastical for my tastes. I keep imagining hundreds of pilots losing their lives in mid transformation.
  22. "Back Kibble"?? The aircraft were pretty aerodynamic looking to me! With the exception of the Armored Pack which functioned much like an armored Gerwalk in flight, all the other aircraft did not have the mission packs in atmosphere. The Tornado pack from the movies would be the only exception I can recall and it had tilt jet thrusters to assist in it's flight..
  23. You are aware the VF-25 & 27 are based upon the YF-24 developed by Earth based NUN Spacy right? Why re-invent the wheel? There is a valid reason for the similar transformation systems. They are both based on the same VF airframe.
