1. Shouldn't that be a VF-19Kai from Mac 7?
2. Does anyone have hires scans of the logos. I've found ones on the net, but I was hoping to get a 32 or 48 bit scan of them from any of the 20th anniversary comemorative toys and items available. I know the Max and Millia customs of the 1/144 VF-1J toys have the logo on the boxes and even in the display box. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
3. "DVDFab" is also a decrypter. It can't be a US based software developer or it'd be shut down by now... I used it to remove the copy protection and Region coding from my R2 release and then reburned it to a Dual Layer DVD (I read somewhere that DVDDecrypter sometimes has issues and drops VOB files out of copies-possibly a new version of protection that came out after the site was closed). Then I followed Hurin's instructions and re-built the DVD with the new Subs.
4. I guess you would since I heard no such arguments coming from you...
5. I stand corrected on the rest, however writing treatments isn't "writing" the episode. Treatments are outlines that evolve and change as a series is written and as directors have "inspirations" during production. The series' episodes often only loosely resemble their treatments if at all after they are shot. Thus claiming he "wrote" every episode other than the ones he "actually" did pen, is misleading and erroneous. After 5 years SK would still be considered "new", however it would stand to reason that he be given a greater voice since the series was his idea. Yet as you may know the "director" has final say in anything that is shot, not the creator or treatment writer, so let's keep things in perspective.
6. He supervised it. Proof? He co-wrote it. Again...Proof? Yes, he was creator, production supervisor, mechanical designer, storyboard artist, and episode scriptwriter. He played the most roles of any of the staffers of Macross, which makes sense since he developed the original idea. 400161 Umm no, his "official" credits don't include "production supervisor" (the whole "wunderkind" myth doesn't happen in Japan), and he is credited (under a pseudonym) with being involved with writing the last six episodes. He played most of those roles because he was the one of the most junior members of the production team and thus one of the "bitches" of the office. He also directed the valkyrie animation (uncredited) as it was easier for him to direct it than explain how his planes worked.
7. With all respect, most Kawamori fans want to believe that. Let's keep in mind he was "just starting out" when SDF Macross came out (I'll have to check but I believe he was still in University at the time or a recent graduate.) and it is highly doubtful any junior person, no matter how talented, would be given much credence during a production. Maybe by the end of the series he'd earned enough dues to take on a larger role, but not at the beginning. The "wunderkind" getting the keys to the studio is mainly a North American invention, something nearly unheard of in Japan. There, they believe in mentorships and aprenticeships in most industries including animation. Did SK participate in the show's development? I'm sure he did, along with all the other staff during pre-production. It is extremely doubtful that the Director and story writers sat at his feet listening in great anticipation to the pearls of wisdom he would drop about the universe...
8. That's why Anchor Bay is the best choice. They acquired and released Macross Plus as well as Macross II, dispite any HG sabre rattling. If anyone could challenge and win such a show down it would be them. Especially now that HG appears to be cash strapped with all the money they've sunk into their new RT show and AB has all the profits from it's home video sales. ADV is not longert a viable choice as they've gotten into bed with HG just to be able to dub SDF Macross. Not to mention ADV doesn't have as deep pockets as Anchor Bay would. Hence, why I suggest all Macross fans go knocking on AB's door about future Macross R1 releases. The only other choice is Bandai North America.
9. Uhh... I wouldn't say any of this is accurate, considering Macross 7 and Zero have NEVER BEEN RELEASED in the US. How could you judge how well they are "loved" or "hated" when they've never even hit these shores? Where are your facts coming from? The average US anime fan hasn't seen these shows, and isn't necessarily all about searching out fansubs and/or bootlegs. Until official R1 releases of these come to light (:sigh:), I'm not sure I buy into any of this thinking. 399851 Well most US distributors base their licensing acquisitions on fan interest. They gauge that interest in different ways, some go so far as to see how popular a fansub is on torrent sites or how often it is subbed. Since Mac 7 really isn't a series that comes up often in their listings, I suspect there won't be an R1 release of the series any time soon. Macross Zero has a better chance in that respect, but when that will come over will be determined by how much Big West wants for the licensing fee. Since Anime distribution in North America is a niche market, the licensing fee has to be reasonable or the demand immense to justify that cost. I've already sent an e-mail to Anchor Bay (the Parent company of Manga Video) and encourage other fans to do the same to make them aware of the interest in seeing the Macross Zero title licensed for distribution in Region 1.
10. Actually they just can't spell... Not to mention that in true HG style they take an original work and turn it into something unrecognizable, instead of "creating" something of their own... I may not be a fan of the web comic, but I see no point in ridiculing anyone's work. Such things are prepetuated by those who truly have no self esteem...
11. According to Macross Compendium, Kawamori wrote the last episode of SDF Macross under the pen name Eiji Kurokawa. http://macross.anime.net//production/creat...hoji/index.html 399009 That's all fine and good, however, HE himself, has never claimed to have written SDF Macross in interviews. Why should he? Writing the final episode is an accomplishment, however it appears that he had the best idea as to how to end the series and the powers that be told him to go ahead and write it.
12. A rubber tingly thing? Ya just never know with these teenagers these days...
13. To the extent of a story board artist. In every interview I see from him he has never claimed to have written SDF Macross or been a part of that team. His biggest influence was with the Valk action sequences as he has said it was easier to for him to direct those sequences than explain how best to do it to someone else. He was after all a "new kid" and likely didn't carry a lot of weight on the team. That would explain a LOT when one compares what he's done on Mac Plus and Mac Zero compared to what was done in Mac 7. And yet he as never claimed to have written any part of SDF Macross.... Implications or no. The truth is, that many really don't know what his "vision" clearly is, as he has accepted Mac 7 as part of the franchise canon, which leaves many detractors of the series confused. IMO, Mac II with all it's flaws seems closer to the vision of the original and the directly involved Kawamori productions than Mac 7 was. In that it was an attempt at serious SF with a message. Essentially if his next directly involved Macross project continues in the vein of Mac Plus and Mac Zero, I suspect most fans will finally become comfortable that Mac 7 was not "his" vision of the franchise after all.
14. Kawamori is an innovator to be sure! I think his strengths are in the fields of: 1. Creator: Let's face it he can come up with some really interesting worlds. 2. Mecha Designer: VF-1 = 'Nuff said 3. Director: He has a very good feel for directing. Areas he would do well to collaborate on or leave to others: = Stories and writing He is a very talented man, but I think that a little bit of a metaphysical element to a story isn't bad, as it adds a bit of legendary / mystical feel (worked for Star Wars!). However, going to the extent of space monsters and messianic singers that he did with Macross 7 was too far IMHO. The thing is that SK created the premise and the universe, but didn't write the initial show. Therefore he wasn't involved in the initial "setting of the rules" in terms of the story of SDF Macross. So he tried to "change the rules" with Mac 7. Which is why the series is and may always be greeted with mixed opinions from the fan community. Most agree Macross Plus it the best Kawamori has done, after that opinions vary, often greatly.
15. Actually if I recall, the Macross simply overloaded it's barrier inside Bodolza's baseship and took it down from the inside out. You may be confusing DYRL with SDF Macross...
16. That much I will always give him credit for! Having the destinction of being the first to do something as remarkable as designing a credible variable vehicle will keep him regarded as a pioneer at the very least. Whether he is the best is a debate based on personal preferences, much like the debate over whether Mac 7 is worthy of a place in Macross canon or not....
17. Well it was superior story telling and animations style that got me into anime. SDF Macross (through the bastardized Robotech) is what got me "actively involved". SK is a talented designer, but his gundamizing of the Valks is getting a bit out of hand....
18. You are aware that by Mac 7 they abandoned the whole brainwave control program right? Max's blue VF-22 was manually controlled like any other fighter. Methinks we have an avid Gundam fan here.... Nope it had a pointed nose cone that became a sort of a jousting lance in Gerwalk and Battloid modes. When energized with a pinpoint barrier around it, it acted similar to the gundam laser swords in that it could spear and cut into the hulls of enemy vehicles, if I recall correctly.
19. PFFFT...Max dyes his hair to match his plane....IT'S IN THE COMPENDIUM!!!
20. Roy's hair in Mac Zero was regulation, although I'm sure it was getting close to the line...
21. Not to take anything away from your valid point, but this IS an anime show, not tactical wargames at the pentagon. In a typical furball of several hundred aircraft dog fighting, it is conceivable that the "aces" were not actually noticed during a desperate struggle just to survive the melee! Another thought to consider is that you describe typical human war doctrine, whereas the Zentreadi may exercise a different battle philosophy entirely. From what we've seen their major doctrine is to over run their enemies with superior numbers and firepower as opposed to engaging in a tactical battle. We also learn they are not very well versed in tactical fighting, even with Britai's unusual skill in that regard. Thus the notion of singling out a single "ace" was not something they tended to do in battle in favor of simply blasting the whole fleet to dust with a massive gun barrage with pod support. The Meltrandi fleets may have been accustomed to this style of warfare, but not the Zentran. Thus to the Zentran a fleets' colorful fighters are simply enemy fighters that will be destroyed in the end. The color schemes of the fighters didn't matter until Lap Lamiz and her fleet arrived and even then it appears that it was only she and her forces who paid enemy aces any sort of regard.
22. Well, it WAS a half-assed jury rig. That maybe so, but if they had the resources and the manpower to help build a "city" within the Macross, surely they could have made the Prometheus a bit more "spaceworthy". Well I'm sure just about everyone on these boards would agree that the QRau was the opitome of a badass space fighter!
23. Only the Kawamori minions... Some people choose to blindly accept anything Kawamori as gospel rather than objectively seeing a project for what it is. Many refuse to accept Macross II as part of the Macross continuity and they are entitled to their opinions. Others of us disown Mac 7 as part of the continuity as well. There are many opinions on the subject and fortunately most on these boards are respectful of differing opinions.
24. Wasn't that done in Mac 7 already??? Everything else was... Anyway, back on topic. SDFM: - I'd like to see the VF-1A's heads look more like the VF-0A. The asthetics are more appealing and the VF-0's sensor package looked much more comprehensive compared to the VF-1A. - I'd like to see Prometheus look like it was adapted for space, in that it would have enclosed elevators for the fighters. As it was it looked like it was business as usual but in space... - Actual space suits for the SDFM pilots (ala DYRL). - "Uniforms" (as in "the same"), unlike uniforms that looked like they were civilian suits designed by the same tailor, but individualized. - BDU's for the pilots and crew, similar to DYRL but especially for the bridge crew. Last time I checked, Naval officers don't wear their dress whites on general duty. - Redesign of the battle pods to something a bit more consistent with a race who is accustomed to space and planetary battles (the pods are poor examples of effective battle mecha - especially against their equally giant foe the SA). Mac II - Marduk changed to the Supervision army, which would require a redesign of their capital ships. - Greater utilizations of the AAB's by the VF-2SS (they should be miniature versions of the Ghost X-9). - VF-2JS and VF-2AS versions. - A gun pod or mounted guns on the AGA-1JF. - The Holographic cockpit as seen in Mac Plus on the VF-2 Valk IIs. - Re-design of the Gloria and re-naming to "Glory" or "Glorious". - Re-design of the Macross Cannon (does it really need to transform?). - Re-design of the Metal Siren. - Allow the full intended story to be filmed. Mac 7 - Too much to mention in this post...
25. Well considering the story was obviously truncated, I can see how you'd conclude that. However, Basara was multiple time more annoying that Hibiki ever was...but I digress...
