I would suggest that you keep any color coding off the helmet and leave it as white. This allows any Photoshoper to be able to color the helmet as they see fit. This way we are not "stuck" with a Roy, Hikaru, Max or Kakizaki color coded helmet. Even with a shiny surface it is easy to re-color so long as the base is white. Something to consider.

I respect your honesty and your work. I have no issues with you creating your website focusing on the designs you appreciate the most. My only point is that to avoid any mis-understandings, it may be prudent to make a brief statement that the site is a personal project, not necessarily a definitive resource for Macross Mecha. Something to consider...

Big West recognizes all the "Macross" productions, including Mac II (ala the "Official Macross Website" includes Macross II), Studio Nue doesn't recognize "Macross II". That is what I am refering to.

OK THAT is the weakest argument for Mac 7 to date...
-
Yeah I had the same issue with the sdf-1 movie link.

Kawamori may have done the mecha designs (however nothing appears to have been officially announced), however his involvement with the show is not likely at all. He is currently working on his own episode (short film) for studio 4°C's "Genius Party" anthology series. It is going to be called, "Space-Time Wars" and appears to have absolutely no references to Macross (which is not surprising considering how many other stories he must want to do). It is entirely possible that he was contracted early on in that show's production to do mecha designs and then he moved on to his own project.

Dude you don't happen to have higher res scans of that art do you? I'd love to get my hands on them. I've never found a complete listing like yours before...

Considering the content of the site, is it safe to assume it is a Macross Mecha site "according to Studio Nue" not "Big West"? You may wish to mention that on the front page... It doesn't appear to me that most Japanese fans seem to care about such a differentiation.

Well they could do a story about a race in hiding. Let's face it they are being hunted by both the Zentreadi and the SA, so they are not going to be too keen on showing their wereabouts to anyone. It is entirely possible that the Megaroad 1 stumbled upon an PC outpost and was not allowed to leave afterward.

Actually the 35mm print of DYRL will have a higher resolution than any of the new high def cameras according to a friend of mine in the film industry. Therefore as long as they have an original print they are capable of producing a High Def transfer. How much they clean it up is another matter.

Macross 7 is a J-pop kids show. If you keep it in context, it isn't "trash", it just very different from the rest of the series'. Keeping it in context also helps to appreciate it for what it is. It isn't Shakespear, but it has it's moments.

Yeah the highlighting on the nose area and underside implies a light source in front of the fighter which is not present in the background which is in fact, a cloudy morning, probably at early dawn...
-
Well it has been said that stylistically DYRL is what SK wanted for the universe. He continued that esthetic from that point on, including the brainiac head of Exedol...

Nice! Only the jets have the shadow on the wrong side. Look at the shadow on the van in the foreground to get an idea of where the sun is. Very cool nonetheless...
-
Yeah go Zentreadi instead...
-
There was, it was amusingly ironic considering at the time "The A-Team" was the big hit in prime time...
-
That is to be sure... I enjoy it at times, when he's on his game, he can be quite a formidable opponent. Too true... I have been considering watching M7 again, with the mindset of a kid so I can appreciate it for what it is.

If you were to get an Illustrator image file, you'd be able to resize it to whatever size you like without loosing any image quality. However, I've not been able to find an illustrator file of it yet...

Um the real one! The Zent fleet used their turret cannons to bombard the Earth no Buster Cannon was every seen, you are confusing DYRL with the series... Hardly. A few dozen emigration fleets are not going to "spread a pretty good bit" through the "universe" that number would have barely covered a sliver of our own galaxy! This doesn't include all the expeditions there were lost over the years, we only know of 2, but there could have been more and since Spacy never sent out SAR's to look for them, who knows what their fates were. Now we know the PC Republic spread out all over our own galaxy and that is HUGE in it's own right, so what Spacy has witnessed in the produced series' doesn't amount to much of what is really out there. Again, our galaxy alone is vast, and since most warring armies don't announce their whereabouts to their enemies, we are not privy to how many SA forces were actually in our sliver of the galaxy at the time of SDFM. Boredom in the ranks of an agressive fighting race between battles seems pretty reasonable to me, no other implications should be read into that. Your "implications" have about as much weight as my "speculations". Well let's analyse this argument. The SA were all over the galaxy and the PD had no idea where to begin looking or even if their army had survived (assuming they even cared as the impression I gleened from M7 was that they were essentially selfish beings). Since they already had a population to exploit, they had no need to even bother looking for an army that could have been extinct. Then there is the fold communications. Now everyone knows that in a hostile region all communications would be monitored. So in order for the PD to put out a "call to arms" to the SA (assuming they even cared they still existed) they would have to send a wide area broadcast using an ancient encryption that would likely have been broken by then, which in turn would alert any Zent fleet in the vicinity to attack them. In M7 we saw none of this, when they woke no one knew until the M7 fleet arrived. Again, these beings were selfish entities who only cared about themselves, why would they care about an army that were essentially their cannon fodder slaves? They released the Megaroad 13 population only because they no longer had any need for them. I got no impression that they had a sudden change of character, only that they were now self sustaining entities. Well I can see how a highly aggressive race bred for war would never fight amongst themselves in between battles, unless their enemies were on the decline... The Zents fought throughout their history on Earth, why would it be such a stretch to conclude it could happen between battles in space? It isn't like either side would announce their presence to the other or that they would be fighting constantly either. WWII was a series of battles over multiple fronts, not just one big one. HUH? What show were you claiming to watch? The legend of the Alus was there and there was mention of conquests over other worlds, but nothing about their origins. Well Keith I've learned that you tend to see what you want to see, so I won't even bother with this one as it's been discussed before...

The quality of the source print will determine how well the HD transfer would be. Since HG has never really invested much of anything into their anime shows, it is doubtful they even have a decent print of the series. The only reason the ADV release looks so good is because of the efforts of Animeigo. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't they use 16mm stock for TV animation? 35mm would be pretty expensive for a weekly show.

SpacyAce2012 you must realize by now that for Keith any correllation or similarity between Mac II (aka the "Blasphemy") and Kawamori (aka the "holy god") is simply and absolutely impossible. So trying to debate him on it will result in your own frustration... However, I agree that there is room for you speculation of factions within the SA. Personally I like to speculate that the SA considered the PD as their gods as part of their mental conditioning. Thus any war they fought would be a holy war, with all the enthusiasm that would bring. Then there is the very real probability that the SA were capable of building weaponry and even fashioning new more powerful weapons. After all they are composed of PC decendants as well as Zentreadi. In SDFM the Macross was a SA gunship, with buster canon technology that the Zentreadi did not seem to possess (in DYRL they did, but since SK hasn't revealed what was actual history, we don't know. All we know is he said the true story is somewhere in between the two). The PD also reinforce this idea with how they rebuilt the Megaroad 13 capital ships into their own designs, with their new army. I like to speculate that the SA are smaller in number than the Zentreadi, but with more powerful and innovative weaponry. Thus you have a situation of one side winning over the other through superior numbers and brute force or the other side winning by use of weaponry with devastating power, as opposed to some sort of massive capital ship slugging match which the Zents would almost always win. Such a notion of a capital ship slugfest doesn't support the idea that the SA were any real credible threat to the giants, and that isn't the case. Not to mention that if it has taken the Zentreadi war machine 1/2 a million years to "mop up" the SA, that isn't saying much about the Zentreadi armada's war record... EDIT: Amen brutha...

Well one must define "violence" in the 80's. The violence SpaceAce refers to was the type directed at characters, not in any general sense. GI Joe had massive amounts of violence, just never directed toward any of the characters. In terms of broadcast anime RT can claim to have aired a show with more mature themes than anything airing at the time. It also did expose a larger number of new fans because it was broadcast on syndicated TV. The biggest drive to the market was the home video releases and as already pointed out the pressure by kit builders to get their hands on the very cool Japanese anime kits. SpaceAce pointed out military personelle who were instrumental in this movement. Mostly the "old guard" are aware that US Manga Corps, was started by a group of soldiers shipping out fan subbed VHS tapes out of a base in Florida. The 90's is when the market really began to grow, particularly with the home video market. Now keep in mind that back then an anime tape would cost between $60.00 - $100.00 depending on the title, so many fans wouild get their fixes through comic shops and video stores that would stock the titles for rent. That is when US Renditions, US Manga Corps & Streamline Pictures were the heavy hitters of the day. Then DVD came along and the industry transformed into what we have today. The model market also matured in the 90's with the availability of the Japanese "garage kits" through distributors like" Right Stuff Int'l". The Toy business seems to be latest evolution in the Western anime market, With Bandai opening a branch office in North America, it brought it's considerable weight to bear and successfully convinced major retail chains to carry Gundam toys even before any Gundam shows were ever broadcast here (that's skill!). So you see RT was a drop in a very large bucket of a grass roots efforts to bring anime to North American shores and it took decades to accomplish.

That only establishes that the EVIL series were initially created there and ironically imprisoned there, not that the SA army was based there. It also leaves the open question as to where the ruins are of the initial PC development facility on the planet?? There is every reason to believe that the SA were still using the mind control technology provided to them by their PD overlords to control and ultimately draft new soldiers into their ranks. Thus if they were aware of the whereabouts of their "lords" they would have made every effort to free them and would have been persistent in this task. Yet in M7 we see neither Zents or SA in the Varuata system, which implies the the location was not widely known to either side. Not necesarily. SK doesn't own Macross he only created it and in no series to date has he ever completely fleshed out the modern Supervision Army. Thus we tend to "assume" they are some weak defensive force, yet in SDFM we are told they are a very active enemy, conducting campaigns all over the galaxy with their arch enemies the Zentreadi Armadas. I tend to believe that is why SK has never directly commented on Mac II, always claiming to have never seen it (which I seriously doubt is true). Even with the Marduk closely resembling the ancient SA, he never at any point suddenly changed their history. We have to remember many of the staff on Mac II worked on the original SDFM, so that influence was passed on to the new show, including all the back story written for the original series. It also may be the reason why he hasn't written a SA Macross story, as it would look too similar to Mac II in terms of what the SA is composed of, something I'm sure his pride would not permit him to allow.

I don't see how any of those examples prove Millia was a hypocondriac??? She got freaked out by catching a flu which I believe was established had never happened to her before, so she over reacted "a tad"... If anything Millia became even more overbearing and arrogant than when she was still under Lap Lamis' command. Max did loose his kahonies when it came to Millia, and only her. Mylene had her dad wrapped around her little finger as I suspect all her sisters did before her and particularly because she was the baby of the family. The reason they split was because apparently Max was a bit overbearing as the ace pilot of the military and eventually Millia got tired of him bossing her around and not being around for the kids. However you never get the impression that Max was anything like that at all during the M7 series.
