  1. Well the SA started out as Protoculture citizens which are micron sized, but the various "giant sized" sections in the Macross strongly suggest that giants were also among those conscripted into the Supervision Army. Though it is doubtful the Zents were in command....

It was either the "This is Animation Special: Macross Plus" or "This is Animation Select" Macross Plus Movie" book. I have both and I can't remember off the top of my head which one I scanned the picture from. I scanned it a month or two ago for someone else on these boards.
  3. Yeah makes you wonder if BigWest was one of the companies involved with these proceedings...
  4. Macek and HG totally missed a prime opportunity to become pioneers with anime. Instead of trying to tie 3 unrelated series' together with a weak storyline, they could have simply made Robotech a brand name anthology title that would have brought mecha based anime shows over from Japan under the RT banner. So long as there were anime shows to license and dub for Western audiences they would have fresh titles every season to present to the fans. The model and toy markets were already in place, they just needed companies to import them for sale. Had they done that, THEN they could claim to have "pioneered anime exposure" to pop culture in North America. However, instead they put together a show that lost it's momentum with the second series and thus lost many casual viewers. Everyone remembers watching the Macross chapter of the show, but not as many remember the Mospeada chapter, unless they were die hard fans.
  5. Really? I for one would like an actual reference to the "explicit banishment" personally. As far as I am aware, Kawamori has never actually officially commented on the show, using the reasoning that he's never saw it, thus cannot comment on something he hasn't seen. Besides zealous fans, I haven't seen any references to this effect. I am open to the idea, I just haven't seen any specific references from SK or Studio Nue as of yet. All that I know of as "official", is that Studio Nue considers it a "parallel universe" version of the series. Big West still embraces it as an official Macross series and Kawamori won't comment on it. Now the canon gestapo may make a case for it, but then again these same people would likely have argued that there were no variable fighters produced in the "canon" chronology before the release of the Macross Zero OVA series or that the PD didn't exist prior to the release of Macross 7 (since in both cases those elements were added to explain the series'). I do find it amusing that many here find greater solace in the official chronology than the actual creator of the show, who refuses to allow himself to be completely bound by it like the Star Trek franchise. Granted the contradictory elements in 2036 do make a legitimate case against it's story elements, however, with the absence of actual data, one can openly speculate that Komilla could have in fact joined Spacy and became a fighter pilot. To take the position that "official timeline is exclusive" is, in my opinion, an arrogant assumption made by fans. If one were to make arguments based on harmonization (or lack thereof) with the established timeline, that is another matter. Just because a thing isn't mentioned doesn't exclude it from a potential reality. I just don't understand why people feel an obsessive need to hold up chronologies like some sort of immutable gospel... Trekkies have to be the worst for this followed by Star Wars fans...

The bigger the better and a neutral backgroundm black, grey or blue...
  7. Well you, me and Kawamori agree... Hence why SK doesn't allow himself to be bound by continuity gestapos. If the back story needs to be changed to accomodate a current project, then so be it...
  8. Well I've always liked the idea that the Destroids were manned by Spacy Marines, since they are the naval ground pounders...
  9. A few OVA's about subplots withing the main story of SDFM is a pretty good idea. It's worked in several instances with Gundam. Well the explanation of using the Shneeblume design as the "actual" Valkyrie is the same explanation Studio Nue came up with for DYRL. It was a dramatic "TV Series" about the events of SW1. Not the actual events of what happened. Spacy disallowed them to use the actual design of the VF-1 in their production, so they made up their own... Actually if you simply update the designs of both ships that may be enough. Imagine how the SDF-1 would look with a Asuka II type carrier hanging off it's arm as opposed the the one from the series?
  10. Well within the Macross universe many story genres can be told, from thriller, romance, adventure, etc... The stories don't always have to be a war story, however with the exception of 2, all have been. The universe is vast enough that many types of stories can be done, with or without SK... I suspect SK would like someone else to carry the torch, as it would allow him to do the various stories he's had banging around in his head for years...
  11. Well in the Macross 2036 game, Komilla follows in her parent's footsteps and joins Spacy and does become a VF pilot. Emilia pulls a Basara and wanders around the galaxy playing her music in a customized Q-Rau.

  15. The first one looks like it could be a script book for DYRL, but that's simply a guess on my part.
  16. Nice scan of the back cover of the book. Did you intend it to be as dark as it is?
  17. Actually Basara "looked" out for Mylene far more than a "friend". When she was being chased by the Vampires, he was there for her. On many occasions he would look after her, look out for her. We never see him berating Roy or Viffidas over the passion in their music, we never see him fight with them over anything, yet he and Mylene constantly fought. If she was only regarded as a "friend" or "bandmate", I doubt they would have fought as much. Sivil was the first woman to actually garner Basara's active interest. That could be attributed to genuine attraction or just as easily a keen sense of curiosity. We know Sivil fell for him and he demonstrated some care for her, but such a thing could be explained as a "forbidden fruit" attraction that both knew wouldn't go anywhere. It also served as a second love triangle that harkens back the SDFM double triangle between Hikaru, Misa, Minmei and Kaifun. Not all people demonstrate affection in the same way. The fact that Basara had few social skills to begin with would also explain his inability to express himself to another outside of music. We saw with Emilia that he got along with her very well because they shared a passionate love of song. You got the sense of an attraction, but neither actually acted on it. So it is possible that "superman" simply didn't know how to express himself or express any sort of attraction to Mylene who essentially wore her heart on her sleeve, constantly. The Japanese are not known for being very demonstrative, emotionally and Basara was written like a classic hero. Strong, silent, determined and focused, emotions didn't really play too much into his "mission"
  18. The only issue I have thus far is in the explanation of the VF-1J "Command Colors" fighter. It is described as a fighter used by the CAG, but that honor is reserved for the VF-1S. I strongly suspect the VF-1S is also used by Wing Commanders, but Squadron leaders and flight leaders use the VF-1J as we saw throughout the series. As soon as Ichijo was given command of a flight, he was upgraded to a "1J". Roy appears to be a Wing Commander, not the CAG of the Macross, however, that in itself is debatable.
  19. BROTHER! I agree that the "Shneeblume" design actually fits in better with Kawamori's VF designs from Mac Plus onward and thus appears to be a much more reasonable basis for the VF-11 and VF-19 design aesthetics. Now I am still a fan of the original VF-1, however legally it's a bit of a hot potato considering Tatsunoko as well as the fact that all produced designs after it are much closer to modern aerodynamic convention unlike the original. Storywise, I would change the final battle with the Zentreadi rebels by making it more personal. With the confrontations going on at ground level with the love triangle, there would be combat confrontations all around them. Such as, in addition to Global and Kamjin's capital ship showdown, there'd be a Q-Rau vs VF-1J battle in the air between Lap Lamis and Millia, with Max leading the Skull squadron against the Zentreadi attackers (giving us a taste of his leadership abilities). The sequence with Global and Hayase meeting with the top military brass would have had more meat if the UN President was also present giving the bad news to the two of them. It would also give less of a sense of a military dictatorship to the proceedings. The scenes on post war Earth would be closer to the DYRL idea of searching for survivors around the ruins of the world's cities and actually finding some! Let's face it the gov would have put as many people into shelters as possible when they commited themselves to firing the grand cannon. I also really like the idea of the sunken city, with is a nod to the ancient Atlantis legend, and would have like to see that somehow folded into the story. I would also like to see an incorporation of "Ai Oboeteimasuka" of DYRL into the series. I prefer the idea that a love song of PC origin would have greater impact on the Zentreadi as opposed to an Earth based song. With the exception of a few very minor changes, like "uniforms" that ARE "UNI" (as in single) like Mac Zero did, the inclusion of BDU's for the bridge staff, modernizing the instrumentation, etc... I'd leave the bulk of the story as it is, since it aint broke, why fix it?
  20. Actually Big West commissioned and bank rolled Mac II. It was SK and Studio Nue who were not interested in the project, thus their input was not available. If Yamato gets Kawamori to approve their designs, then all they need is have Kouichi Ohata to approve the Macross II designs.... Yamato will make whatever will sell. They aren't loyal to Kawamori or Studio Nue, they are a toy company out to make money, simple as that. If Mac II variable fighter toys will make them money, they will produce them. It is what the market demands, not an anime studio.
  21. Tis true. Opposites do attract. The "interest" that Basara & Mylene showed toward each other was constantly repressed by both of them. Neither would admit to themselves that they were attracted to the other, never mind admit they cared for each other. the opposite of love is indifference and the be honest Mylene cared for Gamilin as a friend, but showed indiference toward him as a love interest. She often "hated" Basara, but love and hate are two sides of the same coin. You will be hard pressed to find hatred for a person who has no regard in your heart or mind. Therefore, Mylene would likely choose Basara if given the choice between the two. Now what kind of match that would make is up for debate.
  22. LOL. OK, Let's recap... Mylene is: = The youngest daughter of the fleet commander and the City 7 mayor... 'nuff said.
  23. Doh! My bad, I missed that when I first saw the site.
  24. I stand corrected. I just reviewed the episode and the Zents do indeed have buster cannon gun ships, but unlike DYRL "not all" have the cannons. If you look carefully you will note that only a certain type of gunship has the buster cannon, the rest of the ships are in formation only. It would appear that Bodolza never deployed the gunships with Breetai's or Lap Lamis's fleets, but brought them along with his own armada.
