It's more the idea that at the time of Pokemon and Sailor Moon it would have had a market, but anime fans are more sophisitcated now and are not going to sit through a J-pop kiddie show, when they can see GITS, Eureka 7, Ergo Proxy, etc... These "supposed 'Macross' fans" are indeed fans, just not Kawamori automoton minions who hang on every droplet of spit coming out of the man's mouth... Every creative person has produced crap SK is no exception... Some like the show, some don't, other's are on the fence and others really don't care either way, they just like what they like. Keith will find a very difficult time "proving" what an 'actual Macross' fan is on these boards as I doubt "his" definition would survive the debate by the many who do not subscribe to it. The time for Mac 7 has come and gone, dispite the very real probability of a weak return on investment for a heavily music reliant (in a foreign language no less) series that is 49 episodes long.

OK Keith Jr.... You'll find a lot of polarizations on this board from the Mac 7 haters to the Mac II haters, but from time to time you find a pocket of individuals who appreciate all the shows for what they are. I can appreciate Mac 7 as the J-Pop kiddie show that it is, but not much past that...

Yeah, it shows up at the waterline in the distance. You can see a curvature where there really shouldn't be one at that altitude.

Ah yes, another successful de-programming The animeigo subtitled release is the best and yes RT.com is selling a repackaged version of that set for $39.99. It may be difficult to get the original Animeigo set as it's out of print, so dispite the packaging, the HG release of the subtitled set is the next best thing to the original Animeigo set. ADV, essentially ruined a perfectly good opportunity to dub Macross by getting retrarded with the script and sound effects. 'nuff said

In addition to sketchley's point, it is entirely possible that the remaining crew compliment of the SDF-1 were aboard ARMD 1 & 2 which were to dock with the Macross in space.

The FX DYRL title is not longer available there. Click on the "more" link in the "Staff Review by Nozomu" section, it will take you to the page listing it is no longer available.

That and retaining that STUPID bubble canopy! SK drew both types, the Brainwave canopy and a regular conopy for Mac Plus, why the directory of Mac 7 went with a variation of the bubble canopy is beyond me!

Well I too asked before ordering and they sent me the old HK bootleg that's been kicking around forever (I can't remember who made it), When I confronted them with this they vehemently denied I was shipped anything but what they advertised, evnethough I knew what I had in my hand. Simply put they either are liars or really don't know the difference between the FX version and the regular bootleg. Bottom line, order at your own risk... These days unless you are sure about the source don't bother risking your money. You may get a DYRL DVD, but a quality copy like the FX bootleg version is a rare comodity indeed. The FX version has been out of print for over a year and it is doubtful any sellers actually have any. If you are determined and have a decent computer with a DL DVD Burner and are good at following instructions, get the Bandai release and follow Hurin's instructions on creating your own subtitled version from the original Japanese disc.

Freedom fighters are not often targeting civilian populations, they attack their enemy military. That's essentially my position as well. Blanket labelling of rebels, traitors, etc.. as "terrorists" confuses the meaning of the term and I've found that it is used far too frequently by the author's of the chronology.
-
Not really, just select the fighter and the text and then lighten the areas outside or inside the selected areas. The outlines of the images are very crisp against the background so PS won't have any real problem fiding the edges to select.

I hope you plan to make a grey scaled or colorless render available once this beauty is finished. That would make it easier for Photoshop users to color her whatever they wish. Whether it be a ship from Breetai's fleet or Lap Lamis' fleet... Very sweet!

No, I didn't mean that the names were the only differences. The comment you made was very general and the name you listed is what both books are called without the exceptions I mentioned. I was not referring the contents of the books, which are quite different indeed.

Oh please let's NOT do the tired Macross"terrorist" plot device... Kawamori used it like candy in the chronology before it was updated. The AUN was a terrorist organization, everything bad that happened was because of terrorists... How about groups and nations who "didn't agree" with the policies or approach the UNG was taking with regard to this threat? Disagreement with an established governement body, doesn't develop into terrorist activities, it develops into opposition, whether it be political opposition, military opposition or both... I prefer the Mac Zero idea of an organized alliance with their own army actually fighting battles for territorial control or strategic objectives. Granted Mac Zero was an incident that was classified and compartmentalized for 50 years in the chronology, but still it was organized armies that were fighting these engagements. If the VF-X2 antagonists were some organized rebellion, that would be different than a group of terrorists out to wipe out civilians to further their own agendas. Maybe the Japanese really don't (didn't) understand what a terrorist group actually does and what their methods are? It would explain a few things.

Hmmm, you clearly haven't seen Mac 7 yet...

An Excercise in the Hypothetical (A "What If?")
Zinjo replied to SpacyAce2012's topic in Movies and TV Series
With the revelation of the SV-51 in Macross Zero it is made clear where the earth was headed. It is conceivable that there would have been a global scism between two camps. The AUN and the UN (though I doubt the AUN would still call itself that), both armed with OTEC! It would only be a matter of time before the SV series were given nuclear engines. I would suspect that with bases on Mars and the Moon and the several satellite bases that at least half the battles would take place in space. With the UN in control of the SDF-1, it is most likely the AUN would make every effort to capture the SDF-2 on the moon to maintain a balance in power. Otherwise one shot from the Macross's buster cannon and the AUN space fleet is bye bye... Whether the factions would fracture into allied groups or a couple of Super Power Global Nations, is open ended. What is sure is that if the Hot war eventually goes cold, it would make the 20th Century cold war look like a picnic, because now it isn't global anymore, but rather system wide. Depending on how the final fall out is, the Sol system could be peppered with bases and colonies from both sides all over the system. It is a fertile field for stories that is for sure. -
Ok, now add the additional expense of shipping from Japan and any import duties and the prices will become fairly close. If a person uses a purchasing agent then there are additional costs of commisions, transfer fees, etc... Edit: Ah well they are out of stock anyway, so this discussion becomes a moot point now...

Here is a local retailer: http://www.animecornerstore.com/macmovdvd.html It may seem expensive, but you won't get a new copy for less, even Japan.

The FX version was the only R0 bootleg you could get of the remastered R2 Bandai release, but dispite all the fraudsters on e-bay (sundevil is the worst), it is out of print and most, if not all who say they have it don't! They have a picture of the FX version or the Bandai release, but never actually stock the dvds... If torrent sites don't have it, then you may have to get the R2 Bandai version and add the subtitles via Hurin's process, as I've never seen an FX version in over a year now. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=13965

The first death of Macross was an animated Kawamori. The VF-1D wipes him out when it crash landed into the street..

So how does this fact harmonize with the "updated" chronology explaining the PD and how the demise of the PC was due to the fact that the prohibitions put on the Zents regarding microns were removed during the PD war? That has always bugged me... Logically, there were no restrictions on attacking microns after the PD war, thus why would they suddenly have that restriction restored after several hundred millenia with the Macross (a known SA warship, containing possible micron SA personnel)? Granted they wanted the reaction weaponry, however they chased that little ship for months before Bodolza lost all patience and ordered the system wiped out.

They did it with the defunkt RT movie (AKA Megazone 23) as well as the second chapter "The Masters".
-
LOL, they both are:"This is Animation: Macross Plus", the differences in name are one is a "special" while the other is a "Select". Though I am thinking it was the movie book, because I don't recall scanning anything from the other.

I used to feel the same way until I saw the Kawamori fast packs he did for the VF-19 in MAc 7....~shudders~
