Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Zinjo replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Well there is one obvious media that everyone has overlooked. A NEW GAME! The Gundam franchise has already released a new game for the PS3, there is no reason why Big West wouldn't do the same... As for SK, I'd like to see him direct, design mecha and even collaborate on a new story outside his usual circle of firends. The best collaborations are by teams who have differing points of view. Such differing points of view tend to keep the story honest and fresh, because either writer has to "justify" their contribution to the story as opposed to a group of "yes men" agreeing with whatever one comes up with. I agree that his solo writing efforts within the Macross universe as of late have been a let down. Ironically outside of the universe he shows quite a bit of talent and uniqueness in his stories. -

All these "tests" of an arrogant dead race, have gotten quite boring IMO.... How about a REAL story for a change with real drama and tension that grips the audience? -
Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

Well considering only Victor has been specifically mentioned it is entirely possible they are putting together another Macross anniversary CD set and want to debut some new talent on the album. I'd be curious to find out if Mari Ijima, Akino Arai, Chie Kajiura, Yoshiki Fukuyama & Mika Kaneko have been approached to record on the project. Personally I'd like to see all these artists pick one or two original Macross songs and do their own rendition and arrangement of the song or even a few duets. Now THAT could be cool! -
You are aware this is a Super Dimension Fortress Macross forum right? RT doesn't get much love around here...

Well Kawamori isn't involved so all his minions on these boards won't be interested... -
Umm, WOW! I'm so impressed I'll say it backwards..WOW! Gorgeous work man!!! I'd suggest you go with a black top for the Prometheus as that is typically the color carrier decks are. Maybe use reference pics from the Asuka II from Mac Zero or even real world AC's to get an idea of the markings needed for the carrier deck. I'd also suggest shrinking the lettering on the sides of the ships to help give a better sense of scale. The SDF-1 bridge looks gorgeous, however I'd suggest reducing the amount of reflection off the surfaces to give a greater sense of the size there as well. A low mat sheen might work better and might bring out the subtle panelling detail as well. WOW!

If I had the cash, I'd do it out of spite! Not that I hate RT or HG so much, but more because I hate bullys and HG as been a bully to the Macross fans and importers for far too long. Yep, at least in the movie they did. The symbol is now a redesigned Mars Base insignia with what looks like the olympic rings on it for the REF logo. They didn't use Macek's SDF-3, but went with a more Mospeada styled design. Looks boxy as hell, but it's what they apparently wanted. It was kinda cool to have Chase Masterson in it, not only is she one hot cougar, but she can actually sing too!

Well in the 60s and 70s all popular music of the day was rock music and it was also pop music because there was no real distinctions or categories, with advent of labelization being "Disco" and there was no turning back after that. The 21st century has seen an obsessive compulsive need to categorize and compartmentalize everything, particulary music. So being a self professed music whore (I like what I like no matter what category it falls under), trying to distinguish between a popular rock song and a "pop" song (whatever that is supposed to be...) is irrelevant to me.

An Excercise in the Hypothetical (A "What If?")

I don't doubt the US would implode in that kind of an event... Fear and aggression would explode in every state. In a nation that is probably as well armed as any African civil war ridden country, the blood would probably flow down the streets, literally... -
Nice job! Very impressive...

I can't wait to see the finished ship! It is going to be soooo sexy!

Both camps are guilty of such polls JB... I haven't seen a truly objective poll question on the subject yet, and I'm sure most would just roll their eyes if yet another poll showed up... Well I suspect it isn't actully HG, but the fear of having to front the cash to put on a real legal challenge to HG's claims on everything Macross. With the Japanese court decisions and the lack of copyright defence on the Macross Plus and Macross II licensing, HG would be just as nervous going to court as any challenging distributor. Winning a court case costs lots of money that no one is willing to spend. In the new Shadow Chronicles no references to Macross is seen AT ALL. The original design for "Liberty Station" had the Macross kite all over it, but from what I saw in the new movie, all of those references were absent. Which is not surprising, since Mospeada is undisputedly owned by Tatsunoko and if HG wants to market it in Japan as a possible sequel to Mospeada, they can't have any Big West copyrighted material in it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As for the J-pop kiddie show of Macross 7, that is simply what it is. J-Pop is Japanese popular music and at the time of the show, Humming Bird's music was very popular! It is a kiddie show IMO since that is the demographic they were aiming for and they successfully acheived their goal, simple as that. It is unfortunate if some are offended by it, but it is what it is. The Mac II haters employ the same "demeaning adjectives" and dismissive statements in regards to that show. That is their opinion, fine. Sometimes I'm offended by it, but I chose to either ignore it or roll up my sleeves and debate their position. I don't expect to change their minds, I just intend to make my position heard. I am not one of those fans who will hold up a show higher than what it deserves. I prefer Mac II over Mac 7, however I have no illusions about what the faults of the show are. I like parts and elements of Mac 7, not all of it and it certainly doesn't even register as one of Kawamori's better works IMO. Some love it in it's entirety and that's fine, someone should I guess...

An Excercise in the Hypothetical (A "What If?")
Zinjo replied to SpacyAce2012's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well in the 10 years of the reconstruction of the Macross we get no such indication of this. In 10 years this religious abandonment would certainly have already occured by the time of the openning of SDFM, but no mention of it existed. No doubt some religions would see it as a sign of doom or punishment and others would adapt the reality of alien life into their religious doctrine. No where in any of the scriptures I've read is it stated that humanity is the only sentient life in the universe. We are the only sentient life on this planet and in this solar system. You'd be surprised at how resilient and adaptive a people's faiths can be, not all will simply throw their hands up and come to the same conclusions as you. You seem to be attributing the American military industrial complex on the Koreans and Japanese, which is very far from the reality. Particularly, the Japanese don't have a traditional military. In every sense it is a civil service job that one can be "fired" from, unlike traditional militaries around the world that have a rank and file, with a legislated minimum tour of duty. Or there'd be two armed camps, one with direct control over the A.S.S. and the other with designs on gaining control of that ship or at least it's technology. It could spark a war or at the very least a new cold war as you describe. Possibly, but not all nations run their economies like the U.S. or have the same lack of social progams either. There is a possibility of a larger gulf between the rich and the poor or the status quo is just as likley as well. Again, the world nations are not run like America, thus IMO what you describe may occur in the U.S., but not necessarily everywhere else. Any illegal activities would most likely revolve around the theft of OTEC equipment, research and engineering data directly gleened from the reverse engineering of the SDF-1. The biggest threats would be in space, particularly at Moon Base Apollo, where the SDF-2 was being built. Such a disparity had already ocurred in that many of the soldiers were lost during the UN Wars. Personally I suspect the reason why there were bridge bunnys on the SDF-1 was because it has been medically proven the women multitask better than men, thus they were best suited for the jobs. Well I doubt that you've experienced a female President, so your opinions are rather skewed on this particular topic. There is never any indication that Global was anything more than an Admiral/General of the Spacy forces. I assumed that the Mayor of Macross City was elected the first Unity Government president, of the post SW-1 Earth. There was no indication at all that the Macross civilians were under any sort of martial law. It isn't the "mindless stupidity" that would wipe out mankind, it is the avarice of men and corporations, the desires of some insecure nations to attempt to "control" others by force and economic means. It is the desire to control, horde and lord over others, technology that could benefit all. Morgan and Edison were the one's who shut Tessla down, because his inventions threatened their profit margins. GM was the first to build a viable working electric car that was able to travel at the same speeds as gas powered cars and yet the oil industry effectively shut the production down and had all the cars destroyed because it threatened their monopoly on automotive fuel. Such an event as the Macross crash would create a lot of international tensions, I have no doubt. Assuming things will unfold in one inflexible manner is a bit arrogant, considering different nations and cultures will react in a myriad of different ways to the event. -
I always thought the "CF" SV-51's were brown or copper (as is the tradition) and the lighting just changed the colors as it did for all the fighters.

Robotech had a soundtrack? I always thought it was drunk voice actors singing at a karaoke a bar...

It is a bit redundant isn't it...

The region coding idea was to make more money, but with piracy so prevalent there is a debate as to whether that is even feasable anymore. Many are arguing that the fastest way to kill piracy is to do a worldwide release at the same time with no region coding to maximize profits, but so far nothing new has been agreed upon.

The album of songs is what I was leaning towards in my post, albeit it wasn't very clear. I believe the key to this is what sketchley has already posted, which is essentially an ROI analysis. How popular "could" this series be in the show's targetted demographic in the Western market against how much will it cost to license the show and music along with the costs of dubbing, marketing and any potential challenge by HG regarding the name of the show (it may not be an issue, but as a distributor, they will have to factor such a thing in). Granted the show itself is designed to be seen once a week, but even Western fans are going to begin wondering how often anyone can hear "Planet Dance"? It is featured in what, the first 10 episodes exclusively?

To get a reasonable HD master they'd have to go back to the film stock as it has a higher resolution than HD.
-
Well it appears that Bandai Visual has stepped into the HD fray... Since they were the ones who released the DYRL Perfect edition, there is a very real possibility that they may give DYRL the HD treatment... We'll have to wait and see, but it is a positive step in that direction... The most interesting software announcement at the HD-DVD event was the revelation that Bandai Visual, in partnership with Memory-tech and Microsoft, has decided to begin releasing classic anime titles on the format using the VC-1 codec. That means you can expect great series like Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop in high-definition. It was unclear whether or not this support is exclusive to HD-DVD, but still it's very exciting news for anime fans. ~Digital Bits

I'd suggest it's achillies heel is it's heavy reliance on the music. It's one thing for anime fans to listen to a Japanese opening/ending theme and even a few songs peppered over the course of a series, but Mac 7 has a song and a battle EVERY episode. Often it is the same song sung over and over in the beginning. Translated lyrics recorded by the original musicians becomes necessary. Without translated lyrics, re-recorded by the artists, it doesn't have the same potential impact. Thus the expense of doing that for 49 episodes, weighed against the potential "mass appeal" of the series would make any distributor very reluctant.

It's a T-shirt aimed at RT fans, not Macross fans...

Maybe the website stock is different from the retail stock?

Very true, however the key to any successful series is timing, films and series that were hits back in their day would likely fall flat today. Story and production quality are also key, but the three need to combine to create a hit. The potential fanbase for Mac 7 is growing up and are not being replaced in the same numbers, thus the target demographic is shrinking. The benefit Naruto & Inu Yasha have is that they are long enough to "carry" their fanbases along with the series, whereas others are not so fortunate and to attract new kids to a series is getting more and more difficult.
