It's a possibility, but I am doubtful. As it is, the series looks like it could very well resurrect Macross in pop culture. It's a human drama against enigmatic foes set in space with killer music, precisely what SDFM was... The 3D animation is akin to Mac Zero, but dialed back a bit to mesh much better with the 2D animation. It probably helps a lot to have a portion of the series already in the can before the show's premier to maintain high production levels per episode... LOL no doubt! Like what Hideaki Anno did with the Evangelion Finale... "I'll give you an ending, but you won't like it... " -

~~~~~~~~ The VF-25 is the perfect mecha for Bandai to exploit though. Very gundam like with all the bolt on armor and weaponry. which is something that sells a lot of toys and model kit variants... -
This is a reboot dude. The events of 7 take place during the same era as Megaroad 01, and Frontier, though at a different time in the timeline. The opening clearly shows the events of DYRL, not SDFM as what happened during SW1. It changes what happened to the Earth after the war and when the emigration fleets left the planet to colonize the stars. This is far more than a situation of DYRL being "treated as history by those who weren't there".... The Earth was abandoned in this continuity, not rebuilt like the old continuity. One question does remain, "Did the events of Macross Plus happen in the MF continuity?" there is no Earth for Isamu and Guld to go to as it would have been long since abandoned by 2040... -
Graham check out the NUNS logo... It looks a LOT like a redressed version of the old AUN logo that was never used in SDFM! -
"Seiyan Subs" group has a down and dirty subbed version, though it isn't in HD quality as the Japanese only version. -
Loved the music very techno dance and the new singer is definitely a good choice. Her singing definitely reminded me of Mari's music from SDFM... -
I like the gap, in that it gives the fighter more V-TOL and meneuverability, I'm not so sure about how well it would work during planetfall though... Well it's official the logo has both the blue and the red "F". No doubt the logo colors will alternate between commercial breaks... BTW thanks Graham for the new scans... -
Got mine today....MY GAWD it's huge!! Wasn't expecting so much. What are the second two discs in the set? Haven't cracked open the plastic wrap from the discs yet... The books look like they contain all the line art from the Gold Book!! WOW!!!
Hmm, "Vajra" being a sankrit word definitely points into the direction of some more revelations about either the SA, the PC or both! The bio-mecha bears an interesting similarity to the Zentreadi Glaug with a top mounted DEW cannon... -
Well that last pic confirms that the bugs are actually some sort of bio-mecha, possibly similar to the AFOS... -
IIRC they started off as terrorists back in the 80's then over time evolved into an army by the time of Macross Zero. The history had been retconed to show that they were a "Military Organization" that first appeared on the scene in 2005 by destroying the Mars evacuation fleet with a comandeered space destroyer. There is an implication that Russia and Isreal were covertly involved with the AUN forces since they both jointly developed the SV-51 fighter (however I personally find Isreal's involvement suspect if one looks at the country's traditional political ties, but I didn't write the retcon...). Which nations were involved in supplying the AUN has not been formally revealed.
It is the worst kept secret that the term "contractors" used in conjunction with Iraq and / or the Blackwater organization is a euphemism for oil company paid "mercenaries". However I agree with Graham that the SMS will essentially be the equivalent to JSDF which is something very familiar to the Japanese people. Unlike standing armies around the world, it s not a traditional military. It is structured much more like a civil service branch rather than a military organization as most North American and European nations are accustomed to. Hence why I described that the SMS and Spacy could be Kawamori's commentary on the current Japanese political climate with the Diet considering changing the constitution to step away from the post-WWII position of defensive armed forces. Each "branch" could represent the different positions, one a defensive force the other more militaristic. Granted that may be a bit deep for a Mac 7 teenie bopper age group, but it hasn't been established what demographic is going to be targeted yet... If that is indeed SK's plan it could make the show quite compelling indeed... -
Good point. If the enemy already knows where you are, you are pretty much stuck with the situation as it is... Then the added experience of what the Mac 5 & 7 fleets faced and the success / failure of how they dealt with their threat. Carrying only internal missile ordinance really didn't serve those fleets very well in open battle. Maybe not so much Valk on Valk, but probably transforming fighter vs transforming enemy mecha... Mac Zero showed us how it should be done and Mac 7 showed us how it shouldn't... -
Agreed. Active stealth is different from passive stealth which uses the shape of the fighter and deflection to acheive it's small sensor signature. Just because active stealth is likely used, doesn't mean that a combination of internal and wing mounted ordinance isn't being used. In fact that is the smartest way to do it. It allows maximum payload of missiles while allowing for mini-missiles to be launched as reserve ordinance once all the external pods are depleted... -
Love the VF-9 fighter, hate the rest... The SW-XAII Schneegans would have made a better VF-9 IMHO....
