Well considering the Mac 5 fleet was wiped out except for a portion of its civilian population and the Battle 7 was nearly crippled by the Protodevlin encounter, I don't see how any military would become "cocky" over those pathetic results. It took a rock star to pull their collective bacons out of the fire, if you recall (of all of us Keith, I'd expect you to remember that vividly.. ). After such a military failure 11 years prior (I am referring to the year 2058, the 50th anniversary of the Mayan event), it is just as conceivable that any plans to extend the information blackout about the AFOS research results and the Mayan Island incident itself was abandonded to give fleet commanders an idea of what forces they may encounter as they approach the galactic core and the heartland of the Protoculture civilization. Sheryl is on a concert tour of the nearby Frontier fleet, I saw no indication there were plans to use her as any sort of defense... She is a valuable PR commodity on a visit from the Galaxy fleet. There was a mysterious concern over her safety, but no real indication as to why, even from her. If she is recognized as a potential anima spiritia then she'd have value, but that hasn't been revealed to us yet. It is a possibility, however "more likely" is debatable since it is just as much speculation as any other. Though baiting any potential hostile alien forces with 10 million people is pretty wreckless and callous even for the UNG... I'd expect to see several Macross Battle Fortresses in the fleet in that instance. We've only seen one. -

It's probably a random text that one of the production team grabbed from the web. They probably didn't expect anyone to really care about it in Japan... -

And your point would be??? LOL, that's one way to simplify the events for mental digestion... However, the Mayan Island incident took place over the month of September of 2008. Spacy had possession of the body of the AFOS for more than a week at least, most likely longer. All that time it was examined and probed and investigated along with the information that Ares's team already had about the Protoculture to that date. No specifics were ever mentioned to anyone outside the research group. So in all that time all these learned minds could manage to do was watch the AFOS leave???? Pretty sad research team, if that is to be believed. The classification of the whole incident seems to be the most prudent action for Spacy and the UNG to do. The public didn't need to know how well equipped the AUN army was or that they encountered a terrifically powerful enemy craft in the Pacific. Now if the classified information became available exactly 50 years after the incident in 2008, then why wouldn't officials in the UNG, including colony Presidents have access to the information? If they did, would it no also be prudent to take steps to prepare for any such encouter again, particularly with the near disasterous encounters that the Mac 5 & Mac 7 fleets had? Oh wait I already know your answer..."explains NOTHING".... I'm sorry you don't understand, but that doesn't dismiss my points. That too is a possibility... That hasn't been established. They were expecting something. "They" is a very non-descript word... -

As already stated DYRL better displayed that there were attitude thrusters on the wing tips in the VF-1. However the VF-25 uses it's wings (at least in the Armored Pack) to support the additional bolt on combat weaponry. I suspect those points at the front of the wing roots are the mounting pegs for the FAST pack equipment. They may not be DEWs as we once suspected. The City ship is the same class as the City 7, however it seems much more urbanly dense than City 7. The Island Ships also have cities, but are more agrarian with forests and lakes, etc... There is a Battlefortress docked at the front as Radd points out, it is harder to see because its colors match that of the City Ship, unlike the bold white and blue of the Battle 7. I got the same Mac II vibe. However the FAST packs reminded more of Gundam armor packs than Mac II. If you are refering to the Metal Siren, then I agree the Armor Pack is similar. -

The actual quote in question is this: Every statement is qualified as I've bolded. "At least 5 decades" means that after a minimum of 50 years it can be released, correct? In a speculative statement one would hope to believe that the board members have enough intelligence to recognize that all comments made within that type of statement to be speculative. If some start splitting hairs over the minutia of every word then they need to get a second hobby... The point of the statement is simply to explain a possible reason why the President would be expecting an alien attack. Pretty basic really. -

Granted this is the wrong thread for this discussion, but it appeared to me that NUNS was actually surprised the Ghosts were taken out by Jamming. Almost as if it was a form of jamming they hadn't anticipated before... Once would expect that any automated attack fighter deployed in combat would have sheilding against all known jamming signals... -

If that is indeed the case, then your friend should rip those scenes and show the rest of us. I am a bit skeptical it is legit personally... -

That does add a bit more clarity to the announcement. I've always wondered if the colony fleets were like travelling governerships. It may be possible that the reason why they retained the name UN (United Nations) was because each new colony was considered a "nation" world as opposed to a colony world. However I am curious as to why the UN or at least Spacy was reformed in the NUNS? As for Alto and the SMS, it is entirely possible that Micheal and Luca are "cadets" or "apprentices" in the SMS and qualified through school, yet Alto hasn't for some reason. Sketchley already pointed out that the "Highschool" is probably like a vocational highschool for pilots. -
A couple of Wallpapers I've been working on from the HD upload of Episode 1. They are in 1280x1024 resolution. I can reduce them upon request. I've a few more in the pipe and will upload when they are done. VF-25 with Armored Pack &The VF-171 in Launch position I did two of the VF-25 one with a bright Yellow SMS and one with a more golden SMS.

They are supositions based on available information and the new retcons, nothing more, I make no authoritative statements of any kind. If my posts are actually" read" instead of reacted to, it would be clear. I make a statement and Duke responds with replies akin to "no it isn't...", "you're wrong", "maybe maybe not", etc... no real substance to any counter position in the debate. It's like arguing with my 10 year old nephew, actually scratch that last, my nephew is much more eloquent (scary smart that boys is)... None of my statements can be deemed "definitive". We are speculating on what all this new information means and how it may or may not fit into current continuity, assuming this is going to be the originial continuity. Until we get more episodes to view and the story is fleshed out more, it's all speculation. Unfortunately some have taboos and the reaction to said taboos tend to slip through into their responses. I am open to anythng Kawmori throws at us. Hell I've come to appreciate Mac7 for what it is (that's saying a LOT). Thus far I am very intrigued by what we've seen of Frontier so far... -

That always irked me, destroids were OK "only" if they transformed... Granted all the Macross shows and games centered around the Stellar Navy aka UNS, however other branches were supposed to still exist. UN Marines, UN Air Force, etc... And concerned with what? How about his own wants and needs... sounds selfish to me... The term "Phoenix" for the Zero was first coined in Newtype USA, it was never the actual name of the Zero. IIRC, it was a board member who pointed out that the VF-0's name was "Zero", a nod to the Mitsubishi A6M Zero of WW2. With the VF-1 Valkyrie such an iconic aircraft to the future generations in the Macross universe, it is no surprise that the name has become a coloquial term to describe any variable fighter similar to how it is in Japanese pop culture. Very often kit manufacturers would put the name "Valkyrie" on their model kits so the consumer would know that it was a Macross kit. -

What proof do you have that it hasn't? Have we been reading the same thread or do you suffer from selective reading as well? I do recall several posters curious as to how the President could have known about an alien threat in the vicinity before they even attacked. It is reasonable to consider that he had access to the declassified reports from the AFOS investigations that may have tipped him off (there is no indication that such reports are public knowledge however). Now with a decent sub we also have the question why would the SMS train for a "Victor" contingency unless it was previously orderd by their commander who appears to be the Colonial president ("Victor" battle plan appears to be training for a threat like the one they encountered - to help things along... )? -

I expect there will be a marketing blitz between now and April. Interviews, lineart, art, etc.... This looks like a fairly expensive production so they will want to get as many eyes watching it as possible... -

Definitely makes a difference having an accomplished sub group doing the translation. The SMS seems like they are some sort of elite air wing that reports directly to the colonial president and outside the jurisdiction of NUNS, that explains their authority over the military pilots. They are equiped with the latest state of the art fighter the VF-25 that is not known to have been deployed yet. The fighter is clearly designed to use bolt on combat augmentation weaponry which explains why they were much more successful against the hammerheads and the red bio-mechas compared to the NUNS VF-171s with limited firepower. The president was expecting an alien encounter which may correlate back to what was found when UNS examined the AFOS near Mayan Island. 2059 is one year after the information gathered at Mayan Island became declassified, so it is conceivable that the Frontier president had an idea that they were entering alien space. The SMS seems to have trained for this in their "Victor" program, but it appears most of the pilots didn't expect to hear the "Victor" command coming from the president. The only thing special about Sheryl at this point in the story is that the Frontier leadership would consider it a galactic incident if anything were to happen to M-Galaxy's pop idol aboard the Frontier (side note: it appears Sheryl is a strawberry blonde, hence the shifting of hair color between pink and blonde). -

The Actual NUNS insignia: The ones shown on the uniform are very simplistic drawings probably due the time constraints... As for being way off base, my speculations as to why may be, however what has been officially presented is not. This certainly will push over some fans' altars, but Kawamori likes to do that it seems. He won't be constrained by his own continuity and this is no exception. It really doesn't matter what your subjective conclusions are, the historical sequence is what it is. The time ticker doesn't advance until "after" the Eden fleets launch, that is what has been presented to us whether we like it or not. I can't see Kawamori abandoning the original continuity in favor of a new one. However, by tossing in an enigmatic space time event in 1995 he allows himself an "out" to take the story in a different direction without orphaning the original timeline and it gives BigWest an "out" to market this Macross internationally without having to fight a foreign lawsuit over the ownership of the intellectual rights of SDFM (which they should anyway!). I strongly suspect that Sheryl and Ranka are going to be of keen interest to the aliens. The whole hair thing with Ranka is no accident, it appears like she has " dog ear flaps" under her hair and that she has to hide the fact when in mixed company. I too agree that the tattoo or birthmark on Sheryl's leg is of significance too. It is entirely possible that she is an Anima Spiritia and doesn't know it. -

Use the <Search> function at the top of the page and look for kresphy posts in from about August (I believe). It was described on a board with the Macross timeline at an anime convention in Japan earlier this year. One of the first official acknowledgements of the Macross 25th anniversary by BigWest. You'll have to find it yourself, I've looked it up twice for others already and that's plenty... -
