Keep in mind that when you mobilize a population with a single goal you can accomplish a lot in a short time. Prior to 1969 there was no such thing as a manned space mission to the moon. When the United States mobilized itself behind the idea of putting a man on the moon, it only took a decade to accomplish this. Imagine what would happen when you mobilize a "world" to do the same thing? -

I don't think it's a matter of capable pilots, but more of a matter of "green" pilots. Imagine a squadron of pilots reacting like Hikaru did when they first encountered the aliens. To fill the ranks for a fleet of 10 million, there will be quite a number of newb pilots in the NUNS ranks who've had little to no combat experience. I agree that I'd like to see a few CF pilots "improve", but it is anime after all, a kid's show, so we'll have to see. As for the "highschool crap" you have to realized that Mac 7 was a bigger hit compared to Macross Plus in Japan. SDFM was all about characters who hadn't hit 20 yet (Robowreck helped confuse that little tidbit of reality). All the "series" feature teenagers in lead roles and SK tends to do more adult stories in OVA's and movies, where there is a greater chance older audiences will rent and watch them. I give the man credit as Alto is a more plausible hero pilot than the 90's series hero was... He's been in flight training for at least a couple of years and from the dialogue appears to already be qualified to fly commercial aircraft. The show follows all the expected anime series conventions however has definitely stepped back to the dramatic that SDFM has become famous for. -

I disagree. The shape is far too different to be a VF-25, however we'll have to see if there is a new fighter or if this is the VF-25 with FAST packs, once the series gets rolling... -

Probably a NUNS fighter that hasn't been featured yet. It reminds me of a cross between the VF-14 and the SV-51.... -
There must be some sort of copy protection on the original image because it resized wonky and any layers I grabbed off the original image came over in grey scale. Re-did the 1280x1024 size to the correct proportions.

A couple of Edited wallpapers from the official MBS walls posted in another thread. I simply removed the MBS text and resized it to a second resolution: 1024x768

As usual, Graham comes through with the ultra res scans... Thank you sir! -
I always chuckle when I hear a statement like Mac II had nothing new... It was very different from SDFM and DYRL particularly in premise. However, I have to agree that comparatively, Dynamite was much more palatable to adult fans the Mac 7. Hell, even the "Sound Force" equipped Excalibur's bolt on sound pods were more plausible than Basara's super robot shoulder speakers... Though Mac 7 was a marketing success, it sold a LOT of albums! SDFM has universal appeal (probably not intentional, but it ended up that way), while SK made Plus like a foreign Western fillm (not so well recieved in Japan as opposed to here), and Mac 7 was all Asian. I wonder if Mac F is an attempt to bring both the old and new fanbases together? They need the teenagers in Japan, but they are well aware that most Macross fans in the west are adults. Who knows they may be trying to entice the closet adult Otaku in Japan into watching as well, since dramas are all the rage in Japan at the moment, particularly Korean ones...

Yeah me too. The nice thing is that it doesn't take much modification to turn it into a Battle 13!

This one is going to be interesting, SK doesn't so much do cross genre stories like the Alien franchise (horror, action, gore, etc...) did, but more along the lines of cross story genre in terms of cross media. SDFM was a TV series, DYRL was a movie, Mac Plus was a foreign film, Mac 7 was like Manga and Mac Zero is described as fantasy. Only he knows what media he will be emulating with the series...

That would make sense if the term "Culcha" means a positive exclamation, then de-culcha is the opposite, as in a negative exclamation. In Macross F it appears to have been in coloquial language long enough that it has reached a point where it can also be a play on words... We have similar words in English where they have been in use for so long that their original meanings are no longer used and often the opposite or a totally unrelated meaning has become ascribed as their meaning. Slang is a perfect example... Once upon a time "Bad" meant a negative, but in the 70's it's slang meaning became "good"...

How about downloading the file and then seeding it on a torrent site? Much easier these days. E-mule is going the way of the dodo I'm afraid... -
Well that's probably why Gundam is more popular than Macross in Japan as its full of drama, which is something the Japanese eat up. The most popular TV show in Japan last year was a Korean drama! LOL, yeah replace him with a self-righteous rock star amature pilot and that's sooo much better...

Like 'em all with Mac 7 sitting around the bottom of the pile, but that's because I was an adult when I saw it so I don't appreciate it as much as some might. Didn't much care for Kawamori's foray into a 49 episode fantasy manga series. Prefer Mac II over 7 as the premise is a bit more believable to me. All the shows have their individual flaws, but I prefer Mac over Gundam personally, with the exception of Char's Counter Attack (love that movie!). I suspect if I did get into the "G" franchise I'd be attracted to the UC stuff as well...

SAP is Mac II, they are still called FAST pack in the Macross universe. If I remember correctly the Squire Automated Attack Bits were part of the SAP pack, just not well featured in the Mac II anime... The Ghosts appear to be akin to leashed dogs of war. The "Great Experiment" in Mac Plus with an independent AI running the unit didn't turn out quite so well **Side Note: Walked into one of my frequent asian shops this weekend and to my delighted surprise the owner was running Episode 1 on his LCD TV behind the counter. we chatted about the new series as more and more patrons would find themselves caught up in the show... It looks amazing in 36" widescreen... -

Most likely fold communication like we've heard about in earlier series' . Any military info would be encrypted and on a secure frequency. -
YIKES!! I got mine and after the Fedex charges I just received it's gonna cost me a total $95.00 US, but I used Amazon Japan and it was a pre-order to boot (saved about 2000 yen). You got scammed in duty charges my friend!

The Blu-ray camp are seriously considering giving HD-DVD adopters "deals" of some sort to soften the blow of the end of the format war. Even Microsoft is beginning to back away from HDDVD and now talking about HD direct downloads to the Xbox360, which is where their bread an butter has always been. -
I think so, or they released the game to measure any renewed interest in the franchise. From what I heard the game was rather bland, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

Not quite. The VF-25 is the latest variable fighter to come out of development. Apparently it is so new, no one really knew it was being deployed yet. There is plenty of speculation whether it is the next front line fighter for New UN Spacy or just a new fighter designed for colonial defence (similar to the VF-5000). It does seem to mark a slow down in fighter development since the last new fighter we know of was the VF-22 back in 2045 (in the Macross 7 series) and some have speculated that Spacy is "refitting" existing designs such as the VF-17 and turning them into VF-171s for example. -

I stand corrected, the Macross 5 fleet did have 3 City ships, which begs the question, how many Battleships did they have? Since all city ships come with a battle section it also speaks to the power of the PD and their army to be able to wipe out 3 fortresses on Rax! As for the idea that the Macross 7 fleet was on some sort of communication mission, the prologue of the episode on Youtube explains they were just like every other fleet, looking for habitable planets. However if the Mac 5 fleet had 3 city ships that would make the Mac 7 fleet substantially smaller than usual. The Mac 25 Fortress is much smaller in relation to the Frontier City ship than the Mac 7 Battle Fortress was to City 7. The Battle 7 is about 1/5 the size of the City 7 while the Mac 25 looks to be about 1/10th the size of Frontier. It would make sense considering the number of people in the fleet and it would explain why the skyscrapers in Frontier don't reach through the dome. Just from rough measurement of the City 7 in TIAS: Macross 7 the City 7 ship appears to have been about 2000m tall from it's bottom to the top of the dome, while we know from ep 1 that the Frontier's ceiling is 2000m from the ground, making it much taller. We also should keep in mind that by 2050 there were at least a dozen colonized worlds and with them, millions of citizens each. It concievable that the 5 billion people of the former Earth had been replenished by then and that the super long distance fleets were composed of citizens from all over the UNG commonwealth, not necessarily one world...
