Macross Frontier Episode 10 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*

Very touching episode, lots of angst going around... Loved the Kawamori cameo, and I have to look at this article I found about the CGI team who worked on Mac Zero and see if any of them have a cameo in this episode. The whole "legend" line was nice forshadowing. The reluctant star was also another genuine touch. I believe Ozma knows more than he's told Ranka. Sheryl, Ranka and Brera are related either directly or indirectly. It is no coincidence that both Ranka, Brera and Sheryl have memory issues. Then there is the momment where she refers to Brera as Niichan before passing out during the attack, then she has no recollection of how she survived the attack and assumed Alto saved her. Now another point to my assertion that Sheryl, Brera and Ranka are siblings, is that Brera is blond like Sheryl, yet has the same colored eyes as Ranka. We are given a hint that Brera and Ranka are siblings by the fact that in a flashback moment she recognized him. This is going to get interesting... -

I tend to believe the VF-27 is an interceptor and anti-capship fighter. Not a meat and potatoes fighter the VF-25 is. -

Appearance is superficial evidence of relation. I've met sibliings that looked nothing alike. Then there is the other aspect of step-siblings all of the Nome lineage. -

Grandios speculation time (no kittens were harmed in the making of this guess): - Sheryl, Ranka and Brera are all siblings from the doomed expeditionary mission. - Ranka is the youngest, while Sheryl is the oldest. Sheryl doesn't remember her mother because the experience of the Vajra attack left her with amnesia. Ranka was sent off in an escape pod by her parents and Sheryl and Brera were next, except Brera was critically injured. Their parents stayed behind and died while Ozuma escorted Ranka's pod to safety and a Galaxy squad picked up Sheryl & Brera's. - Brera was taken to a hospital and never seen by Sheryl again. All were orphans who went different directions. Ranka joined Ozuma's family, Sheryl was an orphan aboard Galaxy and Brera became an "experiment" in cybernetics. - Brera knows more about their history than either Sheryl or Ranka, but he aint talking. - The expeditionary mission was sent to make contact with the Vajra and it all went wrong, however Galaxy (if there is indeed a cold war starting) is trying to gain access to their technology. The idea of siblings intersted in the same love interest is also something new to the Macross universe, so we'll see how things develop. -

To take a quote from the Duke Togo book of law... What pinpoint barrier? We only se a shield and there is nothing to indicate the VF-25 has a PBB.... -

Felt no need to repeat myself as others do.... You have elevated SK to a position of some sort of all mighty creator. A bit much for a talented designer/storyteller and now director. His designs are legendary, good and bad, however he isn't godlike. Ask any of those who don't like Zero or Mac 7. I thought we had a minimum age for these forums? -

I don't recall using quotes?? Keep in mind that SDFM required a large number of production staff and SK was NOT the general director or Supervising Director (like he has been recently). He didn't have the final say in how the show turned out, he was "Junior man" in the group, who created the universe (which was initially going to be a parody of giant robot shows), directed the variable fighter sequences and wrote the story outlines for the script writers. I take nothing away from his creativity, however he wasn't the top dog on SDFM, he even had to "share" directing credit for DYRL. His directorial debut (top creative dog) was on Mac Plus and that production wasn't even meant to be a Macross story when he wrote it. He had divorced himself from the franchise after DYRL to concentrate on other projects he had in mind. It wasn't until the only way he could get funding for his topgun fighter jock story was to turn it into a Macross story, and then BigWest would fund it. Why does this sound like a conversation with Keith over Mac 7? The only difference is that Keith can be reasonable... -

For the record, the VF-25 cockpit is so narrow, having a 360* view would be a waste of useful energy as the pilot wouldn't be able to use it anyway. The only thing that would come in handy is to have a holoview at his feet to be able to see any adversary coming up from the bottom. The VF-27 certainly has some advantages, redundant thrusters is one of them, however I agree with Marchmedowntothewoodshed, in that the two fighters were developed for different purposes. In a dogfight the VF-25 has the advantage, in an interceptor / anti-cap ship role the VF-27 does. The VF-27's virtual cockpit must require implants (all the VR stuff in Plus was inside Guld's head) to operate and is thus a bit of bleeding edge OTEC, whereas the VF-25 is more of a meat and potatoes fighter with bolt on mission packs to add to it's arsenal/abilities. -

I dunno, surviving SW1 is a pretty climactic ending for any show... -
The first three, Ranka, Klan and Sheryl are pretty amazing!! Particularly Ranka, down to the red contacts...
