  1. I can see where you can make a plausible argument regarding the aesthetics and there are precedents in MF where the Zentradi Naval uniforms were patterned after SDFM and the Marines were patterned after DYRL. Delta also showed an Altiria Island type colony ship as the method by which the PC would colonize worlds so that is no smoking gun either. However my focus (which apparently I muddled by the aesthetics argument) is really in regard to the DYRL song. This story point was exclusive to DYRL not SDFM and since Berger was recounting history and not pop culture, this is where the weight of the events of DYRL come into frame. Yes SK has stated that each production is an interpretation of actual historical events in universe, however there needs to be some hard coded anchors to the history to avoid a muddled mess with the very same spine of history that the media is supposed to rest upon. Sara did the same... You sound ambivalent on Basara....
  2. I dunno. This isn't the first time we've seen these tanks. The last time Freja and Mikumo were affected by a PC ruin they were both in similar tanks. I suspect it is filled with some sort of healing accelerant. Pfft, obviously...
  3. I don't share that view. SDFM's ownership is not exclusively Big West's internationally and I am sure BW is looking at that when Satellite is referencing older Macross shows. DYRL is not exactly in dispute with Tatsunoko as the international rights to the film are such a briar patch, no one is willing to spend the money to sort them out and lay a claim to any international rights. So it can still be considered BW property. Though it is highly doubtful BW would try to release it internationally for that reason and the fact that they failed to defend their trademarks to the Macross property outside of Japan (US, Canada, UK, South America, etc...) against Harmony Gold. IMHO they still can reclaim their trademarks if they wanted to and I would expect they have more money to do it than HG does to defend these erroneous claims made by the US licenser. Especially now that the Robotech show is waning in popularity despite Sony's interest in making a live action move. With SDFM unavailable to Sony (due to BW's unwillingness to partner with the Tatsunoko Studio and by extension HG who both hold the international rights to the "animation" of the show) to turn into a movie they have to rely on the Southern Cross and Mospeada series as sources for their film.
  4. Loved the episode from a universe building narrative, but have to agree that more effort could have been made to pre-load the instances so to make this an "Aha" episode where the hints are pulled together. Mikumo as an android? Perhaps she is the infusion of Sharon's AI into a clone body, which is why she never felt fear until she was in the ruins, a form of self preservation Sharon hadn't experienced since 2040. ~OR~ She is a clone or the resuscitated "Star Singer" of Windermerean legend, which would explain her flashbacks. So Lady M was around during the Great Space War... Hmmm, I want to think it would be Milia, but that would be too easy and we saw no evidence of this interest in M7. Mylene wasn't even born yet, so the only other "M's" that we know of at that time was Shammy Milliome or May. I considered Myung Fang Lone but she wasn't born yet. Perhaps the weaponizing of song by the PC is what sparked the civil war? The weapon has mind control properties and that would be a threat similar to the mind control properties of the hive mind of the Vajra. Using that tech to subdue the aggressiveness of the Zenradi and as a defense to any PD threats (which appeared to still be a thing at the time) does raise some interesting questions. The whole mind control idea of song definitely harkens back to the elements of Macross 2 and how the Mardook controlled their Zentradi soldiers. Epsilon Corp is certainly playing both sides of the conflict and may well be an ally to the Galaxy Emigration ship that has yet to be found. So the Var is a mutated V-type virus that adapted to humanoids and can be triggered by the ancient PC defensive song barrier. This is certainly a Roid discovery as he seems to have engineered the conditions to turn it into a mind control device. This episode further distances the official continuity from the 1982 SDFM series, showing the DYRL version of the Macross as the actual design for the ship rather than the TV version. It also gives greater prominence to the events depicted in DYRL as historical with the mention of the ancient PC song DYRL that was found on Altiria and never mentioned in SDFM.
  5. Money on Cassim, because we know he just wants to go home to his son, so the tragedy will be more profound.
  6. So does the Mayan legend of the Birdmen coincide with the AFOS Birdman or is it describing something earlier. I'd have to rewatch that episode to get a better context. That is one take on it. OR, they are both just like the rest of us...
  7. Is that really the case? I remember humanity was seeded around 10,000 years ago and then the records were lost during the Civil War (though reading the compendium's chronology page can give you a head ache ). Were the other races after that? It is possible that humanity could be the last of a PC seeding project (similar to the Earth's) with the Civil War raging and the real risk of the core worlds being destroyed as a result. If the Earth was a seeded world then perhaps humanity could be the closest cousins to pure bred PC.
  8. Yeah that has been a pet peeve of mine in Macross. Terrans are becoming the "chosen ones" as opposed to very clever "children" of the PC. I suspect the PC studied, admired, respected and even emulated the Vajra, but never successfully communicated with them like Ranka did. She appears to be an unexpected fluke who was able to bridge that gap. I am still not sure how M7 managed to solve the PD problem. Perhaps it is because i haven 't seen the show in so long, but teaching the PD to sing for themselves seems rather simplistic considering the PC had an Anima Spiritia army of sorts doing the same thing as Fire Bomber did. As for the Zentradi and humans integrating, it seems the PC "hoped" some of their children would be able to accomplish this. Humanity happened to be the first (though the price was pretty high). It would be nice to see humanity dealing with a Supervision Army fleet and find a little humility in the universe (though I like to believe the SA are post-mind controlled PC who are ardently trying to stay alive amidst the Zentradi genocide).
  9. As evaluation pilots, their opinions would certainly be sought and getting input from a Q-Rau ace on the new Q-Rhea is always a good idea.
  10. I am really looking forward to the subs, this episode seems like it was dedicated to universe building. At least with respect to song in the Macross universe.
  11. Shinsei developed the YF-24 and IIRC they cooperated with LAI on the '25. Max and Millia flying a VF-25 doesn't prove the Feds adopted the '25, only that Max and Millia were flying VF-25's in the novelization of the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if the '31 is a Federal fighter on loan to Xaos. The Delta squadron have modified versions.
  12. There's no reason to believe that LAI would not sell the designs to other fleets. I am skeptical that Federal forces would adopt the fighter as the mainline fighter since the Feds already had the YF-24 prototype and one could expect the next gen fighter, prior to the advent of the YF-30, to be based upon the YF-24 Evolution or perhaps a production version of the same. SK has already floated the idea that the emigration fleets do not get all the tech used in Federal equipment in Macross the Ride. The emigration fleets and colonies get "monkey model" design specs, perhaps as a result of the NUN decentralization. In Frontier, LAI took the monkey specs from NUNS and developed the VF-25, Galaxy did the same but developed the VF-27.
  13. Well if it is their brand of cap ship, I wouldn't be surprised. Are they not on the Epsilon hospital ship? If so, it's Epsilon's network not Xaos... It also seems that they also manufactured the SV-262 fighter for Windermere. WWII has perfect examples of non combatant nation's corporations selling to both sides during the War in Europe.
  14. In retrospect it is a little embarassing. The ME-262 is one of my favorite jets... What NUNS needs are competent pilots to provide effective fighter screens for their cap ships! You can argue the Windies have superior reflexes and reaction times compared to NUNS general service pilots, but damn! The knights went through the fighers like a hot knife through butter....
  15. Macross 2 followed that design regiment. They had dedicated space fighters (VF-2SS), Atmo Fighters (VF-2JA) and even dedicated Gerwalk fighters (I cannot recall the designator). The principle continuity moved away from Destroids (prolly because they weren't the cool mecha) and treated the Valks like all regiment weapons platforms (to it's detriment IMHO). It was only in M0 and MF were a few types of Destroid was re-introduced into the continuity. That being said, the trend since Zero is that SK is limiting the tactical uses for battroid and GERWALK combat in atmospheric engagements (as I feel he should). These limits are logical. In space all bets are off and the Valks can utilize all their transformation capabilities without any noticable disadvantage. As for Babylon 5, yes the Starfury was a great space fighter but they also introduced the Thunderbolt which was a tran-atmospheric fighter that was set to replace the Starfury.
  16. I was watching a history channel program about Nazi weapons of war and at one point they mentioned the ME-262 and I finally put it together. The SV-262 is a direct reference to the ME-262 jet the Germans developed near the end of WW2. It always struck me as a strange choice for a designator to the Windermeran fighter until that moment. SK and the writing team certainly did their homework on this series...
  17. Love the work, but the scratched instrument screen is too much. Any military would have that replaced on the aircraft immediately.
  18. He should start playing it like a guitar and singing... Making Mikumo even more angry
  19. Nice imagery. The white and black feathers really speaks for this piece.
